Welcome to BG Pythons, this channel's main goal is to share reviews and set-ups of reptile equipment that I use (or try out), I am really keen on innovations in reptile keeping and making a positive input into this fantastic hobby.

I stumbled on your channel today while doing a bit of research, like you do 😂. Just wondered if you were still using the Heka heat panels and if you were, how they were holding up. Loving the snake room, its looking fantastic.
@@_mdb_ thanks for watching, I am and they are brilliant I have used the same ones (8 currently) for at least four years without issue or needing to change them. I think they are really good value as well. You can get them direct but IMCages in Poland will post them to the UK. Lots of sizes, I use three different sizes.
@@BGPythons thanks for the reply, I might give one a try then. Straight from Heka with shipping they work out £20 cheaper than a reptirad which seems crazy. Soon adds up after a few.
@@BGPythons I've tried a few, from non-stop reptiles (which are very similar to viper vivs, not sure if they were the same designs after non-stop disappeared) to ridgeways herpxotics. Viperia will build and seal them for you too if you don't mind collection / extra price for courier.
Good to see another video from you. Funnily enough, I saw your comment, at least I think it was you, asking re the gold bar under a reptiles and research video. I remember thinking my snakes will climb on that thing and also I think some of mine are still small enough they could potentially get their head between the bars of the guard. I had no idea how hot it got on the outside so it's useful you confirming they get very hot. You've saved me taking a hit because they're not cheap so thanks for that.
Great to see you back, mate. I'm really pleased your Boelen's is now doing well. I was thinking of using those RS gold bars for my aussie skinks but on your advice i certainly won't be using them for my snakes. I'm waiting on a quote from Viperia and i can confirm that after seeing them in the flesh at the last IHS exhibition they do look really impressive. Take care.
@@paulrichardson6701 Paul if you want to try the gold bars first you can have mine at half price once I take it out if you decide to use them. Would be good for a lizard I think.
Great to see you posting again and glad I was one of the first to catch it. The cages are looking great despite the issues and hope things go well with your pythons.
@@26Tackle.reviews you can add as much ventilation as you require, also you have a space around the doors. I bought a couple more a few months ago. They have been busy and prices are quite high now because of plastic costs.
@@26Tackle.reviews that said the two I have recent got I am a bit unhappy about as one of the doors doesn’t shut properly as it isn’t aligned well. I will do a video on these. Disappointing considering a 6x2x2 was £700!
@@abbott1734 any dimming or pulse stat would be good. My preference are the digital microclimate ones so I can set day and night. I’ve moved most of mine to the connect 3, mainly because I can control two vivs and the lighting from one stat and connects to my phone. Though they are quite expensive, 5 year warranty and reliable it is worth it.
I've been looking at the microclimate pulse b2 digital thermostat, seems to be good value for money, would you say that was a sound choice for this heat panel ?
@@abbott1734 I've not used the B2 digital, a pulse or dimmer stat would be perfect for the heat panel. I use some Habistat non-digital pulse stats with some of my panels.
Finally got mine 😊, would you recommend fitting it long ways so the length of the rhp runs with the length of the viv or width ways so the length of the rhp runs with the width of the tank (if that makes any sense) 😂😂 or maybe you could just show me a pic of how you have placed yours, and thanks again for all the advice so far
@@abbott1734 I just have on one end of the Viv so you get a nice hotspot and gradient. Ceiling mounted as well, some people have put them on the sides of vivs which is a bad idea.
You lucky beggar Ben ☺️ Let’s be honest, that is not a 50th present, it just coincides somewhat 😂 Great to hear the snake room is coming along! Would assume you’ll be needing to create some large day/night temp variations with the new air con to stimulate follicle cycling etc? DHPs can’t be any worse than CHEs, or reptile radiator panels, but I take the point about more natural radiation from Halogen lamps etc. UV could be quite key also. I take it you have seen previous accounts of cannibalism- am sure you kept close obs during the intro😅 Really wishing you every success; would be amazing to hear progress with captive breeding of this gorgeous species.
It was either these or a Series 3 Land Rover as a project… Yep, need the air con to get the temps down nicely. Not heard of Boelens being cannibalistic but like all these things you need to make sure you keep an eye on things. Will try with earnest next year.
@@BGPythons that's good to know. I have 2 vivs stacked together at the moment that are on seperate day/night digital stats and one of them is failing so may just replace the both of them with this one single. I take it you get a probe for each viv? I need 2 different temps
Hi Mikey, yes it does, I use it as a timer for my lights that way, you set the time you want on and off, so if you want 12 and 12 that is fine. Great piece of kit. Thanks for watching and glad it was useful. Will do a few more reviews once I move into my new room.
Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to setup mine. I'm thinking of putting the thermostat probe on the substrate/hide right under the panel for the desired temperature. But the panel itself can get quite hot when I touch it...can the snake burn itself even if it's on the roof?? I want to make sure it's safe for my snake...
It is safe for the snake as they cannot lie directly on the panel, it is nice and slim as well. I would not put the probe where it can be covered. What I would do is hang next to it, say 10cm. Dial in the ground/basking temperature using an infrared gun. You should do that with all types of heating otherwise the animal or substrate could cover the probe.
Depends where you are based but in the Uk they are difficult to get hold of, a few get imported each year as they are well protected. I have another pair coming in a couple of months but they are captive bred in Europe.
Congratulations on an absolutely beautiful collection! Your Axanthic BHP is just gorgeous, and the Boelen’s are always such a treat to see. What is it that you like about that particular locality of GTP?
Thank you! 🙏 I need to downsize a bit as I want everything in larger enclosures so have some tough decisions to make over the next couple of months, the ones mentioned won’t be going anywhere though. I liked the smaller head and shorter snout of the Manokwari and of course the blue markings that contrast well against the green. They are really nice pythons to keep, especially as you don’t really need to handle them as cleaning etc they don’t move and you can take the whole perch out if need be. Friendly enough to handle but not when the evening comes…they go into full until move and fix on anything warm. I will do a focussed update on the Boelens soon and a couple of reviews on equipment. Taking a week off so hope to do some filming.
That sounds fantastic if you have secured another pair of boeleni! Fingers crossed you work out a successful raising and conditioning program for them 🤞🤞
This is why I stopped using overhead pads… I didn’t cut the plug off mine & had 8 of them installed in my Viv stacks on a smart stat. And I’ve had a few of them after about 6 months burn out like that. If you think of how they’re made. It’s a “heat-matt” created to heat downwards as heat Matt’s heat upwards from the floor. So they’re just as dangerous… I loved the clean look they give as bulbs are ugly to see & they take up room. But bulbs are much safer, however still come with risk. Ceramic bulbs crack & crumble. Glass Bulbs can shatter. Heat matts & heat rocks set on fire. Deep heat projectors should be used at the side of a halogen or heat bulb & cost more money to run. So, they all come with Risk. But I’ve never had an issue with heat bulbs like I have with any type of Matt type heater. They’re a massive no no and well known for malfunctioning and setting on fire. My friend who was using overhead pads came home from holiday & her house had burned down… she came off her holiday to a charcoal mess!! But tbh I blame the companies that allow them to be made public without testing them enough before selling. Also for not taking all the knowledge they know today and creating a more natural all in one heat-source that allows natural full spectrum light that also includes uv rays and IR rays without having to use different bulbs and plugs to control the parameters. There’s enough knowledge and studies around this topic for companies to develop an all in one, safe & linkable heat system without needing to use so many plugs, bulbs & mats. But they still pump out the dangerous crap. Arcadia are no better for this. They sell you linkable uv & plant led bar… when they can create a T5 bulb todo both… it’s a money game. Why sell you 1 when they can sell you 2 for each Viv/setup. People in the Aqua marine hobby buy lights that offer full spectrum lighting. IR and UVA & UVB. I actually own a set of them. So without going off topic too much, why can’t reptile manufacturers combine full spectrum lighting that also provides heat in a natural way in a slimline unit like the overhead heat panel by using LED’s like the marine manufactures do… this would provide a much better daytime basking zone without confusing the reptile with loads of different bulbs with different light spectrums? But back onto the topic at hand, don’t trust anything in a plastic Matt/pad or rock.
@@IridescentAddicts they only eat large mice, as required, averages every 10-14 days. Sometimes give them two if the mice aren’t too big. Nighttime it is around 70F and day I just have an infra red hot spot (87F) and UV light. I have a couple of early videos of how I have them setup, it seems to work. I have two CB adults coming March time so will be upgrading all the enclosures etc. amazing pythons, inquisitive and friendly. Where are you based?
@@BGPythons maybe they look bigger on the camera. Mine are eating adult mice as well. Mine are around 4’. Are you getting the adults from the UK? I’m locating in Toronto, Canada. I’m hoping to get some more this year.
@@IridescentAddicts yep, the adults were captive bred in Europe so quite rare. These two were imports. I would say mine are about 4 foot (just over) so the camera is making them look bigger 😜
Some amazing snakes. I always love seeing green tree pythons but the Boelens and the black headed python look stunning. Boelens though is a dream snake for me. Glad you gave a shout out to RRK too.
The Boelen’s are really interesting, love how they have changed colour and the iridescence is off he charts, not obvious in the clip I showed. I may or may not have more coming….
