I have the headcanon that each god of the Warring Triad of FF6 is the source for one of the three types of magic in the series (Offensive/Black, Healing/White and Effect/Time). Magic itself was just a weapon created from the divine power of the triad for the war. Sefirot (Fiend) = Source of White/Healing Magic. Fiend/Sefirot was the god of life, death, souls and the afterlife. In the war, he gifted his soldiers and followers with endless vitality and stamina(Cure, Cura, Curaga), sometimes even full-on resurrecting his most prized champions (Raise, Arise, Reraise). Eventually, he realized it was a lot easier to simply raise the corpses partially to create endless armies of cannon fodder, hence the origin of undeath (Undead are also harmed critically by healing and holy magic because that's their creator's power). Sephirot's abuse of his own divine domain caused so much wreck in the boundary of life and death that sometimes the restless dead can wander off his realm, creating ghosts and zombies (perhaps the phantom train is one of it's servants, charged with fixing some of the damage by guiding the dead to their proper place in the afterlife) Zurvan (Demon) = Source of Black/Offensive Magic. They are the wrathful deity of nature, the elements and the material world. It's will (mostly wrath) is expressed with every bolt of lightning (Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga), wildfire (Fire, Fira, Firaga) and snowstorm (Blizzard, Blizzara, Blizzaga) that ravages across the world. They are a ruthless master that values only strength, cunning and endurance, those that have these virtues get to survive, and those that don't are sent to Sephirot's domain. When Zurvan joined the war of the triad, they infused their myriad elemental powers into the many beasts and people enlisted to their side, hence why in the present there are so many monsters able to shoot lightning or breathe fire on unwary travellers. Sophia (Goddess) = Source of Time/Effect Magic. She is the elusive ruler of the heavens, in charge of maintaining the movement of the celestial spheres: The sun, the moon, the planets and the stars. Her distant and orderly realm is the source of the concept of time so useful to human and beast alike. When Sophia descended to join the battle against the other two deities, she granted her chosen a myriad of magical abilities that allowed them to deceive the mind (Confuse, Sleep, Berserk), enhance the body (Protect, Shell) and even bend the fabric of space time to their favor (Haste, Quick) or the detriment of their enemies (Stop, Slow). Of course, war is chaos and hell, and shenanigans happened. The Gods eventually started stealing eachother's secrets in the madness of the conflict, like how Sefirot created the Holy, Drain and Death spells by imitating Zurvan, or how Sophia incorporated the destructive force of Zurvan into the Meteor spell and Sefirot's mastery of life into the Regen one, eventually culminating in the infamous Cloudy Heaven curse she unleashes upon the party in Kefka's Tower. This is why some spells don't seem to fully fit in on their categories: the deities eventually stared plagiarizing eachother, and eventually the magic types became so mixed it resulted in the diverse forms of Blue Magic.
This song is amd shall forever be Soken's magnum opus. The song of a man who is unsure is he willmoive to see the fruits of labor realized and celebrated. He put his everything into this song, all his pain, all his sorrow, all his love and you can really feel it.
I like how when you actually understand the lyrics, this whole fight makes you feel bad for Omega. It wanted so desperately to go back to its own planet, but at the same time, it had to follow its own program.
Even these nearly 9 years later, this cutscene and song still makes me cry, and I'm not afraid to admit it. Vana'diel will forever be an important part of my heart ♥️
this is still the funniest mix of the final steps of faith because the crescendo to dragonsong gets perfectly cut off with Final Chorus and it never fails to get a laugh out of me
I knew she was gonna go berserk the instant she said she’d fuse with a PRIMAL. Lo and behold, she nearly devastates the first by ushering in another flood of light lol
