Dublin to Belfast by train will not be efficient in any reasonable timeframe due to line sharing. It probably requires a tunnel out of Dublin and new line along the M1 in the South. The missed opportunity was not to add a rail tunnel when the Dublin Port Tunnel was under construction.
One hundred and forty million pounds over budget, and no train lines, or space for private bus companies despite legal obligations to provide them, how much incompetence and illegality here?
@@robovac3557 is reading not your string point?? Trains (big things with wheels that run on rails? December (a month of the year that follows November) You need any more help??

This was looking like a massive puff piece so I was glad to see coverage at @5:56 of how it cost 190% of what we were told it would. And @13:30 with Translink challenged on the age of its bus and trains. Grand Central has a lot of empty space, very few seats, that's not fun for those across the disability spectrum. The passenger entry to the station off the main road is laid out to create a bottleneck. Going in feels like walking down a side alley. A lot of praise for Northern Ireland's transport network. Great if you want to get to Derry, Portrush or Dublin. No mention of harsh shortages of rail infrastructure any other direction. A journey to Enniskillen that takes 3 hours, with the last bus back to Belfast leaving at 6:30. I feel for people reliant on buses that distance arriving only to have to cross the enormous empty space of TranslinkWarehouse.com I tried to take a train today to one of those stations they announced would re-open at the start of September. Staff on Holywood and Lanyon Place gave me completely wrong directions for the connecting bus. It added an hour to my journey and my blood pressure soared. From a marketing standpoint Grand Central has been a damn failure with zero transparency on where it was and what was happening. Stormont would have been better allocating our money to connecting the province instead of a poncey new space making redundant the Gt Victoria St building with its real heritage. In Belfast alone the money could have went into night buses so women and vulnerable people (and anyone really) don't have to risk walking the streets when the gigs have finished and the buses have gone.
Have to agree with old man. Too big, so cold and soulless ! Maybe great for Paddington or Victoria with literally thousands of people so it would feel busy but not too crowded. But for the 100 or so passengers it’s going to look and feel empty and deserted as if it’s closed, and not a place to hang around in
Its wrong that' this eyesore means that the Boyne bridge will be torn down its been there for so long it deserves to be left alone, removing it wont improve the rubbish bus service in Belfast, don't run on time Sunday service is a joke,.a big over budget bus and train station wont make the services any better
It will make rail services better. Lanyon Place Station is too cramped and has only four platforms. The new station has eight platforms. The Enterprise will be moved into Grand Central Station much nearer the city centre than Lanyon Place is.
Monorail for public & goods, and for rural areas dedicated drivers who know the roads… …separate vehicles for separate demographics: like families… …All Island
Must be the world’s most expensive Greenhouse at £340 million pounds…. Everything was to be up and running late/end of Aug’24 and what do you know only buses currently operating with trains sometime in the future ‘maybe’…… 😢
Did it really need to be that big? We're not in London or Birmingham. Aye the tourists will think the place looks great until they actually go in to the city centre full of headcases and druggies 😅
Being originally from the Republic (Dublin) and living in Manchester, despite time and costs issues, I might very well be tempted to use alternative (non-flying) routes, such as trains and ferries via Scotland and ferries via Liverpool to use this station, getting the Enterprise train down to Dublin instead - this could even inspire improvements via the Liverpool and Holyhead corridors to Dublin, such as the (constantly shelved) proposals for a high-speed undersea rail tunnel from Holyhead to Dublin
What's the need for 8 train lines when the trains to Derry and Larne are at full line capacity at the lagan bridge, upgrading capacity at lagan bridge would be near impossible
The station was built with an expansion of the network in mind. Just look at the All ireland Rail Review. The Lagan Bridge isn't running at capacity, that's why the L'Derry line is getting a dual track upgrade. Because we now have these extra platforms the Enterprise service can transition to an hourly frequency.
@@cehaem2 dargan bridge and Lagan railway bridge between Yorkgate and lanyon place only has one line to serve Larne and Derry lines in both directions. It is the bottleneck for increasing frequency of trains on these line and it is currently running at max capacity at peak times
@@cormacgillen6553 Apparently it's not at max capacity since the L'Derry line will be upgraded to double track. Or do you think the planners forgot about that?
