We are a couple that loves sailing and have lived aboard and cruised on our sailboats (43-foot sloop, them moved up to a classic 51-foot sailboat) and are now enjoying short sails and living in a house in Southwest Florida.
Being in a house has allowed us to also follow one of our other passions which are grilling, smoking, and cooking great foods from around the world. We love to use our Pellet Smoker or our Flat Top Griddle and make videos every single week on these topics.
Gil, glad to see all is well with you. I bet you didn't think that you would be seeing the same storm up by your Dad..(hope all is well there too) We moved to NE North Carolina and the main body of the rain passed just to our west.
Thank you for that video, Gil. It's heartbreaking to see though. This sort of thing is becoming too frequent. The "once in a hundred years" theory is out the window it seems. Too many of these storms are very consequential to folks along the coasts. I'm very happy for you guys though. The yard will be a bit soggy for awhile but no biggie. I've bugged my wife for many years about buying a house down in the Ft. Myers/Cape Coral area, where we have many relatives and friends but she keeps reminding me of these occurrences. If we lived there, all it would take is one big storm and she'd be packing her bags....shame, cause I'd probably miss her! Send me a postcard, honey! Hope you got out on a flight eventually and all's well with your Dad. Be safe and be well!
I wonder if it would work better if the back side were taped off? Or hot glued? Drilling all the way through obviously helps with drying. But of when the epoxy is applied, one side is sealed shut, then we could use positive pressure. I am probably going to have to do this on my boat. Have a 24' gelcoat bayliner ive rescued that sat in saltwater for likely 25 years. The antifouling was bad, muscles 1.5" long adhered to it, barnacles bigger than a dime and smaller than a quarter. When I sanded off the bottom mess, found hairline cracks and spider web cracks in spots of the gelcoat. Mirrored all the way through into the fiberglass. Im certain this has happened from the hand of the Marina it sat in when they took it out of the water [wrong fit trailer]. I know it's moist in the wood because when I drilled holes through into the transom for the fish finder transducer, the wood was wet. 😭 Been working on this boat for several months now. Sort of "losing it" to get her out. 😬 But it feels and sounds solid for now. I just want to get her on the water and will be addressing this at a later date using your video for reference and guidance. 😁 Thank you!
Glad the video is helpful. It held iup really well for me and while I sold the boat, the new owner says it is all still solid. I get your point on being ready to get out on the water. These refits cam take way longer than planned. Lol.
Yes. That happens when you put in a mew coffee beam that grinds differently. I ram into that a few times when first setting up and it is not uncommon when I add new coffee beam. Age of beans and origin change how it grinds. What I have noticed is that if it asks you to trim, it adjusts the next grind a little shorter duration. If you have to trim on that one too, it will adjust it a bit shorted again. For me it often gets it right for that bean after 1-3 adjustments with new beans. Now that I have found one I like, it typically only happens when I run the hopper out of beans and it messes with the amount dispensed in a given time.
Wow! What a disgusting mess but you sure made the cleanup look easy enough, all while modeling the Tommy Bahama Collection! Is there anything that you aren't good at?! None of those barnacles for me to deal with up North but very interesting video just the same. Your scenery is to kill for. Do you guys ever fish the canal? Need to post some fish cooking videos if you do. Be safe and be well...hope this tropical storm won't be a problem for you folks. Take care!
@@crivitzguy5017 thanks. We do fish sometimes too. It is funny the Grandsquids loved fish until they saw me catch, clean and cook, now they don’t like fish. Lol That said, i love to catch a quick mangrove snapper and pan fry it (you know me, I often do it on the blackstone). We feed table scraps under the dock and always have 20-30 mangrove snapper hanging out down there waiting for food to drop in the water. Sometimes it has a hook in it ;).
@@Svdreamchaser LOL...yeah, had a similar experience years ago when my kids were young with a wild turkey. Love fish and the great selection down there. We eat fish for breakfast, lunch and dinner when we're down there!
Thanks a million for the video. Our grill PB1100PSC3 purchased from Lowe's came without the owners manual AND assembly instructions. You're a "grill saver”!!!
