Given that a lot of developers focus is on consoles if consoles do embrace this wholesale it will just mean that PC implementations will broadly improve as well I think.

Not true. This helps for games that are gpu limited. Cpu limited games it does not work. FFXVI is cpu limited as hell and is already using FSR, but can't hold 60fps at 720p.

I respect AMD for their open-ended tech, allowing everyone to be able to take advantage of new upscale/frame generation technology, I love Frame Generation personally and its really impressive to see it run on consoles as well. Hopefully this will mean that games push slightly more on quality modes with smoother frames.

This game is on game pass. Already played it on PC (fairly fun game) but might try on series x just to see how it runs. Pretty cool if consoles can now enjoy more games with the huge upside to frame gen

It does. But the biggest problem is still that recurring microstutter. Not sure if Respawn will ever address it.

Yes that is the plan. With PS5 PRO coming up late this year maybe, it will be even better because you can render 60fps natively on a more powerful console. Regardless. This will hopefully get rid of the 4K native locked 30fps "quality" modes that has been implemented in many AAA games today. They just need to ix the artifacts which I am sure they will

@@BigJugsRule92 Yes. FSR3 works better the higher base fps there is, it also minimizes the artifacts seen. So a PS5 Pro will have enough GPU power to render st least 60fps. But even the base PS5 today can actually render 60fps using AI upscaling like DLSS, then use FSR3 to double the frames enabling 120fps upscaled to 4k without image loss. So the devs need to update this. Also Sony is working on their own upscaling technology but we wont see it this year. But we will see more FSR3 supported games, just like we have on PC. And frankly speaking this is better than checkerboarding rendering Sony has been instructing developers to use on PS4 and PS5 lately. So its about time this comes to the consoles too. I am sick and tired of those 30fps locked AAA games when I know they can unlock it, AI upscale it which will give it more frames, then use FSR3 to double the frames. Of course this will not be native 4k but 1200,1440,1600p upscaled to 4k without noticing image quality loss but also having fps to 120 potentially will be a total game changer for consoles as it has been for PC users for the last years.

@@TheEdmaster87 thanks for the clarification!, it definitely helped wake my brain up this morning lol. I don’t really care about the ps5 pro and Sonys own upscaling tech, considering it’s a ways off. I just simply want this new tech to start rolling out to existing games, as well as ones scheduled to release this year. I’m ok with upscaled 4K. I already know it’s gonna look good in clarity with the higher fps, compared to how choppy a native 4K game looks that’s locked in 3”fps, which I think it’s a crime to only have that option. Etc- most Xbox games now.

If I'm not mistaken for thinking this, I can't wait until small ergonomic VR headsets reach a critical technical mass adoption point, because there's headroom on the table with eye tracking and foviated rendering. We're so focused on rendering the entire screen at max fidelity, when we could be rendering our direct line of sight with max fidelity and save all the periphery performance for frames or enhanced focal point detail. Consoles would benefit the most with fixed generational hardware capabilities. Just my limited understanding.. Thanks for reading.

Unlike VR headsets, TVs and monitors need to account for any number of viewers looking at any spot on the screen simultaneously. Especially for recorded videos going out to a wide audience.

Is this full 4K? Nope… and im ok with it. Alot of these slick ways that we’re getting higher resolutions (fsr, dlss, whatever else convincing upscaling out there) is making alot of these games on consoles look sharp enough in my opinion. I booted this game up on gamepass before and after that fsr3 update and immediately noticed the huge difference… getting much higher framerates with vrr enabled, along with the sharp image from such a low resolution… its really neat. I can see a lot of devs using these utilities in future games this generation… just hope they dont rely on it TOO MUCH

I imagine the problem with rendering at 30 and then frame-gen to 60 would be latency - but I sure wish we could get that for the cinematics in Immortals for those of us with 60 Hz displays. Having those /not/ run at 40 would be nice.