From the mid 1800s, the line from Belfast York Road to Ballymena was double track. Was converted to single track in the 1970s. Track lifted and a single track placed down the centre. Now they are planning to lift this and put the double track back???
Far to big and expensive half the size would of been big enough. It's the same size as king cross in London and hit can handle 75million per year belfast will never have to deal with that number. It's another big spender for belfast and let everyone else do without. That money would of opened loads of rural stations and upgrade and open the airport line aswell
Apparently it’s bigger than Kingscross. Will there be a departure area for the Enterprise similar to Connolly also a service to Cork. The ROI has the support of the EU re public transport we in N Ireland don’t thanks to Brexit.
I'd imagine there would be an app or some kind of facility for blind bus users. I understand why they wouldn't be able to have bus announcements though, maybe there should be more separation between say Goldline and other services and only have certain bus announcements in certain areas?
With speed limits being reduced on road networks throughout the island, I think this might encourage more people to consider using public transport. Thrilled with the new Transport Hub, which I will see this weekend, and looking forward to future exciting developments.
lol. Another person that fails to understand why people use cars. No it won’t. People use cars because they get them where they need to go otherwise they would have been using PT to start with. Slower speed limit will get people to use trains how? Bus to one station, train, then bus or walk or another train to destination. As against walk out door, get in car, drive to door at other end. Why do people not understand that PT and cars serve two completely different needs.
@@xr6ladIt could very well be in time that our governments may make the bold step of totally banning the use of private cars altogether and only allow motorways for freight and possibly passenger coaches, instead focusing on the building of new high speed railways, possibly even underground, using the pretext of climate change, in banning air travel altogether and having this as the exclusive preserve of the super-rich - they could even do this with ferries and convert them to passenger use only, not even for trucks, cars or freight - this could especially be the case for longer distance travel outside of 15 mins smart cities
340 million is the cost so far im sure it won't improve the rubbish bus service in Belfast, money could have been put to better use ,worst bus service in Europe, the time ive seen people rush to catch a bus and just as the reach it rude drivers pull away and Sunday service is a disgrace
Can we talk about the strange errors on the rail departure board? Adelaide = Windsor Lanyon Place = Belfast (just Belfast) York Street = Duncairn And worst of all: 2 Cultras?! The first one is supposed to be Marino. This will probably be fixed when the rail station opens but it's funny nonetheless.
I seen this in belfast when i seen it it was like a ghost town when it opened its too big for a small city like belfast the population is not their for it when i was their their was hardly anybody in it ghost town feel to it the scale of it is too big for such a very small city🙄
Was there today, it’s massive. Great to see lots of public realm improvements on footpaths and bike lanes around the area. Hopefully this kick starts a huge modal shift in belfast, more active travel and transit ❤
belfast is a city within the uk so why should irish lingo be shown on boards, people arrive in dublin everyday from poland, do they have polish destination signs??????
Usually if a part of the UK has an indigenous language in addition to English, then that language is also used on signs etc. Thus in Wales, for example bilingual signage is universal everywhere. Northern Ireland is an exception to normal UK practice in only showing English. In Scotland, bilingual signage isn’t universal, but it’s increasing all the time.
It’s the native language. English is not native to Belfast. But it’s not really a big issue to be honest, although Irish signage would be a great addition.
I’m not even from Fermanagh but the way they’re talking about “the costs not adding up” makes my blood boil, talking as if they’re a business. Is somewhere like Enniskillen going to generate the same money as Belfast? Obviously not, but the people there pay taxes just like people in Belfast and deserve a rail network nevertheless. Sick and tired of government being run more like a business rather than actually serving the public.
Reopening of the Western Rail Corridor would connect Connacht & Ulster by train. Reopening of the Athlone to Mullingar railway line would shorten train journey's from Mayo, Roscommon & Galway by train to Dublin and reopening Loughrea link & Connemara too would cut down on Traffic Jams in Galway.
Why have they left a small gap between the new wide bypass line around Dublin and the centrally-located lines to/from Cork, etc.? Could've had direct north-south trains without having to go through Dublin.
