welcome to my channel, a place where people can share their love of all things horror. I've always loved the 'why' of things and that is what shapes most of the channel content. Not only do I review horror movies but I also look into the history, psychology, and inspirations behind them.
Another great month of film for you Sarah! Even though I follow you on Letterboxd and socials, I always look forward to these recap videos. You do such a great job selling each of the films that you loved, and always look for good points to mention in films you didn't love as much.
Thank you very much for this interesting retrospective. If you haven't seen it yet, I would recommend "The Mcpherson Tape" 1989: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qHBV8hN_GX4.html
Hey Sarah, I'm sure me and mate went to see AVP2 at local cineworld but were so let down by the end credits we walked back to the front desk and bought a ticket to see Cloverfield best decision we made that day 😅 also even in the cinema avp2 was so dark, it was my 1st complaint as we came out the screen.
So interesting. I know Dr. Colette from an entirely different context because of her presence in the BTS fandom, so this was an odd moment of worlds colliding. Great video.
Loved it. I will admit that there are ways it could have been better for me, but I ultimately loved most things about it and Nicolas Cage is insane in this role. People say it's not scary.. I can go watch the nun 2 or some other jump scare movie, and forget about it the next day. With this, I was uncomfortable looking into my dark closet at night. Still thinking about it. Os Perkins needs to make many more movies like this !
I don't know if your aware of the novel (which explains MUCH MORE of the mysteries taking place in the film version) BUT is no less absorbing for it. We learn that the priest that visits Thorn was a Satanist & was forced to kill Thorn's son the night the comet hit. & much more
Very interesting analysis. Interested to hear more about the series as a whole. Was terrified by the american remake as a kid for years. Didnt help that my house was haunted. Second american movie felt like the definitive movie and then was so disappointed by the third and the recent spin off
Was expecting a deep dive of the story but was pleasantly surprised with this very insightful and in depth analysis of the horror itself. Great work! Earned a new sub
This was an incredible deep dive. I personally find this movie incredible. Mainly cause it creeped me out so much as a child lol. Will you check the sequels for a future ranking ? I do feel like this franchise is not talked about enough
In general, horror films haven't scared me since I was five. I don't like or dislike a horror story because it's scary. It should be engaging, touch on human emotions, and sometimes open a door to a greater universe. Longlegs didn't hold together narratively enough to achieve any of those elements. I found it disorganized, disjointed, and long despite the short run time.
If someone had told me the prospect of a flexible Japanese woman appearing in my bed would scare the crap out of me before I saw this, I would have laughed in their face. Now... not so much!
I was pretty disappointed by the movie. It didn’t scare me at all except like 2 jumpscares and kinda the ending. The only creepy and good movies in the franchise for me are ju on the curse and the American grudge 2. Maybe do a video about the ring?
Your deep dives are my favorite! I love how you break down and explain films. These movies still absolutely terrify me. I saw The Grudge in the theater with my roommate when I was 18, and neither one of us was able to sleep after 🤣 I still can't watch it by myself, NOPE.
Aw thank you! I'm so glad you enjoy them. I love hearing about 'that' movie that scared people so much, stayed with, still can't watch alone. And the funny thing is it's The Grudge and Ring for so many people.
The only movie franchise that I can NOT watch by myself, in the evening, or when alone at home. Never. Even now, years and years after watching the movies I am utterly terrified by the them, and even just hearing the sound makes my skin crawl. I have watched parodies, seen and listened to interviews with the actors, but nothing has eased my fear of them. That's how powerful this whole story is.
@@whatthehorror I could watch them with friends or family funny enough, but it definitely left a mental scar. I think it mostly came from the fact that, like you explained, the scare factor comes from the atmosphere and how the paranormal invaded the simple mundane things we do in our day-to-day life. That's what really scared me I think, as it made me feel uneasy and unsafe in my own home, where normally we all should feel safest.
@@LWolf94 oh 100%, it's so invasive, the horror in this film. They literally put the villain in a person's bed. A place where we often hide under the covers. Incredibly clever idea.
I saw the remake first as well and because of that and Ringu scaring me so much I put off watching this one. There's always that one horror that sticks with you isn't there
I've been hoping to see this video since you uploaded the one about Ring. I'm glad you finally got around to seeing it! I hope you explore more of the franchise at some point, including Sadako Vs. Kayako which is *chefs kiss*
Lol I finally made myself watch it and I'm so glad I did. I'd like to compare the OG with the remake (compare the difference between the two versions of Kayako) like I did for Sadako and Samara. But I'd also like to compare the two villains. Maybe I could incorporate that film into the episode.
