The date of this recording was January 28th of 1976 because the cavaliers lost to Houston that night at The summit which Pete mentioned in the opening.
Not saying this is definitive, but arguably, ARGUABLY: there is a case to be made that Joe Frazier, at his best and on the night of March 8 1971 (the first fight with Ali), Joe was one of the greatest fighters who EVER lived. I mean he was and is one of the greatest ever anyway. But take every fighter on the best night of their career- name me one who was better than Joe Frazier was that night. Dude gave it all: dropping his gloves to taunt and laugh at Ali while making him miss with just his head, beating him up on the ropes and then pulling him to the middle of the ring just so he could beat him back to them again, stunning him several times and knocking him on his ass with the greatest left hook you'll ever see: dude was on FIRE that night and it was a historically outstanding performance. He was going to die or get the W- he spent all his body fluids, his blood pressure was dangerously high, his kidneys were in bad shape (hence why he was in the hospital for a while after), and he was so emotionally worked up even after the fight ended he was having trouble controlling his breathing and calming down and began vomiting in his corner, which is why you see Eddie Futch and his seconds surrounding him to shield him from the crowd and camera... Joe was a real man with dignity and honor and every bit Ali's equal in there- and on that night, he was even better. Period.
Joe Frazier was class, Muhammad Ali was a great boxer. Had a fast, quick, mind and was funny. but also could be very cruel. I never understood out of all the fighters why Ali attacked Joe Frasier so viciously? Honestly, Joe Frasier is a handsome man Ali was more pretty. Joe was rugged. There were some awful looking fighters that Ali fought. Mentioning no names lol. But he never hit below the belt the way he did with Joe Frazier. It’s sad because it wasn’t necessary. r.i.p.
Maybe because he knew Frazier was his toughest opponent-physically and mentally. One could argue that Norton gave Ali more trouble than anyone but Kenny didn’t get to Muhammad the way Joe did.
Did Howard Stern ever credit this guy? Pioneer of that kind of radio and, at the Guardians game the other day, I said 'we are the children of the World, World!" because that's what Pete said , circa 1985, lol. with World B. Free. And it's another holiday coming up, that means Brinda will be working, lol!!!!
George Foreman was drugged during that fight by Dick Sadler, his trainer.Who later went out to work with Muhammad Ali's camp - George foreman's too classy to cry foul for too long - But right after that fight he knew he was drugged. And if you do the stats it proves statistically - By the fourth round , muhammad ali told doctor fernie pacheco he was all his ... Just listen to the BBC broadcast. They'll tell you that foreman and didn't look like he had any power - They delayed the entrance to the ring by george foreman so the medicine would kick in ....
Wasnt much hoopla over the 2nd fight, Big George was the Champ and had stolen the thunder from Ali/Frazier match up, fight fans dug of course but it never got anywhere near the intensity of the first fight for the public. Wasnt really till after the 3rd fight in Manilla that Joe and Ali were the Mt. Olympus of fighting triology's!!! They dang near killed each other and fortunately Futch didnt let Joe come out for the 15th as his eyes were shut for the last half of the 13th and 14th. Ali could have seriously hurt joe since Joe couldnt see the punches coming. Two great warriors, RIP ALI and Smoke!!!
Did Ali not see Holmes before the fight how fast he was in several fights? Very foolish of Ali to not study the tapes of Holmes fights to see just how fast he was and that he was now much faster than Ali. It's like Ali was still treating holmes like he was still a sparring partner of the early to mid 70s
Foreman got in trouble for fighting in the job corps and they gave him another chance and he promised himself to be the best dishwasher and floor mopper-that pride and attention to detail is why he's a billionaire now.....Ali Frazier Forman and Holmes all born in the 40's combined for 3 gold medals 7 linear championship wins and 51 title defenses and Lyle Norton Shavers pretty good too Quarry Young Bugner too
@@writtenbyraymildo8557 No Muhammad Ali speech was already slurred by the time he went into the Larry Holmes fight in 1980... There's an interview out there on RU-vid with an old Larry Holmes saying that the Ernie Shavers fight messed Muhammad Ali as well...