I thought framegen would be shit, but I've been using it quite a lot to compensate for my weak CPU and for me it's working great in terms of input latency, as long as the base framerate is at least 40-45 FPS. Of course it's not good for competitive FPS, but I play most games with a gamepad and it doesn't bother me nearly as much as I thought.

I really hope more games get this update or at the very least developers start utilizing this with future games more. In addition I hope they’re able to fix any lingering vrr issues and revise fr2 upscaling. It really looks noisy at times.

@@user-qg7oq6qw5c this isn’t a pc exclusive feature anymore. This IS the official amd fsr3 frame gen that is now available for console. Developers aren’t porting over a pc feature. It was announced months ago for console and this is just the first game to implement it. It isn’t like ascendant are some technical wizards that hacked a non compatible feature into their console versions of the game. It is supported on console the same way fsr2 is. It will take time before more games use it but if this studio can use it there are plenty others that will as well.

Probably just me, but I noticed latency on Series X with FG on, especially with V Sync enabled. I have a decent VRR display, so. It makes aiming more of a challenge. It is playable on Series X and once I got used to the floaty feeling, not so bad. John is right, the game really suffers from what feels like an extended tutorial and bland exposition at the beginning. It takes a good hour or so to really get going ... I think it would have been better scaled back, with tighter levels, just focused on combat. The more abstract sequences which look a lot like Control's astral levels are quite enjoyable.

Game is great, the visual upgrade is a huge improvement. However on ps5 Im getting frame freezes and pauses whenever enemies appear on screen. Similar to the freezes the game has on the Xbox during its cut scenes.

Checkerboarding only managed to look good because it was upscaling from high resolution ( ex 1800p) to 4k otherwise it's far more flawed than fsr and it is worse at lower resolution than fsr

PS4 Pro used checkerboarding where as the Xbox One X was often a native resolution of 1800p-2160p we were genuinely getting games running at or near 4K at medium to high settings on Xbox One X where as now we are getting high settings at 1080p-1440p on Series X and PS5

Is it just me who doesn’t tend to notice screen tearing? I'd always pick responsiveness over VRR. I've only ever managed to see screen tearing in RU-vid videos explaining what screen tearing is, still waiting to spot it in a game!

My tv has 120hz vrr but the console changes to 1440p to run it i dont see any difference from 4k or 1440p is fsr3 only for 4k 120fps.

Let’s say a game had a 40fps mode with no 60 fps mode. Could FSR3 potentially boost 40fps into the 50fps range in a separate performance mode and use that boosted frame rate of 50fps with VRR? If so that is some huge potential right there.

Personally on my LG c1 it's been a great experience with FSR 3. I wanna beg devs to add FSR 3 to all my games that are stuck at 60fps. What about elden ring or dragon dogma 2 AC Halo gears a plague tale

I suspect it would need to be at least 40fps minimum pretty consistently for FSR3 to be feasible. In Immortals I've noticed that there does appear to be some visible artifacting (could also be that I was actively seeking it out which might bias things) when the underlying framerate dips (cutscenes and particle heavy moments in particular). DD2 can barely hold 30 in its current state so FSR3 would probably make things worse. Though overall I was still super impressed with the implementation in Immortals.

Im already getting between 80-120 fps with vrr on starfield on series x. All they need to do is fix the fps in 2 of the cities in the game honestly

@@duppypixels Indoor areas can hit 100+ fps on Performance mode. Visuals mode not at all. It is mostly at or below 60 except for indoor areas reaching 70-80 fps. Frame Gen would help a lot.

I have my PC hooked up to the C3 and since I only have a 3060 T.I, I use the interporlation option on the TV to reach 120 hz. Then Upscale to 4K from 1440p using N.I.S It looks beautiful without any noticeable artifacts. It's nearly identical to native 4K 120hz Only downside is that TV won't allow any interporlation if the system is on PC mode. And if you turn on Gsync and VRR it'll automatically put into PC mode. I tried Gsync though and I wasnt impressed. The TV's interporlation looked way better.

