I got a crazy story about Bobby Allison, After a race in late 50’s -early 60s he was gifted a Rolex Milgauss , worth over $300,000 today. I spoke to him years ago. 2017-18, he said his brother in law brokered deals for him and he got paid 11-12k for 2 rolex watches. One being the milgauss, he name the date is inscribed on the back.
Love the interview with ricky rudd hopefully one day you should get Jim long, Bill ingle, and gary DeHart on the show for future interviews down the line considering that all 3 of them got their first nascar win with ricky rudd
@TheSceneVault interesting looking forward down the line now you just need get in contact with Jim Long, considering he was responsible for rudds biggest career win the 1997 brickyard 400
Man he was fun to watch on the road course's. congratulations well deserved and overdue.who knows what might have been if Yates racing could put on belts correctly 💪
I got to meet Kenny Bernstein in 2003 at the Gator Nationals. It was the first drag race I been to. I was always a Ricky Rudd/NASCAR fan. Everyone was crowding John Force. I just wandered off and Kenny was just just casually talking to fans. I knew who he was, Kenny Bernstein is a legend. I walked up there and listened to him talk while he was signing autographs. I only had a hat, I gave it to him and he signed it. We got to talking about Ricky Rudd and his #26 Quaker State team in the late 80's. He said he know he had a good race team with Rudd and McReynolds as a pair. He said he was proud to have had a bit of success and acknowledged the reason was because of those two. He also said he wished he had more time to effectively keep that going.
I wrote a letter to the editor in 1990 while deployed to Desert Shield, and WCS printed my letter and mailing address. I received tons of mail and one letter was from a Stephen Love from Florence, SC who offered to take me to Darlington. I accepted his offer when i returned from overseas and Ricky Rudd won that race in the Spring of 1991.
@@TheSceneVault oh wow...I can't tell you how much I appreciate this. I wish I could just tell all those great fans and teams how much I appreciated their letters. I got letters from the Talladega ticket office ladies, Phil and Marcia Parsons sent care packages as well as the father of Rob Moroso's girlfriend. Thank you WCS.
Can't recall exactly the year but I believe he was just now starting out with Bud Moore and he came by the car lot I worked at he was wholesaling a car I can't recall the car but we bought it from him. His dad had the junkyard and I guess he was still hustling. Anyways my brother graduated with him and I graduated with Ricky's sister. Good times I didn't know he will become the star he was but it was cool. 👍
When I was listening. And you said you had scan all the Grand National scene. News papers back then. How can we go back and look at them on line I used to love to read them.
Love this channel. Every car Rudd drove got better. To me the 6 wins in modern era as the last successful truly independent owner driver put sets him apart from others with similar stats. Elliott with a ton more $ wasn't able to win any with his own team. Got to meet him a few times, one of the nicest guys ever, very happy for him to receive this honor.
My favorite driver. I remember an interview with Dale Earnhardt and they asked him which driver he would RIDE in the same car with around the track at 200mph. He said he would prefer not to ride with any of "them guys", but if you forced him, he would pick Ricky Rudd.
My Father was a bodyman at Poquoson Motors in Hampton Va, and Ricky used to run Karts and motorcycles, met him while he was delivering Used Auto Parts From Al Rudd Used Auto in Chesapeake Va. Ricky is a touch sob thats for sure.. nothing but repsect for him and his family, thankful Bill Champion had a hand at helping Ricky get started in Cup.
Sad that NASCAR has not put Harry Gant in the hall of fame, Harry did not start full time in Cup until he was 39 years old, an age when most drivers careers are starting to wind down, no one to this day has done what Harry Gant did in cup when he was 51 years old winning 4 cup races taking second in the 5th cup race of September and winning both Busch races in September of 1991 for a total of 6 wins and 1 second place finish. Shame on NASCAR.
I saw him in a restaurant in near atlanta motor speedway before the Atlanta race in 1983 right after the Daytona crash his eyes were still black but he was smiling and talking to people like nothing was wrong
And ricky drove for a lot of different teams to get that streak.that speaks a lot to me.what if he had stayed at the same team for a majority of his career?
The NASCAR HOF still hasn't been around that long. 2010 / with 3 inductees each year. There is still a long list that will adventually make it in. It's a shame some will not be here to enjoy their day.
Ricky Rudd is well-deserved to get this honor to go into the Nascar Hall of Fame look what he did with every car he ever drove he won a race for Richard Childress he won a race for Bud Moore he want to race for Robert Yates he won a race for himself I have been a Ricky Rudd fan for a very long time and he is well deserved more than the person that is going in with him look at all the different iconic car owners he drove for Ricky Rudd will always be one of the greatest NASCAR drivers ever I met him plenty of times at Riverside International Raceway back in the day he is a nice guy on and off that track keep up the good work I love your show and God bless
My all-time favorite driver. Fierce competitor. Drove two of the coolest pain schemes ever-Tide and Havoline. And I saw two of his wins in person- Pocono and Richmond. Circumstances just never lined up for him to win a title but more than deserving of the Hall of Fame given his career achievements. Super happy for him.
One thing about Ricky as a racer he always seemed like a nice gentleman outside the car. But man when you got him behind the wheel and the situations got tense, he would fight like a wild dog in that race car. He had that killer instinct behind the wheel. When it came to a chance to win, he didn't play nice, he wasn't a dirty racer but he would dang sure get up on the wheel come money time. Much deserved to be in the HOF. Rudd was involved in a ton of memorable races. All the way from duct tape holding his eyes open in 1984 to Harvick's little "Yap Yap" mouth in 2004.
