Off-topic... pensando ai rumors del sensore Fuji mi veniva in mente un possibile argomento per un tuo prossimo video : come si fa a vedere correttamente, giudicare ed editare foto scattate su sensori da 20, 24, 26 o anche 40, 50 o 100 Mp su schermi che (al massimo nel caso del 4k) ne hanno 8 ? Tralasciando chi croppa (che praticamente riduce le dimensioni del sensore in partenza), penso sarebbe un argomento interessante.

The APS-C isn't any cheaper or smaller, never was, newer will be. This whole idea of a smaller system is just one big lie. Equivalence explains everything beautifully and shows how Fuji X is a very overpriced crop system compared to modern full-frame alternatives. Perhaps Fuji isn't getting much further with the X because they feel perfectly fine with how things are going now with the current X user base. And to move on they really need a new system between the X and the GFX. Which they should have done long time ago, instead of toying around this folklore myths about the crop system being "smaller and cheaper". I hope this new "FX" system is coming soon and the company stops trying to fool everyone with nonsense like their XF F2 lenses being "smaller and cheaper" than their non-existent FF F3.1 alternatives. Otherwise they will never regain any respect from people they can't fool. As long as my $100 FF 50/1.8 (for example) can shoot images exactly like the $600 XF 35/1.4, I'm not going to waste money on Fuji X.

Disclaimer: I am an admirer of Japanese culture and what I am about to post is done with no intention of offending Japan and its secular culture. I love the country and the people, and I have numerous friends there, including my wife's uncle, who happens to be the CEO of a huge infrastructure company, which inspired the piece I'm about to post. Excellent video here, and the issue raised has hit the nail on the head - no doubt about it. There is no doubt that it is indeed about lenses, the FujiFilm echo system and the newly acquired autofocus problems (i.e. read 'half-backed' firmwares at FujiFilm), but on top of that there is the Japanese corporate culture, which can be summed up as follows: Teamwork and consensus-building are highly valued, with an emphasis on maintaining a harmonious working environment. Loyalty and respect: Loyalty and respect are very important in Japanese corporate culture. Employees are expected to show unwavering loyalty to the organisation and to their superiors. It's interesting taking a look at an aviation crash to understand Japanese hierarchical mentality. In 1985, an All Nippon Airlines flight (a Boeing 747) crashed, killing 524 people. A very sad event, but there was a hierarchy issue behind it. The Co-Pilot wanted to warn the Captain about an ongoing problem as the crash was attributed to a missing tail fin that was likely structurally weakened because of frequent landings and takeoffs. They were flying a domestic route from Tokyo to Osaka, apparently veered off course shortly after taking off for its 60-minute journey. It was hundreds of miles away from its planned route when it came down. The co-pilot just couldn't bring himself to open his mouth and warn the captain that he was hundreds of miles off-course. Do you see the problem here? It's a typical Japanese mentality where (and now we're back in the corporate world) nobody leaves the building until the CEO has gone home. In such an environment, making decisions where everyone looks up to the CEO and waits for his orders becomes a very difficult task. It can be very, very difficult to 'steer the Japanese ship' (i.e. the Japanese company), so if the CEO has no vision or strategy, but above all no understanding of what they're making (and what needs to be done to improve it and be competitive), then a company could come and go sooner than it should. I don't know what's really going on at FujiFilm, but for one thing it's a Japanese company and all of the above could apply, I'm afraid. 
Secondly, CEOs aren't usually chosen for their knowledge of the product they make, but for their salesmanship. The engineer, let alone the marketing strategy planner, has a very hard time getting all the way to the top and getting their important message across in Japan and making the 'demi-god like CEO' understand that this lens or that sensor or that AF has a problem that the company can no longer afford if it is to survive in today's market. I don't shoot FujiFilm, but I respect them and like their products enormously. I plan to buy the next X-Pro 4 if mankind doesn't exterminate itself first. But if I do, will these problems be addressed? As a company, releasing a firmware update that makes AF performance worse leaves a lot to be desired. And raises all sorts of questions about the health of a company that, to date, only has a 6% market share.