So after that update in ps5, immortals cutscenes have no picture on cutscenes. There is sound but nothing else. And this is the only game that does this and it is not my cables or Oled.

I have Jedi survivor on both ps5 and series X and i played ps5 version first then just recently started on sx and the that version is SO MUCH MORE STABLE on Xbox. I can get way over 60fps in performance mode, and 60 in quality (for the most part with my ai upscaled TV) but the recent update makes survivor run nearly flawlessly, at least on my Xbox. The ps5 version isn't far behind either but the clear winner is Xbox for Jedi

Hmm probably not. First of all it's Rockstar, they'll want some margin for the inevitable PS6 enhanced version to make it feel like a big step. Plus, I think it has issues when trying to generate frames from 30fps targets. Works better 60 and upward.

Yeah it’s on PS5 also. That means AMD must have came up with a work around for the DX frame generation since PS5 doesn’t support DX. My guess is they or maybe Epic UE5 uses an api to mimic DX for Sonys machine. There is more than likely some downside for the ps5 because it doesn’t support DX in hardware but maybe only like 10% performance hit compared to PC and Xbox.

Switch2 meets the system requirements for FSR3. On the contrary, with the advent of FSR3.1, upscaling can use frame generation without changing DLSS. I can't use DLSS3 because of stupid Nvidia though.

Only the vsync part was tested on Xbox according to this video. VRR doesn't work when vsync is disabled on xbox. Please let the devs know so they can fix this bug.

The 10th generation of consoles ( or even the "pro" 9th gen) will focus entirely on the dependence of this kind of tech, and that is as good as it is bad. Don't get me wrong, when well implemented it does wonders and the artifacts are too minimal to even be noticed, and that is indeed a huge leap in technology and the better for us users. But at the same time, this allows devs to be "careless", to be too reliable in this tech that the base game will get too poorly optimized. We've seen this problem happen before this tech even existed, so do your really think this won't happen tenfold? I think it will be too "normal" to see a crappy graphics game, cartoonish, low-poly, poor lighting, etc, running like sh1t at 30fps then relying on an upscaler to put it in 60 when in reality it could run in 60 easily enough and then bumped up to 120.

it feels like 120fps… well cool, so anything above 60 feels like 120fps… I think you sound too optimistic. it's anoying and just one more graphics glitch potential, when they fuck up by using fsr3 framegen. all these crappy graphics by dlss / framegen are okay with cyberpunk 2077, because it could be imagined as a glitch in this cyberman I play there, but with any other game it's well… without a proper refund policy gamemakers will continue to fuck up

@@ottomaticallyawesome Over 20 years ago I was playing on PC on a View Sonic A70 with a resolution of 1280x1024 and games looked crystal clear on it some games on consoles these days are dropping below that resolution and are using blurry textures and effects that make it hard to see we were genuinely getting a sharper and clearer image over 20 years ago

Why wouldnt it work? You said it runs 40-60 fps without FG. This is the perfect use case for it. If you're strictly saying it wouldnt work on a playability standpoint, you're using a controller. @@Jaap-Relou You facepalm as if you just outsmarted Sony's engineers with no effort. You simply lack knowledge. The biggest bottleneck by far is the GPU. It would be great if you could upgrade both, but if you had to choose one, it absolutely makes no sense to upgrade the CPU over the GPU. And then there's backwards compatibility. The PS5 is using a custom Zen 2 chip. The only way to guarantee 100% backwards compatibility, is to use the same chip design but allow for higher clocks. However, the chip is running on 6 nm, so clocking it much higher, is not really possible. Adding more CPU cores would create thermal issues and not all games are programmed to take advantage of more CPU cores. However, it's very easy to make a game take better advantage of a faster GPU. Combined with better upscaling, I suspect all games will look 4K-ish with very little artifacts.
