Hi Rafal! Good to see that you are happy with your "new" bike and that the KTM is a worthy successor for your former 701. Have fun with it and stay safe!
I liked your summary...feel the same way. The bike is SO much more capable than I am. It really inspires confidence when you come up on something that's a little more challenging and this thing just glides right through it. Would be interested to hear more about your 2-up riding on it though....seems a little "tight" for two. (Great video!)
Thank you very mich Milwriter, it was a pleasure to read your comment. In regards to riding with a passenger - I have two teenagers at home, that sometimes hop on my bike. No long distance trip together yet, but I think about weekend camping get away with one of my kids. If that will finally happen, I'll make sure to share reflections afterwards. Best!
Nobody I know XO with one of these bikes runs the service out to 15000, most do it at 7500 kms. Even my dealer suggested it was way too long at 15000 kms
even when you are riding on highways for few hours? or you do not ride highways for long distances? For me cruise control is a feature I would not buy an adventure bike without. Cheers!
@@CykloGamonie very dangerous! Often people put hands somewhere else when using CC! I was doing 600km per day in last trip never had a problem w wrist. Not using CC
@@michsky46 There is no point in delving further into whether it is worth having or not having Cruise Control. But personally I like it and use it a lot bot on highway and in slow steady traffic ;)
I would also suggest headset bearing. KTM is not using the strongest bearing type. Not a big problem but requires attention now and then. I had to replace mine after 24k. It's great bike, happy for you.
@@CykloGamonie I noticed that clunk when my 890Adv R had only 400 miles . At 500 miles the bike was not stable on the motorway abowe 70 mph . After inspection I found loose steering damper ( 2 bolts connecting to the frame were loose ) and of course additional loose headstock bearings . A bit too early for my liking, but after eliminating all those loose ...everything works as it should again ;)
Pozdro!
I might be late into the conversation… but absolutely keep the loudest exhaust you are allowed to have by law!!! Loud = more presence while riding near cars!! Stay safe my man, i also dont like being loud, but when i see cars pulling away from me because of the loud exhaust, i think its worth it
Thanks for the tips! Yes. 701 is long gone, now I am on 890AdvR with stock exhaust that is the most quite exhaust I think I ever had ;) All the best from Poland!
Hey Jacek, thank you for your comment and yes, I've been quite busy with work recently, but I plan to shoot a video after almost a year and 10k km with 890AdvR. Please stay tuned :) Pozdro!
@@CykloGamonie nice! Thanks for reply - if you can, please include info about reliability! There are some bad legends about 790, but what about 890? Pozdr👋
Thank you for the comment. Fun fact: after another 6 months and a few longer trips on my 701, I sold it and bought 890AdvR... Life's funny that way, I guess ;)
'You have reached your intermediate destination' slyszysz 10 razy, sekunda po sekundzie. Komunikat by skrecic w prawo i konynuowac przez.... ZERO metrow i skrecic w prawo. Bardzo czesto brak informacji o koniecznosci zmiany kierunku. No dobrze, mozna to wyłaczyc. Ale wizualna nawigacja jest tak samo wspaniala. Ekran ciagle rotuje to w prawo, to w lewo, to sie oddala to przybliza.... jadac caly czas prosto.
Jakby poprawili User Interface, to byłaby dokonała. Pozdro!
BMW has the best motorcycle TFT in the world. It has its own interface that is absolutely readable and that is connected to the application. Incomparable to cheap Chinese and other screens that have everything, but you can't see anything while driving. Anyone who doesn't understand that should get away from BMW. There are choices half the price with Aliexpress type components.
I respect your opinion. I have sold my F850GS long time ago, so I do not have fresh experience with how their TFTs and software work now, after updates. My memories from 2018 contain a lot of software bugs and connectivity issues, lack of compatibility with non-BMW devices (like Cardo PalkTalk unit). It was a miserable user experience and I hope they have fixed it now. Cheers!
