I definitely love the knee trick and getting that close to not cause pain the shoulders, one of my favorite survival guides les stroud, always put the dry stuff under the board, because if it’s truly life or death fire, dust/coal forming is so careful and like you showing how authentic at transferring or wind blowing it away! I just love it falls into the nest and well I have a hand trimmer so if I tried transferring but hand I’d never get fire! Loved the video!
I don't care how good you are, handdrill is tough and can humble you in a hurry if everything isn't perfect. One thing I've started doing if it's even remotely iffy, I do a double dose of dust. Fill the notch, back off a little, fill it again and then go for the coal. That double dose of dust can make all the difference going from ember to fire.
Doesn't he mean " horseweed " (Conyza canadensis) and not " horsetail weed " (Equisetum hyemale) ? I make that name mistake once in a while too. Having some punkwood or dried chaga fungus coal extender on hand is always a good idea when dealing with small and delicate hand drill coals.