Ma a questo punto perché Fuji non fa solo macchine con focus manuale? In ogni caso non funziona, quindi meglio ammetterlo e togliere del tutto l'AF. Ovviamente dovrebbe abbassare conseguentemente i prezzi, togliere almeno 500 o 600€. Creerebbe così una nuova fascia di mercato, venderebbe unicamente a chi piace il focus manuale e/o a chi può spendere meno, incrementerebbe sicuramente le vendite, il numero dei clienti, e non avrebbe più a sorbirsi le critiche di milioni di clienti che hanno pagato per un AF che non funziona. Solo un suggerimento smart 😉

Great video, @Luca! I only shoot photos of my family as a hobby, so my use case is very limited. I switched from a Canon 5D (with several "L" lenses) to a FujiFilm X-H2s in October 2022. Overall, I've been very happy with the full range of capabilities. I agree with all of your points, and even the Autofocus issues have not been much of a problem for me. I think if I had to make the switch today, I would probably still make the same choice.

Would it be worth to wait for G2 version of it? Planning to get it for a6700. Any idea how it performs on apsc in terms of CA and sharpness?

I use a lot of expensive cameras for work (Canon R3, Sony A7RV, Leica S007). I could choose anything for my personal camera, I chose the Fuji X-S20 as my main camera for MY shooting: every day carry, family, travel, the photos that are the most important to me. This is the camera I want to shoot with.

I'm worried because with the lastest update of my X-T4 (v 2.12) i noticed that focus is completely unreliable! Before that, I had no issues with tracking autofocus. I used my 33mm F1.4 and Viltrox 75 mm F1.2 last weekend and maybe 90% of photos are out of focus and soft, even shots at 1/800 shutter speed. Before that update those lenses always used to deliver insanely sharp images and perfectly focused using the same settings. Anyone else experimenting same problem?

I am glad you made this video, so I don't have to. It's a shame because I think the xh2s has sooo much potential but Fuji is not able to use that potential to make this camera a no brainer. Thats the reason for me to switch to sony. I need reliable AFC in Video and I don't get it from fuji, I need a good stabilization for video but as you mentioned if I use it as a tripod its good but if you move just a little bit its bad. If I could go back in time I rather would have purchased the A74. Yes 4k 60fps with crop and 120fps in FHD but with an apsc camera you have that crop anyway and let's be honest...the 120fps in 4k is not really good (and AFC is even worse). For that price I paid for it I think the A74 would have been a better choise. And as I said it's so sad because I FEEL that the xh2s could be better.

Premesso che sottoscrivo (quasi) tutto quello che hai detto, il sistema fuji è davvero meraviglioso ma quelle lenti che hai menzionato, per un sistema che si rispetti, in 12 anni DEBBONO saltar fuori. Senza se e senza ma. Il discorso della lente adattata all'APSC Crop Sensor, non mi trova d'accordo. Certo dal punto di vista della logica non fa una piega, la lente al centro è più incisa e pertanto ci si aspetterebbe una performance migliore. Ma i test svolti dimostrano diversamente. Innanzitutto va detto che un 500mm con un angolo di visione così ridotto (6.3˚ in quanto trattasi di un 396mm de facto su FF equivalente) è inciso da angolo ad angolo (con differenze minime). In secondo luogo, se un obiettivo viene progettato per un 35mm e lo si adatta sul crop sensor, le prestazioni dell'obiettivo non sono ottimali (anche se la logica suggerirebbe il contrario). Questo è stato testato in laboratorio molteplici volte e non voglio entrare nei dettagli. Figuriamoci se l'obiettivo (come quello in questione) viene progettato non per un 35 mm FF ma per un formato medio (anche se piccolo). Le cose peggiorano ancora di più. Diverso, invece, è il discorso dell'AF che dipende da tutto l'ecosistema ossia: sensore (e relativa velocità di lettura), lente, ma soprattutto software. Malgrado io ami Fuji (avendola usata e visto la qualità delle ottiche e dei sensori che poi sono Sony ma la macchina dentro viene disegnata da Fuji), ho sempre evitato di comprarla per via dell'AF che, ad oggi, ha dei seri problemi i quali non hanno trovato soluzione. Non si può rimanere nel mercato oggigiorno con problemi di "Autofocus irrisolti", soprattutto se nel modo (dati 2023 ma oggi non sono molto meglio) FujFilm ha venduto 430.000 unità rappresentando solo un misero 6% del Market Share. Con questi numeri, le preoccupazioni dietro l'X mount, sono più che giustificate, quindi un plauso a questo video. A livello personale spero che FujiFilm si rimetta in sesto perché desidererei tanto acquistare una X-Pro 4 quando uscirà, ma la vorrei con un Autofocus funzionante. Grazie ancora. Un caro saluto. PS una critica a FujiFilm sono forse i troppi modelli di macchina là fuori. Meno ma fatti meglio e non 'mezzi cotti' (half baked) come si dice in inglese.