Hi ! I first downloaded the free version of the program Osmand, and then bought the paid version of the program for a month (Osmand Pro) and the sound does not work on Iphone 12 pro, when I already entered the route and navigation is in progress, the sound sign is turned on, but the smartphone does not make any sounds ! Please help me how to set up or find the sound. Thanks a lot !
Hey mate and thank yo for your question. Unfortunately I have no iPhone near me and I have no idea how to help you. I would search through Options of the app, with focus on Navigation options. On Android enabling audio clues for navigating in OsmAnd is very simple and easily accessible. Sorry I was not helpful... All the best!
Tried several years. Was crap, is crap, will be crap in all future. They don't understand that the software should do what the user needs, not the user should do what the software wants. Got back to "Here" and "Simple OSM Viewer".
I agree that OsmAnd+ has a lot of room for improvement in regards to user friendly app experience, yet I also have a lot of respect as this is being developed by contributors / crowdsourcing and delivers free offline navigation along gpx tracks (and that is my key need when traveling). I haven't used Here Maps for some time, but as far as I remember that was not available there. So I took some time to understand how OsmAnd works and now it is not such an issue as it used to be. Cheers!
@@CykloGamonie Info: "Here we go", former Nokia, was restricted to the Nokia smartphone many years ago. It has been available for free since many years now. Car industry are using it for their built-in navigation and for this purpose, they finance it, free for the user. Years ago I found "Here" only useful for cars. They did not show the small roads, landscapes and interesting details, neither small roads if there were fast ones available, so drivers could get an unclustered view. Since then, they have taken a lot of steps to include bicycles and walkers. They never arrived at the wealth of details of OSM maps. This is the reason why I installed the "Simple OSM viewer". No navigation, it does nothing except start within a few seconds and show you on the detailed OSM map where you are at the moment. If you navigate elsewhere on the touchscreen, it shows you the approximate distance as the crow flies. And yes, I have taken a lot of times to understand how Osmand works. Too much time. It was not worth the trouble. I changed to locusmaps but in the end, I decided it was too much trouble if I have Here as well as Google Maps on the smartphone for free.
This is very helpful info. You explain things systematically which makes it easy to understand. So many content creators just turn on the camera and start rambling. I appreciate your very thoughtful approach. Happy motorcycling to you in Poland from Ohio, USA!
Thank for this useful video. APPRECIATE YOUR STYLE so I abo your channel. The Osmand features sound pretty amazing. Got 3 Qs: 1. Do you have experience with other Nav Apps and if so, would you pls be so kind as to flash the cons of these? 2. Does Osmand work with tracks and maps on a mem card? 3. The free version of the App appears to run slow when zooming in and out loading the map pieces... Oops 4 Qs... might sound silly, but 4. Can you plan new routes offline, provided you downloaded the relevant maps? Thanks and cheers Gaucho fom Germany
Gaucho, first of all thank you for your kind comment and added subscription. This channel has been in hiatus for a while as I was too busy with everyday life, but I plan to bring some more content soon :) regarding your questions: 1. If I am able to use mobile data transfer and I do not need to follow gpx track, Google Maps is my main choice. And yes, there are other apps like Locus or Maps.me, but I have used those for ages. 2. I believe OsmAnd+ will be able to read gpx tracks from external memory card, not sure about downloading and saving them on external memory. I would only suggest to look into options. 3. It probably is related to phone CPU/RAM. It works fine (smooth) on my Pixel 3 (quite old phone already). 4. in regards to planning on desktop - I am using gpx.studio to do that. It is just much easier than working on a mobile device. All the best from Poland :)
Instead of paying the price of another set of pegs why didn't you just look for pointed pins for your Rade Garage footpegs (or even grind the existing ones with a Dremel tool)? Seems like a waste of money imo.