Man, a good pulled pork shoulder really is hard to beat, they're so tender and favorable. Haven't done one in a while so this video has given me inspiration! Wow, you folks have the most beautiful yard! That is a whole lot of rock. What'd you float a barge of it up the canal?! Looks awesome...good job Deb! Hey, love the signage...whats the significance of "established 2020"? Is that when you started posting smoker/grilling videos? Enjoy that roast, I'm headed to Walmart for one right now! Be safe and be well!
Pulled pork is a staple for sure. Thanks for the comments on the yard. Deb did 2020 thinking that was tue year we bought the house. She was off by a year. Lol.
You can just smoke grill it or make Hawaiian Style liquid coating, I love the sticky glaze on it > same way i do Hawaiian style ribs OH LORD YUM Love the taste, sweetness, flavor is out of this world
Will you marry me?! A man of many talents! Beautiful little setup there too. Look out for them gators though. They don't make good pets...unless you're lookin to scare off intruders or solicitors. Great job, Gil! Be safe and be well.
@@crivitzguy5017 OK. I laughed out loud when I saw that scroll across the top of my mobile phone while driving back from the grocery store. You’re too funny my friend. Too funny.
@@Svdreamchaser wrapping the sandwhich in foil like the restaurants do! Just for for a few minutes. Give it a try next time. Really makes a different imo.
Mmm....the aroma brought the boaters in for a gander! Maybe open a dockside food truck, minus the truck! My mouth is watering, delicious and easy, right up my alley! I make them occasionally, sometimes with English muffins and bacon or Canadian bacon or alternative with a blueberry bagel but either way, fast and delicious! Good to see you back and yes, beautiful scenery! Be safe, stay cool!
No we don’t :(. We sailed her to SW Florida and two years ago Hurricane Ian totaled her. I ended up selling her at a great price to a cruising family on Key West. They sailed her down there and are still on her.
@@jamwjc1 the left side is a pellet smoker, the right side is a gas grill. With a pellet smoker, it uses fore and wood pellets to generate smoke so you can cook from 160’ and up so low temp for a long time allows the smoke flavor to show up in the meat. You can also grill on pellets. Higher temperatures and faster cook still grills but doesn’t allow enough time for the meat flavor. Now the fact that you asked the question, I hope i didn’t say pellet smoker and pellet grill but i may have.
This is such a helpful primer on this plywood. Thank you. I'm using some marine plywood to paint a floral painting onto for a client, and she is going to hang it outdoors ~ and we live in New England. So I wanted to learn more about this "canvas" before I started, and I appreciate your review. Happy sailing!
@@Svdreamchaser Yes, thank you. Planning to gesso first, like I would a canvas, then paint the floral image, then use 2-3 coats of the Varathane water-based Ultimate Spar Varnish on front, sides, and back. I really want it to hold up for her for years! Thanks!
Shout out to Snoop...lol!! Looks like a great snack. Probably get addicted to it pretty easily! Sounds like a meaty taffy. One of my girls is a Dental Hygienist...I'll have to have her standing by! Loved the reference to "get off my lawn", canal-style! And yes, you'd better hide the pan in the trash before the bride sees it! I'm with you there, brother! Be safe and be well!
The video was a life saver since I couldn't remember where all the springs went! You didn't remove them but I could see their location in your video....thanks!
Look at you! Cook, clean, bariata, sprinkler fitter, all rolled up into one! Yeah got tour Florida heat up here in Northern Illinois now. I think it may actually be hotter up here today...97° with 105° heat index. Sometimes like ten straight days 90 plus. I need to move to a cooler climate...like Florida! batista, job on the plumbing! I always thought Teflon on plastic pipe fittings was a no-no but what the hell do I know?! Take care fella, be well!
@@Svdreamchaser OMG...I just read my original reply to you! Next time I won't try to send you one while my 3 yr old granddaughter is running around with my reading glasses! Too blind without them to type! Be well!
@@crivitzguy5017LOL. Well for you it may be the glasses, for me it is the fat thumbs replying from my mobile. Errors abound, and I have gotten lazy with correcting them at times. I built a keyboard shortcut on my phone that if I type “ftsiri” it replaces it with “forgive typos, via Siri”. That way when I reply via text or email to my team, they know I haven’t been drinking or something.
@@Svdreamchaser Great idea! Nothing wrong with a drink or two either! My kids call me "sausage fingers", friends call me "big paws"...so yep, I'm using those for excuses too! Be safe!
