Nintendo and Sony would be screwed if the AMD and Nvidia chose to step into the next gen console race and exclude those two from access to their hardware in order to compete lol.
What’s next Disney buys IGN ? Good lord. Digital foundry is one of the few reasons I open RU-vid. I’ll always support you guys no matter what. No respect towards IGN. They fell from grace long ago
I *LOVE* AI features!!!! I just wish Windows _CoPilot_ could spy on me EVEN HARDER! .....Do you guys think that Microsoft could have us use our social security numbers to login?
People hated EA's NBA Live and mocked EA for continuing to make the game, but when EA Stop and 2K became the only ones making the game, NBA 2K gradually declined and the game became a microtransaction hotbed, like EA's Madden and FIFA. Monopoly will bring the worst and greediness, as they knew the customer had no other choice. If Sony becomes the only console available, Sony will bring their greediness and nothing you can do.
it's early days still, but it's not out of the realm of possibility for consoles to move to ARM/RISC in the not-too-distant future. That could really drive growth for Windows-on-ARM gaming as a result. Maybe that would even lead to more games being ported to Android.
Windows with any Arm or x86 chip will never be as efficient as when HW is built specifically for the SW demands and features like in case of Apple Mx chips. Apple has huge advantage of the closed platform where it completely controls and function of the every single transistor in the chip and that level of efficiency and optimization can never be achieved with the PC which is open to many different chips and use cases. On the other Arm based chips can deliver even more efficiency AMD and Intel r still not able to provide with the legacy x86 cores, especially when they will be running most apps natively and not through the emulation/translation SW layer.
The X Elite/Plus looking amazing for casual or business use. But they are tiny 170-180mm2 4nm chips with tiny iGPUs. We'd have to wait for the Gen 2 to see if they will make a version with a big iGPU like the M3 Pro/Max or Strix/Strix Halo
Arm chips and SoCs in general with the unified memory will become more and more prevalent in the PC segment. U will be able to build your own PC like u do now for quite some time, however eventually u will only change one large MCM chip with some very fast low latency memory with the SRAM cache similar to the AMD's V-Cache and then u add additional modules of the latest RAM + memory for storage or u will go for holy grail of having single very fast non volatile memory which will serve u both as RAM and as a storage. Modularity on the desktop PC is why it is amazing and attractive so most likely u will see SoC offerings for your motherboards from the well known players Nvidia, Intel, AMD, Qualcomm and probably some more.
What about gaming? Well, not even Microsoft's own software packages work on the arm chips. There's a miriad of cases where even their own Office 364 software doesn't run on it.
Its a nice way to relive Britain's glory days vicariously through Apple and Qualcomm's commercial success. Rule Britannia, Britannia rules ARM arch 🎵🎵 Britons never never never will submit to RISC-V 🎵🎵
My 8gb Oneplus 9 plays all the ReRemakes at 30fps, GTA V hits 60+ sometimes, all the Fallout games (3/NV/4), Oblivion\Skyrim, Gothic 1\2, Kerbal Space Program all smooth to the point where you dont need to check fps (I do run a magisk module that underclocks my Snapdragon 888). As far as settings its all about 720p medium, ReRemakes need low but still 720p looks real good.
Guys, MS has already had Surface hardware with Qualcomm chips for many years. Sure, limited models and such but it layed the work for these new chips. Where the first version of 11 only emulated 32bit x86, then they started work on the rest. The first also didn't have native apps and those have been out for a while. One can say that W11 ARM is now very mature and they've put a lot of work into it. Qualcomm also has had top notch driver support for Android, so one can expect something like that for Windows.
You know, calling it 'Prism' after Microsoft was caught being part of the US Government's 'Prism' program is a bold move. But then again, a lot of people probably don't remember the Xbox One days anymore.
If youve got IGN as your paymasters then it massively dents your respectablity. I know IGN's far left agenda, I dont want my views generating money for a left wing outlet that is firmly Anti gamers in every gaming scenario where the general gaming public doesnt agree with their far left gaming opinions.
If Microsoft fails gamers, Linux-based operating systems may rise fill in the gap. Valve's Proton has proved that software emulation can work pretty well for us on the Steam Deck, and there are open source efforts similar to Prism/Rosetta for Linux. So if Windows stops working on DIY PCs, Linux may be our solution.