Ho un dubbio, spero potrai aiutarmi 😅 sono indeciso tra X-E4 e X-t30ii entrambe portabili e con caratteristiche molto similari (flash, ghiere e display a parte) ho gia una X-T3 che uso come camera peincipale, vorrei prendere una delle due macchine principalmente per la street photography quindi vorrei capire se una delle due macchine è piu evoluta delle altre per questo tipo di foto, contando anche che la X-t30ii è relativamente piu giovane. Thank you, I agree with you on all aspects. I do have some issues now however with the lensmount and communication on my 150-600 lens. And when the camera froze, it was , as you said, always on the same settings. But unfortunately it was the exact frame I wanted to get, and it was with the native Fuji 18-120 lens, my walkaround lens. I had high hopes when switching to his camera, not all were fulfilled, especially in wildlife photography, but it did provide me with a more creative approach to my pictures overall.

I agree on the dials. Losing the button capability was a disappointment. I also wish the company would bring back the ability to jump out of focus peaking with a half press of the shutter. I think all the newer bodies have lost that feature. There are some features of the X-T5 that would help as well: let the user disable the wrap-around of the focus point and allow the user to customize the view mode options.

Malgrado quello che dicono tutti, te compreso però, ricordo di avere acquistato la xh2s appena uscita, sono andato in natura a fotografare uccelli in volo, arrivando dalla xt4 ricordo purtroppo che anche con il primo firmware aveva difficoltà a tenere il fuoco su uccelli in volo con sfondo complesso. Era meglio della t4 ma rimasi abbastanza deluso, concordo con gasquet su questo. Trovo che in quel campo migliorie sono invece arrivate ricordo il 3.00 per esempio, e fino ad oggi, secondo me il 7.00 è meglio del 5.00, però ricordo anche che ogni volta scaricavo il nuovo firmware sperando che diventasse come una sony o una nikon o anche solo come una om system e questo non è mai accaduto. spero che come dici tu sia possibile che ciò accada via firmware, ma visto l'andazzo non so. Tutto quello che dici è giustissimo ma il fuoco è indietro a modelli del 2020. non riesco proprio a capire come su una flagship votata al wildlife e allo sport una azienda seria come fuji possa aver compiuto una leggerezza tanto grave

Secondo me avevi già detto tutto lo scorso video. Se fuji vende macchine è perchè per vari motivi è apprezzata, se però si cerca un AF-C affidabile e/o un parco ottiche migliore e più completo è sacrosanto guardare altrove, sperare che fuji sistemi l'AF-C e/o costriusca la lente che vogliamo non ha senso. Non siamo qua a fare beneficienza, stiamo parlando di sistemi di migliaia di euro..

I will be switching to Nikon soon. Thinking of getting the Z7 II with the 24-120 f/4 as my favorite genre is landscape and travel. I cannot trust Fuji anymore with autofocus. I constantly acquire focus and then re-acquire it just to make sure I'm actually in focus. Speaking of focus, they need to focus on fixing the issues that are present and they need to be churning out new lenses. All of their stuff is old except some expensive primes and the even more expensive 150-600mm.

Sono in utente reflex Canon e mirror fuji con xs20 la h2s dei poveri 😂 posso dire che dopo aver capito la macchina ed io sono pure siciliano le macchine soffrono di surriscaldamento af continuo aime e più scarso pure di molte reflex Canon anche datate tipo una vecchia 70d che uso ed è brutto dire che la fuji fa peggio di una reflex di 11 anni poi mi piace in fuji che ho foto già pronte con le similazioni pellicola soprattutto la real ace poi posso dire perlomeno che la xs20 con il con classico 18 55 ad una partita di calcetto messa a zona ed in af c mi ha cannatto solo 2 foto su 117 speriamo che con i nuovi firmware aggiustano alcune cose

io avrei fatto come con ventola avrei messo due rotelle permettevo di togliere il display così potevano fare tutte e due le versioni. e avrei permesso come sulle gfx di togliere il mirino e filtrarlo verso l'alto con l'accessorio. il mirino sulle aps-c è troppo poco sporgente

ho dovuto litigare con un loro Ambassador che per lui il fatto di non poter assegnare la ghiera anteriore o posteriore agli iso non era un problema come sempre difendono il marchio a prescindere. e poi in realtà con un firmware lo hanno fatto perché gli sono arrivate troppe lamentele

Ma cosa significa se ha ancora qualcosa da dire? È una fotocamera, fino a quando funzionerà darà a chi la usa la possibilità di avere qualcosa da dire.

