How to build classic cars on a budget in your garage by doing all the work yourself. I think outside of the "box"' and I have some unique handy self taught ways to restore cars that I will show you. I will show you how to replace rusted sheet metal and weld in new, replace damaged quarter panels and sections and weld new ones on. I do my own paint and body work when the city isnt watching, (lol), and I build my own engines. I search for bargains on parts in the local salvage yards, and I will show you that as well as some of the fresh desireable cars that come into these yards. My favorite videos are starting up and driving an old barn find car for the first time. Im a regular guy with a full time (factory) job and I am raising kids and married and I still manage to have this hobby, building classic cars. Mainly, my videos are safe for anyone to watch, from kids to grandparents, I keep all my videos clean and positive.
That 59 looks about like one in my community did back in the late 70’s. It was just an old car at the time and probably not worth more than a few hundred bucks, but today who knows! Too bad there are not more people like you willing to use their cars as intended. I still use mine just not daily. Congratulations Dan, you are living in my opinion! I bet there was not a car in that parking lot that you would have traded the Impala for!
Restodan, I don’t think you realize what type of car you have here…you had those red Batman center caps on, but what you didn’t realize here, is that was not ever ‘Batman’s’ car!… It’s ‘Robin’s’ car!! So go get yourself a ‘Robin’ decal(s) or R. t-shirt or something. Robin whore red, and leave those hub caps on, & no it’s not a “grocery getter”, It’s ’Robin’s car’! If Batman’s down, call ‘Robin’! “To the Robinmobile”!
Buy it! That way I am not the only one with very little self control and a moderate car hoarder disease! Those 58 Oldsmobiles were regarded as ugly. They are kind of weird, what makes them interesting and special for me.
My Boy Scout leader had one new the same color. He would pick us up and take us to meetings stopping afterwards at b&k root beer stand. They look so good under the lights on a hot summer night!
I had one...it's a "Super 88". MAKE SURE the engine rotates before you buy it. Those early Rockets seize like you've never seen before. Supposedly the nickle in the blocks. I don't like the looks of the belts and pulleys being off...tells me someone was trying to break it free. You WON'T find a good used engine under a grand if it needs one, and rebuilds are pricey even if you do it all yourself. MAKE SURE IT RUNS. I can't say that enough. Armchair viewers tell you to go for it, I tell the reality. I've had two early Rockets and they are not for the faint of heart. No easy swap to another kind of engine. Those use three point mounts with two at the bellhousing and one under the harmonic balancer. Besides that, it's a 4-speed Hydramatic with integrated bellhousing. I like these cars a LOT but they are a very poor choice to ratrod unless you want to spend a lot of time making it work and being frustrated. That's why you rarely see early Oldsmobiles anywhere unless it's a valuable convertible owned by some richey-rich that simply wrote checks until all the problems went away, then had it brought home for him to enjoy. Not knocking that but that's how early Oldsmobiles are.
@@restodan I think the earlier cars were enclosed, but my '63 wasn't. Not trying to scare you from an early Olds, but the 303-324-371-394 has minimal aftermarket support. Waterpumps have to be rebuilt, fuel pumps have to be rebuilt, you may or may not find oversized pistons. Somebody used to make a conversion kit to install a later Olds V8 and TH400 but I think they are long out of business. Every model through '64 has an early Rocket other than the F-85 which I think had that aluminum 215 V8, and the Cutlass which would have had the modern 330 V8.
