This video is now 13 years old, but you're still helping us out! I was able to fix one of my old games that had the same problem. Saved works now and I can finally play the game my dad had when he was younger. This will be my first playthrough, thank you for helping me save an old game!
This is A way to do it but only as a last resort. No shade on the person posting this video it’s his cartridge and can do what he wants, and it works but there is a lot of risk with this method. Suggest starting with a soldering 101 video and do it the right way, only do it this way as a stop gap.
I know this video is 12 years old but here we are in the future and Pokemon is as popular as ever. This video helped me a bunch, especially because I don't have soldering skills. Thank you VGM! Pokemon Gold version working again and SAVING!
Holy Hell... what *horrible* advice. Not only is this Jank... but it poses a risk to the cartridge the way he does it. Not only can you scratch/destroy the board trying to do this... but you are leaving the battery loose to possibly short something out. Not to mention the tape is gonna fail faster than the new batter and cause the battery to come loose and you will lose your save data. FFS, soldering can be done by a 10 year old. Really curious how you have so many followers doing half assed jobs like this.
I am gonna attempt this during the weekend but I wanted to ask, is your progress lost when you replace your battery? I wouldn't mind reuniting withy old team
A friend of mine has 2018 exactly the same problem with Dragonball Z: Legendary Super Warriors. Youre video let my safe his game. But now its 2023 and someone asked on an Discord server if he can do anything to safe his Pokemon Yellow Edition wich wasn't able to save anymore. Guess what? I remembered your Video and found it a second time for the same Problem. You are a Lifesaver 😁😁
Yeah, I tried using rubbing alcohol on a q-tip without opening the cart for deep cleaning. Didn't work. Some message boards suggested capacitors may need replacing. What do you think?
Popping in to say it worked great for my Gold version! Just gotta be gentle with the tabs and not scratching anything! Thank you so much cause I don't know how to solder. My cart was for personal enjoyment anyway 👍.
Thank you! Bought a Pokemon Gold a few days ago for cheap to relive my childhood. Game stopped saving and no one knew why, hence why it was so cheap. Changed the battery and it's working like a charm! And I saw the other comments about using a 2032 battery that I already had, and that worked just fine. Saved me a few bucks not having to buy another battery.
Just did this and it worked well. Useful alternative to soldering and now the battery is easier to replace in the future. If this lasts then it's an improvement to the design and arguably preferable to re-soldering everytime.
I just picked one up and had no idea how complex these things actually are. I was hoping it would be similar to the game genie i have for snes. So basically i have to buy another one to get one to work? Maybe i can just go back to the shop and tell them i need to “daisy chain” (great term there btw) bc they had like 3 more on the shelf.
This is not how to "fix" a gameshark. This is how you use a good one to get a bad one to run, just use the good one you idiot. Good luck ever finding one that works since they haven't been around for 20 years
Unfortunately, this didn’t work for me. It works when we stack them but when I remove the Gamesharks and try only the faulty Gameshark it doesn’t work. :(