Secondo me per fuji sarebbe intelligente lanciare una camera che sia più votata ai video come la serie fx di Sony, garantendo un doppio ISO nativo come la fx3 e a7siii così da annullare la principale problematica dei sensori apsc, ossia la tenuta a bassa luminosità, e un ergonomia ripensata appunto per uso quasi esclusivamente video. In tal caso sarei prontissimo a scambiare la mia xh2s con una nuova """xh3s""" ma se il vantaggio sarà avere solo il 6k 60 FPS non ne vedo il motivo

Ciao Luca, la penso uguale, in particolare il discorso monitor sia flip che tilt e doppia scheda cf tipo b. Onestamente il monitor avrebbe dovuto essere così da subito sulle due ammiraglie (ho la H2 liscia) ma penso che certe cose siano strategie commerciali, un modo magari per giustificare la serie 3? Per quanto riguarda le ghiere cliccabili è proprio come dici; avendo anche xt quando passi dall’una all’altra crea un po’ di confusione non avere la stessa manualità e a mio avviso dovrebbero essere più attenti su questi dettagli in Fuji

Nikon now offers z6 iii in the same price range which is a full frame camera with partially stacked sensor delivering better image quality and more stable autofocus performance. Among wild life photographers almost all the Fuji users I know intend to switch to another brand because of insufficient lens options.

I hope Fujifilm also has the same concerns

Awesome review on the camera Luca! I love my XH2s!! PS either you or maybe Pal2Tech guy mentioned that Single Point CAF works better than Zone CAF when shooting fast birds in flight wildlife etc. I’ve tried that on my last 2 outings, and I think I agree. My keeper rate is higher and the shots seem a bit sharper. I have done zone CAF for wildlife for the last 2 years. Ultimately I think when Fuji film send out a Fix for their hiccup on the last 2 firmware updates for AF they’ll get it fixed, or maybe rolled back to the original CAF.

Software developer almost 16 years of experience here... I am telling you, if development team, from release iteration to iteration, ignores bug that clearly ruining brand, there is something wrong. Either they did something that is not so easy to deal with, or just don't care. I was planning to buy X-H2s, but then I noticed what is going on. Those AF issues are really minor for most cases, however I don't like how Fujifilm makes the whole case as least transparent as they can, leaving customers on their own. That's a red flag for me. Bought Panasonic Lumix s5IIx instead of X-H2s and it was my best buyers decision of this year! BTW. I love my XPro2. Will not sell it :)

Just sold my smallish xt-5 kit with 3 lenses. Second time I'm setting aside Fujifilm in the past two years (last time an XS-20 plus more lenses). Much I really like about Fujifilm's approach, but in the end the incoherence of the UX and these nagging AF problems just make it more trouble than it's worth. Clearly many people are successful with Fujifilm gear and I'm glad, hope Fujifilm get things figured out. But for my part choosing simplicity and consistency in my overall kit, rather focus on creating quality images. YMMV.

You’re not alone. My first copy of this lens I bought used from KEH. It almost never took sharp photos, even mounted on a tripod. I think it was a faulty copy. I think I watched everyone’s review on it at least 3 times and I never got the same results. So I sold it. Then after a couple months I just missed it so much for the type of travel photography I do and ended up buying brand new from B&H. This new copy is great. Even at 300mm, it sharpens up like crazy at f/10 specifically (weird I know). The only drawback is that the IBIS at focal lengths above ~120mm just sucks. Even on my X-S20 I will occasionally get a photo that has motion blur despite using 1/2*focal length shutter speed. I think the IBIS and OIS just don’t sync up sometimes. Otherwise it’s a great travel lens

(Basket/pallavolo) oppure pensi che non sia adatto? (Per esempio qualcuno critica al 18-300 di avere la ghiera dello zoom troppo rigida)