Thank you so much for sharing. We are planning to go in October for our 10th wedding anniversary. I was on RU-vid trying to find a video that shows how close cabins are to each other. We considered the cabin you showed but right now booked for countryside deluxe. Thank you again
Oh, you will love it @lisawyatt3356. We have stayed in a few different cabins over the years. I can’t recall if I have stayed in the countryside deluxe but i think those are also private cabins. Just ask if you can get one with privacy on the balcony. There is something a bit lovely with being able to get out of the hot tub, put on one of their awesome robes and just sip wine or coffee sitting on the back patio looking out at nature in the woods. We filmed the video in one of the cupid hideaway cabins. I hope you have a great anniversary and enjoy the quiet and time for just yourselves as much as we did.
LOL, slight technical glitch! Now THAT'S a sandwich! The grilled onions add so much flavor too, along with the cheese. That definitely is a big boy's sandwich! Fried bologna is so underrated, I think. Hey, beautiful day, great scenery and and excellent sandwich...you got it made! Be safe and be well! Hope you were spared from the big rains of the past few days.
@@Svdreamchaser In-laws in Ft Myers said the same...12" in past few days. We have your Florida heat up here now too. Gonna have 12 straight days 90° and above, next several days with heat indexes over 100°. Ouch! Safe travels Gil, be well....HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to you!!!
Thank you for the video. My "takeaway" is using marine grade buytl tape for "a flat surface to a flat surface" as you described. I'm in the process of resealing an escape hatch because my boat manufacturer (like most!) only used some sort of caulking for TRYING to make a waterproof seal between flat fiberglass & flat aluminum. It doesn't last long and eventually leaks because most of the sealant is squeezed out when the frame screws are tightened into the fiberglass. It's perplexing why so many of the deck hatch videos do it wrong and don't address it. Bed-It buytl tape or Taco hatch tape WITH caulking on the outside seems to be the right way to do it.. Bottom line is that you need a gasket-like seal if you want a lasting seal...
So true. I think the other thing is people think these are do it once jobs, but with all the potential boat flexing and sun, these may need to be rebedded in 10-15 years.
For some reason the valve on mine won’t go into the aluminum pipe very far, definitely not a inch. Idk what the problem is everything looks strait. Also there is a wire screen that can be cover or uncovered by rotating that little metal cover where the valve goes into the pipe. Should that be closed or open ?
I left mine open about 2/3rds of the way. That just helps add oxygen to the flame. You may want to test it with that gap. If your referring where the gas needle goes into the pipe, it doesn’t fit tight or go in far.
Good follow-up to last week's video...cleaning and seasoning! Looks delicious. We go to Chipotle two or three times per month. Barbacoa is my favorite. Anything skirtsteak is great, so tender. Sirloin is probably a better way to go, price wise though. Copycat recipes can sometimes be a disaster but if you mess around and experiment with them you can eventually nail down something as good or better than the real thing. Love the honesty of your critics...her facial expressions and body language are priceless! Thanks for sharing, be safe and be well!!!
So glad you posted this video as I haven't yet assembled my new Blackstone but once I do, its go time. Like the PitBoss, the griddle needs to be cleaned too unfortunately, or the results become less than desirable, in terms of taste. This video will really come in handy for sure. Shout out to Harbor Freight too! As always, I love the backdrop of your videos! You really need a boat behind you though! Thanks for sharing, Gil! Be safe and be well.
A personal lesson learned from me. I think i was seasoning too much after each cook. When i really scraped it hard this time it took a layer off. And i think the food tastes cleaner/better now. After i cook, now I try to use as little oil as I can to just coat the entire surface. Like a teaspoon or two for the whole 36” surface.
And… I agree I need a boat back there again. My neighbor just bought a new one and seeing him taking off playing every other day is helping that desire a bit. Lol.
@@Svdreamchaser That's something that I was wondering about while watching your Blackstone videos, how much oil is enough...how much is too much...and also, I've seen you use a little water as well. I got a lot to learn and your videos help a ton!
@@Svdreamchaser My brother in laws family were boaters forever, better than 50 years. When his Dad passed away in his 80s, they sold the boat because it was getting old and they spent more time working on it than using it. They had a slip in the harbor right outside of Soldiers Field and the fees were getting crazy and the expenses to get the boat out of the water and into storage and visa versa in the springtime, were unbelievable. So they didn't feel too bad about selling it. LOL...I knew their boatless status wouldn't last long! After only one boating season, they boat the same make and model 44 ft. boat only its a much newer model...used, but lots less hours of use on it. They got a slip in Sheboygan WI way cheaper. A bit of a longer drive from their Chicago home but...its in their blood to own a boat! Get after it Gil! Life flies by like a flash!