Right, this may look like a waste of money, but I have sold Rade Garage footpegs and new set of KTM Racing was just about the same kind of money. So instead of destroying the Rade Garage with a grinder, I preferred to change the footpegs to ones I am now fully satisfied with :)
@@CykloGamonie Ok, makes more sense now but you wouldn't destroy anything with the grinder. I was referring to the threaded pins. You could try just sharpen those.
it seems to me I must super ultra gentle with my throttle then ;) but jokes aside, mine after 11K still were quite ok to ride and I have not idea why it lasted so long. Thank you for the comment! cheers
a fun fact: after selling 701 and getting 890AdvR, almost immidiately I bought another bike - CRF250L, just to have a lightweight bike to play offroad. I put Michelin Tracker tires on it, changes the springs to HyperPro and my current n+1 setup works really well for me ;) Cheers!
Right and this is the only thing that bugs me about 890. I went to 1000km service to KTM dealership and my chain was set as per manual - they told me it was too loose and it will eat the chain guide when set like that. They set it much tighter and it didn't make the noise, but my concern was then about the shaft bearing and sprockets.... I feel like it will drive me mad one day...
I have an 1190 AdvR. A tip. Only set the chain for what the manual calls for. That plastic piece on top is actually a slider. Lubricate the chain regularly. Get yourself two tools. A Pro Motion chain adjuster/measuring tool. Then a BPA-Racing Motorcycle Chain Slack Adjuster Tool. Once you have the chain measured correctly use the BPA to keep track of your chain. Trust me, eventually you’ll hardly notice the noise. You’ll notice the center stand more than the chain.
I am headed in the opposite direction. I bought a Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro two years ago right after moving to NW Washington. I thought I would be doing longer road stuff with a bit of dirt thrown in living here, but I am actually riding shorter distances, spending more time exploring dirt back country stuff. I am 64 and ride alone where there is no cell signal quite a bit. I am constantly worried about me having to lift my 500 lb + motorcycle by myself. I can do it, but it is not easy, especially in mud or sand. Also, it is more a street bike than dirt, so it has more stuff that breaks or gets scuffed when it goes over. A 701 or 690 will still allow me to do two or three hour road rides and also be a lot freer to roost out in the back country. If I drop it, it won’t cost nearly as much as much to fix it.
Hey there Woody DuBois and thank you for your comment. I absolutely agree with you - riding trails alone on a heavy bike with limited or no mobile coverage might reduce the pleasure of that ride. And to be honest - after selling my 701 and getting 890AdvR, quite quckly I bought the second bike - 2018 CRF250L with basically no milage (less than 1500 miles) just for local weekend offroading. It is much lighter and since this is my 2nd machine, I could use much more offroad oriented tyres on it. So I wonder if this might be an idea for you as well - to keep the Triumph for street riding as this is very comfy and to get something much smaller and lighter for those trail days? I loved my 701 and it was a perfect do-it-all machine, but one thing for sure it wasn't comfortable. And having in mind your mentioned age comfort might be an important factor to keep you happy with your bike, I guess. Anyways, I always wanted to have just one bike and ride it to the fullest, but I think I am now happier with two.. All the best from Poland!
Cześć. Poszukuje lżejszej i bardziej offroadowej alternatywy do Africa Twin.
Ograniczyłem swoje zapędy do trzech modeli: 890, T7 extreme i Tuarega.
Many thanks for watching my videos and all of your comments - much appreciated. After winter hiatus, more content is coming soon - we are just back from Morocco trip :)
I own a (road legal red moto) CRF 450RX , which is powerful and fun on a MX track , but awful on tarmac (22km maybe 25km) max 😢) ..So I’ve bought one of these 701’s , to be able to complete more trails !
Hi Rafal, what kind of steering damper are you using? Where did you buy it? I'm in the process of buying the bike, and I'm putting the list of mods together :) Thanks a lot. Greetings from Slovakia!
Hey there Judoka80! I did not get a steering damper, I only used KTM Progressive handlebar damping system (PHDS) to reduce vibrations of handlebar and mirrors. It also brought less fatigue for my arms and hands. Good stuff. Good luck with your build! :) Cheers.