US laws regarding spying and data collection don't apply to AI. That is it's value. They have finally found a way to stop contracting that work out to criminals and now just have AI that you pay for do it for them. Brilliantly evil.
just finished the game on my series x its good but it randomly crashed 3 or 4 times during my 27hrs gameplay on performance mode one of crashes happened before i reach a meditation point to save my progress so yes its annoying because i had to repeat like 10min of gameplay again .. great game but it needs more fixes
I really don't get this "controversy". Videogames are for of media. The baseline requirement is player having some degree of control, interacting with the game. You can build on top of it whatever you want. Pong, Flight Simulator, a visual novel... also games like Hellblade 1 and 2. One of best games I ever played is Gris and it is extremely limited "platformer" - but artwork is amazing, narrative communicated only via visual design is moving. Some people may say that it could be animated movie, but in my opinion it would not work so well, because player controls the pacing. You can sink into atmosphere of the game taking your time to admire it and this is something movie cannot deliver. If Hellblade 2 is too little of a game, one may say that original Resident Evil 1 to 3 are not either. They have very limited gameplay with tank controls, basic combat, interruptions with FMVs taking control away from the player, most of thing you do in them is walking around looking for items and solving some light puzzles. And running away from danger. Yet, these are one of the most important games in horror genre. If you don’t like what Hellblade 2 is, that's fine. It may not be a game for you, but it definitely is a game and one that may click with other people. I would definitely pick this over any looter shooter, even though the latter genre gives player a much higher level of control and freedom, with potential to spend well over hundred of hours playing the game. Does it mean that Hellblade 2 is better than looter shooters? Definitely no. It just means that I prefer single-player, narrative driven games with beautifully crafted worlds and do not enjoy multiplayer games about chasing bigger numbers.
I think people don't understand what the rumour was saying lol. The "rumour" was that MS was making a console that could have it's parts upgraded by 3rd party companies.
These smaller aaa games cannot carry the xbox brand on their own. If Bethesda and Activision, make flops again ninja theory and smaller game devs will get the blame from Microsoft for the failure of Xbox here as Activision and Bethesda are too big to fail as Microsoft cannot afford to close them. That's just a fact of life.
......didn't Nvidia once do this already with the Shield devices with there own Arm SoC's, they did make there own cores with Denver cores........they can definitely do it again, it was pretty niche over a decade ago but not so much today....however, Windows is trash and they would need to make a custom OS with custom SDK's built for a Nvidia handheld, it would essentially be a console at that point with there own game store to sell the custom software build around the hardware. But I don't think that would kick off that well and Nintendo is already well established in doing this already and ppl would still buy a piece of hardware from them no matter how much more powerful a handheld would be from Nvidia. They would have to market and push really hard to do so and be a console competitor against Nintendo, but Nintendo has exclusive IP's that would keep ppl coming to them. At the end of the day Nvidia would just license there technology to others instead and make revenue from that.
Still most significant games are for Windows, their shield devices ran Android and was limited to either streaming or running Android games. New SoC for Windows (or Linux) that can run your Steam library in a laptop or handheld looks more enticing. Nvidia doesn't need to make the end devices, they just need to create good silicon, and the OEMs will make the devices.
@@eliadbu Well....I did say they will just license their technology and make revenue from that....meaning they will make SoC's to be used in devices from vendors and license tech for others to build around. I'm sure Samsung will be using their ARM CPU cores with Nvidia graphics tech with tensor for AI soon like others will be doing. I highly doubt MediaTek are the only ones. I'm sure Intel and AMD will do the same. AMD has partnered with Samsung with RDNA2 before in the past.
@@Banana_Knight I don't think Samsung is developing any ARM CPU core design anymore, they still have the exynos SoCs, but the use ARM cortex design. But they might switch to Nvidia as their GPU architecture is the most dominant design in the market, especially for efficiency, that is if Nvidia will be competitive enough.
I’ll never ever understand why people try to play AAA type games on laptops and tablets etc. like bro get a handheld or proper gaming pc. It doesn’t make any mf sense.
If you can play on handheld, why can't you play on a laptop? Z1 extreme is just a 7840u, if you already need to carry a laptop with you, why carry a handheld instead of gamepad? Yes handhelds have unique use cases, like playing in plane, but in most situations laptop with gamepad will be a least as good, or even better, due to larger screen.
@@godnamedtay If I have to carry laptop because of work or other reasons, I now not only need a controller but a whole handheld that is 3 times size of the controller. You know that you can't solve all of the tasks that you do on a laptops with a handheld. But laptop with gamepad can replace handheld almost always. I have a steam deck, I know what I am talking about. If you don't have a use case for a laptop, then you are free to buy a handheld, but lots of people need to carry a laptop around and if you already have it, why not game on it lot's of games works very well on laptops.
@@ninele7 imo ur an idiot if u do serious gaming on a “work” oriented laptop. Again, this makes no sense. Carry a handheld. Or wait until u get home. Not that complicated.
If XBOX goes this route, I think for the production, they would use the Nvidia model, where Microsoft makes a smaller quantity "Founders Edition" , and they license companies like ASUS, MSI, GigiByte, etc to build their versions. EDIT: well I wrote this idea, then continued the video, then DF basically said what I wrote here! So at least it validates my idea
Does the combination of Apple ARM and some non-zero slice of Microsoft being ARM actually begin to look attractive to game developers who might produce ARM-only games? How would one then play them on non ARM machines??