Nice. My last one was constant work so having something to just enjoy and not working on as much as using would be nice. But not getting anything that big. Something easy and a run about maybe.
Do people eat the salt water catfish? I wasn’t sure so have always thrown them back die to it being salt water here. Love eating the mangrove snapper we catch at the dock.

Mmm, one of our favorite dishes...my mouth is watering! Great intro too, bye the way! Man, that Blackstone is killer. Mine's still in the box but it won't be for much longer! It'll be interesting to see which we use the most, the PitBoss or the Blackstone...??? How about you folks? Got a favorite? Awesome and easy dish though. Thanks for sharing, be safe and be well!
I am not sure which I prefer. I think I get more versatility from the Pitboss, but I go through spurts. I will use one almost exclusively for a month, then bounce to the other. I am on a Blackstone kick right now. Lol.
I have done this once and turned out alright! Thanks for uploading this I always enjoy seeing what you do. Definitely making me want to try it out again. Looks great 👍
I've fried bologna for sandwiches but never thought to smoke one...man that looks great! Definitely a must try. Welcome home too! Hot as all get out down there I've heard but it always great to get back home. Sure hope things work out for your Dad. Its not easy getting old...it sneaks up on you, for sure. But, back to grilling! You're back!
@@Svdreamchaser Its kind of funny but during our five hour ride yesterday up to WI, my son-in-law asked me asked me what I had planned for the smoker up here and then he told me that his Dad (you name it, he has smoked it 10 times over) just smoked a whole bologna! I drove into town up here, 18 miles away, to pick up some groceries and since cell phone is very spotty up here, I took advantage of Piggly-Wiggley's WI-FI, checked emails and watched your video...we both laughed that we were just talking about that! He said it was delicious too. Gonna give it a go! Be safe and be well!
My question is if I'm going to pay that kind of money for a grill, why in the heck would I want to do? The upgrade is myself to me. It's shoddy craftsmanship for sure. I'm not buying that grill now, but that guy did do a great job of upgrading the motor mounting situation. I guess we're going to look at other barbecue grills for sure
I think you’ll find the quality here is similar to many other manufacturers. This was just a mod by which upgraded and make it a little bit more secure. This grill has worked great for us us and still something we use multiple times every week now for over three years.
Wow, what a great tribute! I'll bet Debbie loved it! Really nice pictures, some pretty comical. You guys definitely know how to have fun! Who did the music? Nice job! Happy Mother's Day Debbie! Have a great day and be well!
Gil, I've been watching your channel since I discovered your assembly of the Blackstone Grill production and have enjoyed them all, but I think this video might be my all time favorite. I hope you're a member of the Screen Actor's Guild so you can be nominated for an Academy Award or Oscar for Best Documentary. I loved it! Love the content and it's history, love the scenery, and love your presentation and production skills. I'm totally with you too on getting up to see the sunrise, particularly when I'm on the beach or near the water. There's something magical about seeing that big orange ball rise above the water that really gives meaning to life. It amazes me that its even possible to read any of the lettering on those old grave stones. Loved the boardwalk footage and how even though much has changed over the years, so much remains the same and the memories just come flowing back to you. Fun times, great times! Too bad we can't turn back the clock to how this country was like back then, when we were kids...60's and 70's. Awesome of you to spend time like that with your Dad while balancing work at the same time. And bless your wife's heart for giving you the freedom to do so. You're both special people and this world needs many more just like you! Thanks so much for posting that video! I've already watched it twice on the big screen! Hope your home safely now...be well!
yes, my wife is a saint and when her parents were getting older and were not close to us, she went and stayed with them for a few months as well. after 30+ years, we know/trust and just do those kinds of things for each other. The memories of these trips are fun. For sure! And finding footage of the Boardwalk was great from the 70s. So much familiarity. I just wish I found the sound of those motorcycle ride horns
@@Svdreamchaser I'll just say that your folks raised you right (and your wife too). You have a great marriage too, my friend! So many young people give up on it too fast.
