If you are interested in the MOW equipment for snow removal this is an excellent resource for railroad modelers because as you watch this being rebuilt you can see all of the old structure. It would make a great scratch-built show piece sitting on a side spur.

the differences between the old and newly rebuilt spreaders are quite impressive. Most notably from my point of view (in the seat) is the warmth and the silence of the interior. you get that lense unfogged?

Thanks for the response. I noticed a fairly clear closeup at 8:15 after posting the question. I had to Google a number of strings because the first letter in the name eluded me. It's a Speich Clear view screen. According to the web site they rotate at 1,700RPM. The windscreen must be custom made with the mounting hole before tempering the glass. You couldn't cut the hole in tempered glass.

Smooth setting the chain right down on the enamel, pros.

Why you have to do it in 3 months? Snow doesn’t come that late and early in the Rockies.

Good stuff Brendan! Another impressive one to add to the "Winter Professionals" UP on Donner portfolio. Good to find you here on YT since I wanted to see how the 844 vids came out from last April...

Almost to all intents a new train then. Nice job not absolutely Engineered correctly but time has to be taken into account.

I was a little disappointed to see them using a torch to blow holes instead of using a mag drill and drilling holes when mounting brackets on the wings. Looks a little like a shortcut that they shouldn't have taken. I also hope they haven't over complicated what was once a fairly basic but very competent set up. It seems like the more electronics, the more chances of failure out in the field. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

ther're like windshield wipers, they spin fast to keep the snow off.

@Philip3119 They are not self-propelled. They are pushed by ex-Southern Pacific GP38-2 that are specially modifed for snow flanger and speader service. Two of these locomotives are used with spreaders, one on each end of the consist. Numerous pictures of them on the interenet...or buy these guy's videos. I have. Railfann

railfann We don't use one loco on each end of the consist. Where did you get that info? We use two in line to shove on our Jordan Spreaders. In the Cascades, we use one smaller loco and one road unit. There's nothing set in concrete, we do what we need to do to get the job done.
