I’m allergic to deet I have used windex as an alternative on my shoes and ankles and around my tent openings. The mist can also be effective at controlling flying bugs, at least long enough to squash them. Probably not the best alternative but it is cheap. I also shower often and don’t use heavily scented soaps.

Love hearing Glover’s comments about wanting to be left alone. Ironically, that’s exactly what Randy Weaver said.. also a GB. I think history has proven the one thing the US never does, never has done is… left someone alone. Common sense video by the way. I personally just plan for temporary interruption in services with Antifa style protests. 6-12 months.

I just use peppermint or lavender oil outside... Keeps of the skeeters, ticks, and even spiders, and you can put it right on your skin 🤷

I'm no expert, so this is just from my personal experience. For years, every morning, Ive covered my whole body in St.Ives lotion after a shower. I've never been bitten by mosquitos or chiggers or anything else. Then, this summer, I've gone through absolute hell, covered in blisters from all kinds of bites. I couldn't even get from my apt to my car without getting bit. Then, one day, I realized that a couple months ago, I switched to a different lotion brand. So, I went back to St.Ives and finally relief. I don't know what's in it that protects against bites, but something obviously does. Nothing scientific about it, just sharing in case it works for someone else. 😊

Dusting your socks and waistband of underwear with powered sulfur, just a light dusting, does a great job of preventing chiggers as well. I have worked in the parks and farms for decades. This works, is cheap and safe to use. One dusting while dressing seems to protect me all day.

Alpha Gal Lone Star Ticks [Small Brown Ticks with a white dot resembling a star] If they eject their saliva into your body the Alpha Gal will cause an allergic response and thus make you "Allergic" to animals that have Alpha Gal proteins in their bodies. From my experience...Goat, Lamb & Cow can make me feel like I have the flu (no fever). So far pork seems to be okay for me. Quote: Alpha-gal syndrome, also known as red meat allergy or tick bite meat allergy, is a delayed allergic reaction to a carbohydrate called alpha-gal (galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose) found in most mammals.

I grew up playing in the fields and woods in central Virginia. Families did tick checks at bath time. Chiggers caused itching so we knew when we had those. The cure for chiggers was bacon grease. Don’t remember if it worked. It was the ritual. In the fifties kids were barefoot, shorts and shirts during summer.

Do not forget that chiggers, ticks & other bites can be killed quickly with lye soap (Octagon soap). Get in shower and soap with lye soap and you are done.

Take it from someone who has had to deal with chronic Lyme’s Disease, a little permethrin is soooo much safer. I’ve always been able to intercept ticks before they dig in, but this little sucker got into my hair and dug in unseen (ixodes ticks are tiny). I found it washing my hair and felt this tiny little tick. Because Rocky Mountain Tick Fever is very common in the Piedmont of NC, I was on the lookout for a fever. I never had a fever and onset of disease was very insidious. It took seven years to get proper diagnosis. It has destroyed my former life.

Excellent video. Just a clarification regarding Galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose (alpha-gal) allergy. While the result of a bite from a lone-star tick (and possibly other vectors) is an allergy to red, mammalian meat, Galactose is actually a carbohydrate found in most mammals, including in red meat rather than can cause a serious allergic condition called alpha-gal syndrome (AGS). Our family has been dealing with AGS for 10-12 years after a family member experienced anaphylaxis ~6 hrs. after eating a beef hamburger and was diagnosed. Fish and poultry are okay, as are primates for most afflicted with the allergy. It will complicate your life.

- 00:55 👕 Proper dressing is the most crucial way to prevent bug bites; wear 8-inch boots and tuck pants into them for protection. - 02:29 🛡️ Tucking your shirt into your pants can reduce bug bites by 95%, especially effective without bug spray. - 04:05 💧 Mix your own permethrin spray for added protection, more cost-effective and potent than store-bought brands. - 06:26 🦟 Bugs, especially mosquitoes, are the leading cause of death among outdoor threats; protection is vital. - 08:07 🚫 Ticks carry severe diseases like Lyme and Alpha-Gal Syndrome, making proper clothing and chemical treatment essential. - 09:11 🏕 Dressing properly in the outdoors, even if unfashionable, significantly enhances comfort and safety from bugs.

One little detail... if you're using a saw or ax, making a lot of wood chips, don't tuck your pants into the boots, pull them down OVER the boots. Then chips don't fall in and you're walking on little chunks of wood. To stop the bugs, put a heavy rubber band or tie a string around. I should know, see what my name is?

Totally agree. Campfires are for aesthetics, warmth, and drying out socks (possibly smores). Having a (small) fire under a tarp in bad weather just to whip up some coffee is a drag. Not to mention hard to control and will eventually compromise any DWR treatment on the tarp. Assuming you can get a fire lit in the first place. We've had almost 3 months of rain every day since the middle of May here in Wisconsin...OK maybe one or 2 dry days but still.

it truly amazes me that so many people, especially in survival and firearm training are pro-law enforcement, when, as can be seen during Katrina, cops were the ones doing the firearm confiscation. people really need to think hard about trusting or even associating with cops. cops absolutely do NOT protect citizens. cops protect government power, regardless of whether that government is harming or benefitting it's citizens.

We live in the ozarks and our vet recommended very expensive pills for our dogs to prevent everything, basically. But our dogs seemed to be tick taxis and we got lots of tick bites from ticks that would jump off them onto us. One of our friends said to bathe the dogs every couple of weeks with Hartz flea and tick shampoo. We exchaned the expensive pills for frontline to cover the heartworm. We haven't had a tick bite since. The shampoo .27 percent phenothrin, which is chemically similar to permethrin, both being synthetic pyrethroids. They both have very low toxicity to mammals, the exception being cats, which are more susceptible to pyrethrin toxicity
