Zac decided to set up his own RU-vid Channel in April 2022 consisting of short history-based videos in his home island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands as well as in the other nearby islands of Alderney, Sark and Herm.
Situated between the south coast of England and the north coast of France, the Channel Islands are a historical goldmine that dates from prehistoric times through to the German Occupation years of World War Two.
Occupied and attacked over the last eight hundred years from both the French and Germans, the islands have endured more than their fair share of violence and hardship, and Zac has sought to turn some of this history into short videos that are made for both adults and children alike.
He hopes you enjoy his charisma and unique way of looking into the past and bringing it out on a plate for you!
He has also recently done some short promotional videos of places such as cafés and kiosks, and would like to do a few more!
Great video Zac well done. I have an upcoming blog post that features Houmet Benest so I will put a link to your video so that hopefully even more people get to see it. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Nick! Really pleased you like the video … it was fun to make! Thanks also for putting a link to it; I would like more people to watch it. I will check your blog when it is out! Thanks again :)
Bravo Zac! A superb effort - So much detail and research involved. Might be an idea to forward this link to Mick and Keith? ( Maybe you’ll get a signed photo ). Are you a fan of the Stones yourself? Keep up the good work.
Thank you Rainbow! It was sent to Keith - but nothing back - but Bill Wyman must have seen it as he invited me onto his personal Facebook page! I'm going to try get a reply from him! Yes I like the Stones and can dance to them! Thank you for the feedback! Zac 🙏
Thank you for this film dedicated to those who lost there lives on our beautiful Island but never saw it for what it really was. At least they are at rest in such a beautiful place and remembered with love from an Alderney born girl 1947.
Myself and my older sister visited Alderny in 1962 on a holiday to Guernsey, we didnt know then about the concertratikn camp, and now we think its very sad all those innocent people who suffered under the nazi regime, to think this happened on our English land, omg.😢😢😢
Yes it's not widely known in detail but has had recent media attention in the documentary Adolf Island. It's important it's not forgotten because it keeps alive the memories of what happened to so many both in Sylt and in other camps. May they rest in peace for eternity
The photo you claim was the crew of HMS Affray was actually a photo of R/Adm Ben Bryant and his officers of HMS Safari taken whilst he was commanding the Safari during WWII!
@@stevenbrown9495 I got it from both the Internet and from the daughter of the wife of the rear Admiral whose wife had the paranormal experience which helped locate the submarine. Also you can see the skipper John Blackburn in the photo
HMS Affray now on Eternal Patrol of Hurds Deep. R.i.p and thankyou to the talented and wonderful production team. Zac's flowers brought a tear to my eye. How kind of you.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. Zac says thank you for watching it and asks if you would share it to your friends. Have a lovely weekend 👍🏻🙏🙏
Thanks for the info Zac. Unfortunately I was only 5 months old when the Stones came here. Hayleys mum Mary was a dear friend of mine, and she loved to tell me the stories of the Guernsey music scene back in the day. It sounded like a great time to be a teenager. You have taught me a few things I didn't know in your lovely video, so thank you.
Thank you for the nice feedback Ian. Me and daddy wanted to try to bring back the lost memories of their time here so people remember. Of course there's more which we don't know but it's a start! Thank you for watching 🙏🙏😁
Very informative, Zacky O. Now here's a clip of the sound made by a German MG-42. It's intimidating, dare I say terrifying. ru-vid.comUgkxtcD_LTyOXeZxHKRVCrU5vl8pro-Wm1g7
Hey Cam! Thank you! Much appreciated from such a fab presenter as you! Hope you catch some more of mine in time! ps …. Love your island - it’s magical :)
Zac Thank you ever so much for helping me to locate the real Star battery. I will be going to have a look at it sometime over this weekend, of which I hope you have a fantastic weekend also. Ps I have a video I made of fort le marchant it’s a very interesting building. 👍🏽
Thanks so much for your feedback! So pleased you found it helpful! I'm sure you'll find it easily enough ... me and my daddy went to finish the last bit of filming last weekend and the vegetation has been cut down around the whole ditch .... first time my daddy had seen this! We filmed Fort Le Marchant last year but still haven't put it together! Daddy will do it in the next few weeks. Have a look at my other history videos .. maybe you will find some interesting! Bye for now! 🙏👍
Well done Zac. This video is very educational and has taught me something new. Thank you for putting this video together. R.I.P. to all those brave men that lost their lives. Amen
Nicely done young Man. The Shipyard were she was launched is called Cammell Laird`s and it is still there to this day, roughly five miles from where I live as the Crow fly`s. I was at the launching of HMS Conqueror in 1969 as my Uncle worked on her when she was being built.
This reminds me of some cine film my father took on an official visit to St. Malo by the States of Jersey, immediately after the War. The buildings were piles of rubble and the residents were still living in the cellars, with tickets on posts with their names, for the postman. Also, some photos of my uncles, similar. When St. Malo was bombed, my parents could feel and hear the concussions from the explosions through the ground, in their house at Five Oaks.
Thanks Giles. It is a part of history - like much else - that is slowly being forgotten or not talked about anymore as the generations move on …. I hope this video makes people think about exactly what happened there … and pass on to others. I wonder if your parents knew at that time what was owing on? Many thanks
Metal fatigue on a 7 year old boat? I was in HMS Sluys 1950/51 doing ASP's with Affray and her sister Anchorite when the Subsmash came in. I seem to recall that the reason given at the time was hit by a merchantman when snorking. RIP
The research out there all say 'metal fatigue' ... but that it's thought an on-board explosion was the catalyst for its failure. No one knows the exact truth - and sadly never will. Only those who perished may know what happened. 😞
Well done zac on highlighting the story of George Onions, who probably would be totally unknown otherwise. The grave looks very well looked after as well, which is a great credit to the local people. 👍
They say you Live and Learn. If I had not watched this I would probably never have known about this Brave young Man who tragically lost his Life, serving his Country. RIP 🙏
Thank you! I'm pleased you like it .... it was a little spooky with only one torch! We actually heard a couple of knocking sounds as well as voices at some point. My next video might be out Sunday if it can be edited in time ... otherwise next Saturday. Subscribe and boost my profile! Hehe 🤓👍
Thanks Uncle Martyn! I hope you liked the way daddy put it together ... I told him this would make a good story and make people remember these poor sailors
Great video-thanks -but you failed to mention the Spaniards, and Frenchmen (North africans ) that arrived as tunnel builders in Jan -april 42, before the summer of 42 by which time there were 7000 Slave Workers on Alderney including 3000 Russians ( according to MI19 witness reports and testimony of Karl Hoffman Island commandant) Keep posting.
Hi Michael Yes I knew that but needed to keep this video with more general facts - you're right that Spanish Republican workers definitely added to this hard work 🙂👍
