It's really not about "every artists has strengths and weaknesses" its about when an aspect such as lineart is master level and the rest of it is very clearly beginner, theres a big gap, and people are dishonest about it. Every artist is different yes, but there are foundational things every master level artist will have a baseline at. But it's difficult to explain this to a beginner artist who doesn't have the eye for it yet. I think its fine to trace certain aspects if you're stuck and can't figure it out, but lying about what you're able to do and just tracing the whole thing/taking commissions for it isn't right.
you can tell real quick who may misunderstand or be in the dark about an Artist's process or strengths/weaknesses and who's just trying to put down artists in general just to offend them by who can empathize with your level, and who doesn't actually do art. everybody's got strengths and weaknesses in art, it's nothing new. and if using references, taking a class or two, getting advice from fellow artists, or even tracing certain body parts can help one improve, then there's nothing wrong with that. try your best to surround yourself with people and artists who can understand where you're coming from when you draw, even if it is just 1 other person.
that twitter post is total bs... their "how to spot" is literaly wrong.. they forgot that artists are different.. some draw without sketch, some suck at coloring others suck at lineart.. maybe someone had hands problems... doesnt mean they trace lmao... also not all tracing is bad or wrong. tracing non copyrighted stuff like shape poses is prefecly legal and doesnt require announcemnt. what makes art yours is your own style.. not if u can draw a pose or a tree XDDD no one had problem when comic artists do it to save time but ppl rage over some unknown online artists its so funny
the artist themselves made it clear that while their thread can correlate to some people who use AI Generated works, that some of what was addressed can apply to artists who may be lacking in certain areas, or prefer to draw certain aspects in certain ways. Tracing and not being transparent about said tracing can give onlookers and other artists the wrong idea, and regardless of if it's licensed work or not, it is important to give credit where it's due. Tracing is only a major issue regarding artists who get paid to make art, such as commissions, and trace over other artists work without their knowledge or consent, or even informing the client about it. Tracing, especially if you're a starting artist, is fine, provided you own up to it and add your own touches. will you get disapproval? yes. but a good artist can understand and acknowledge the work done alongside the trace. people will disapprove over matters such as this for creators who are more smaller all the time, because they think they can get away with it. when people do it to larger creators, that is when more pushback is evident, and those same people are corrected and put into a negative light. it doesn't stop attention seekers, but it does show people are not gonna take that lying down.
As someone who's been doing art for over a decade you, yes you, should not fall into the "tracing is illegal" crud. If you post it online give credit but tracing is hella useful! I've only recently got outta that and I can say with full honestly that my art has gotten better. For example, I like to trace an image if I'm stuck on something, slide the traced line art off the og image and reference the traced image because it's much simpler to look at and you can get a feeling for whatever it if your referencing! Doing art is a feeling not just emotionally or mentally but physically your hand needs to know what it's supposed to feel and eventually it'll just do it on its own. You gotta use all the tools out there. Don't be afraid to experiment with things and don't fall for second best. Ai isn't the solution, it can be the help but it shouldn't be the end result. Where's the fun in creating if your taking from someone else? Also love the hair man I got the same cut lol.
Tracing is really a major issue for those who go off about being original while profiting off of it. that's always the issue, people who make money off of their art and deliberately copy/trace others works for their own. it is good however to get an artist into the field. muscle memory is an important factor for art, especially with something like anatomy. sure, while digital art has it's software to make drawing a circle easy, that can only get one so far. AI of course isn't the solution, it never was. it is, and should better be considered as another tool. sometimes what AI generates is actually helpful for artists to look at and draw in their own way, and that's fine. some people just want a shortcut to success tho, and that's the problem. and thanks.
as an artist who cant record her process as the program i use always corrupts the saves i hate that speed paints seem to be the only way to prove your innocence fro art. not everyone uses obs and insta records their process some people just draw
I've posted timelapses and speedpaints and still have gotten the ai art comment. Recording it isn't the only solution, as screenshots during sessions of a project are good evidence. While ai art can attempt this, it's not going to be the same compared to an artist who captures their work. There are free to use softwares available (such as autodesk sketchbook) that come with their own recording software, and for mobile, there are applications available to install a screen recorder if needed. While technology genuinely sucks at times, it is a giant trial and error game.
my problem isn't that the month exists, my problem is this behavior from (lets be real. companies & attention whores) who every june now claim being in support, and then every other time of the year they are silent. hence, "you don't NEED a month to love people."
I still stand by despite me not having an issue with the month in any way, you don't NEED to have a month specifically just to love people. doesn't matter if it's not Pride Month, if you love the people in your life, do that whenever you feel like it, and that includes yourself.
On the subject of souls games, your frustration is kind of the point. The game functions on a "i show you, you learn" logic." And part of that is using deaths as a way of testing if you were paying attention. It sucks that it wasn't for you, but there are plenty of other good games, like Hades. Which does use that same logic, but in a more obvious and less frustrating way.

It seems like every time you turn your head something else is trying to beat it in. I just try to hold firm to the reason I make art which is to create interesting things and see how far I can go.
P3 Reload/Persona was one of those games that i wish i had never bothered to stream, honestly. i feel like a number of Persona fans get swept up in watching people play the game or their favorite moments to skip to (lets be real, how many people are actually sticking around to watch someone take out the 500th enemy again and again to level up? and if they are, how many of them are still actively watching and don't just have it playing in the background?) and not burdened by a schedule to stick to, that burnout just doesn't hit as much for them. JRPGs are fun alot of times, but...GOD DOES IT GET BORING OFTEN TO PLAY. ESPECIALLY LIVE...WHEN NOTHING INTERESTING IS HAPPENING. NO PROGRESSION OF STORY, NOTHING DIFFERENT THAN BEFORE.
Kip is a cool dude. Great convo! MCC is great but yeah the initial technical issues was such a downer especially when the servers didn't work for a while. But I still play it here and there. I miss having to find the skulls to activate/collect them but the accessibility to alter the gameplay is great for newcomers and replay value.
