John Kuehl was such a good conductor that I opted to not take a pilot with me when I was a freshly marked up engineer and caught John for a run up to Dunsmuir. He could tell you when all the undulations were coming as you're nearing Anderson. He could tell you how much air to set, where to stretch brake. That guy was a legend. Bill Toland was the GOAT as far as engineers go. Stiff competition though, with honorable mentions Greg "big brain" Milton, Teddy "rake the throttle notch 1 to 8 once the rear is movin, skin er back!" Parker, Harry.. aww man what was his last name. Lived in Elk Grove, retired around 2006 or so. Dude was golden, wish I could remember his last name... was it Graham? Harry Graham? Then of course we could never forget Danny Epps. Ay y'all remember Mike "just paintin murals with my own shit on the walls of my hotel room" Dennis? How about Jeff "Don't give him a can of Dinty Moore beef stew before a trip" Kuehl.. Man, I miss those days and also I don't. Life is so much better after leaving the RxR.

Sorry to hear you've had your head buried in the sand for so long. Spreaders part II has been out for over a half a decade now and we've also completed Rotaries Part 1 and Part II since then. See the link to Spreaders here: railfandepot.com/product/spreader-snow-plow-mega-machines-of-the-sierra/ You can find Rotaries, Avalanche on the Mountain on the same website.

Southern Pacific was running limited stack service over the Donner Line back in the 90's so idk if this was the first UP one or if they calm they brought that service because thats not true

Slip in a short clip of a model train, plowing snow, in a carefully scaled landscape. See if anyone notices.

The professional hobo is seasoned by winter catch-out and know the Flanger Cab interior layout already. Even if it wasn't moving anywhere soon. Look for a hobo tag. RU-vid loco' catch-up isn't their problem.

I remember seeing this car in Popular Hot Rodding back in the late seventies. It was gorgeous then, and now. I believe it had the stock hood on it at that time.

What's really crazy is that you have powerful machine and all that heavy metal spreading the snow and would think the snow does not stand a chance I bet that metal is feeling the pain along with the locomotive.
@am74343
@am74343 3 года назад
What kind of locomotives are those at 0:46? Those are some weird pantographs. And which railroad is that?
@avaintly-x6120
@avaintly-x6120 3 года назад
Not sure what kind of engines they are. But things in top of the cabs are called ice breakers. They use em to break off ice that forms on tunnel ceilings. And it’s the southern pacific railroad. (Maybe Union Pacific) idk if they merged by this time yet.

I would think having another car after the flanger would help stabilize it and hold it from swaying..?
@mail0198
@mail0198 4 года назад
What keeps it from swaying is the blade dropped down between the tracks plowing snow. Believe me when I say it rides like a Cadillac!!

Met the man once in Van Nuys. He was nice enough to help sync the carbs on my brothers White 55 Chevy back in the mid seventies. He saw that we were tricked into a race with a 340 Duster, that was a full on race car, and trailered in.. We won! Thumb up for Howard!

donner pass is the longest tunnel for southern pacific railroad and crews of the southern pacific sometimes suffocate in smoke because there using steam locomotive but that was backthen in the 1950's. rosville yard is the yard for sp but there is one big problem on the yard one train is carrying bombs and the surface was very hot soo the wheels were hot soo the bombs exploded on roaeville yard and then they discovered another bomb then jt exploded again to watch what i see watch this vid heres the title tough times on the southern pacific

The plow on the front of a locomotive is to be from 6" - 9" above the rail, as to where a Flanger is between the rails and sits lower than the top of the rail.

My first fear would be the train hitting an ice chunk and derailing. Then you gotta hope to be near civilization or be in for a long, cold night.

Snowfighters used to derail a lot. They used to have to re-rail everything then fix the track all out in the snow
