I think Remy's aversion to stealing food and punishment whenever he does, isn't the movie taking a stance against theft for survival. While it may come off that way, I think it's illustrating that Remy associates stealing food What his family and society expect of him. He grows up stealing food, and aspires to a higher standard. His conscience tells him to leave the food behind, not because it would do them any harm, but because he's better than that. He's not what the world makes him out to be.
In fact, in the scene where linguine finds him at letting his family into gusto's to steal, linguine's reaction comes off as "of course you're stealing. You're a rat. How could I have expected anything else?". Hurting Remy by affirming He is everything he hates about himself.
I lost my father a couple of months ago. Because of that, I can relate to the idea that Bambi's mother might still be out there. Like this was all some grand prank, because in my grief I had the same irrational thoughts.
Is there aby proof for the Furry indoctrination thing? I am not trying to discredit, it just seems unbelievable because I am a Furry and we would not do this if it weren't for Trolling purposes that weren't troll based.
Tbh, you do have to consider that you cannot generalize communities, there will always be people in them that you wouldn't want or expect- Like Nazis that pose as Punks or rascists that are black or women that are sexist. Everything exists, being part of a group doesn't make a person automatically immune to the rabbithole that is right wing propaganda, so it's not as unlikely as it seems. Whether they actually used that method Idk tho.
Funny how Healthcare was affordable until someone said, "everyone should have access to affordable healthcare." up until then, even a street sweeper had access
I understand the parallels with fascism and social darwinism, but I still think it’s possible the creators never thought of it in a way that could be applied to people. More like being bad through negligence than purposely planned
Fun fact: in the Spanish (Spain) dub for the scene in 3:20, they adapted "you will help me save us" with "you will help me save what´s between us" AND the Catalan dub literally says "you will help me save our relationship"
This reminds me to a weird degree of The Boys. (No spoilers, just broad character descriptions, dont worry.) Butcher's whole thing is about how 'all supes are evil,' and while the Vaught company is absolutely evil, Starlight (and possibly Edgar?) are examples of that ignorance that corporations want people to believe. Homelander is the corporate cutout O'Hare.
Personally. I think that they should had scrapped both songs “How Bad Can I Be!” And “Biggering” and combine both of them in a way. How bad can I be is a good and catchy song but it doesn’t really have a meaning to it. Biggering has a huge meaning to it but it really isn’t a good song and is decent at best. Maybe for the final product, the could had made a version of Biggering that mixed with how bad can I be.
This is definitely a look at the lion king! But I have to question: aren't the lions super coded to be... African? And the hyenas are NAZI coded? Like, CRAZY nazi coded? Every time I’ve had a conversation aboutbtbe lion king’s politics with someone it’s one of the first things we bring up: The Hyenas are supposed to be NAZIS. The way they March, salute, ect, and their takeover of the pride lands is all supposed to be hint hunt nudge nudge ww2 and at Nazi ideology. Just my first thoughts watching this
If I was a dean and one of the professors reported a death threat, then brought me a student's doodle of a cat with the mister crabs meme effect on it saying "it tolls for thee", that would be the funniest day of my life
what i love about the lion king franchise is that it can be as deep as you want it to be you want it to be something dumb to entertain you? then it is that you want it to be a story of growing up? then it is that you want it to be something that gives you all sorts of a mental crisis that you could imagine? then it is that while i dont think the lion king one and half wants to show what a horrible world we live in, i agree that this movie is much deeper than what it looks like, recently i watched it to do a retrospective on it, and what i took from this movie is that it is the exact opposite of Hakuna Matata, from "Hakuna Matata" you may learn to accept your life the way it is, but Timon didnt accept his life the way it was, he took a risk and made the life of himself and his people better as a result, in the lion guard there is a character named Bunga the honey badger, Timon & Pumbaa were raising him when Simba became a father, and Bunga has a catch phrase of himself which is "Zuka Zama" which means "Pop up, dive in", and from this phrase you could learn to fight for a better tomorrow so if you ask me i say The Lion King one and half is the story of "Zuka Zama", not the story of "Hakuna Matata"
I wish someone would fully animated biggering and then make in edit of the movie with it in place of how bad can I be, so people can see how jarring and ill fitting it’d be with literally every other part of the movie
Hi pal. I choose not to view it as such and remain to ignore it. Animals cannot be religious and Judaism is forced into everything these days. Me personally, Timon isn't jewish and neither are any of the other characters. Also humans do not exist in Lion King so this whole thing of forcing marxism and judaism into it is by the creators. Also Burkowitz is a Polish name.
there's a part in the book where Nick writes down and catalogs every visitor at Gatsby's party. when my teacher asked what this might mean, I suggested that it could be a sign of autism because I do very similar things with my interests. My teacher disagreed and said that it was supposed to show Nick was nosy and judgemental lol
Biggering would never scared me as a kid, I would just think that this was the hypest thing I’ve ever heard. Every villain song was played again and again. Just listening to friends on the other side and skipping to the good parts over and over. Most of the time as kids the things that scare you aren’t realistic dissections of the human mind to lead you towards sinful thoughts and evil business suits, but just some scary monsters or imagery. Honestly the Lorax could get away with being conceptually terrifying, Randall’s scream machine is legitimately horrifying and nightmare fuel, but we just get the vibe that the bad guy made a really bad thing. If you gave more behind the musicals or made the camera thing more prevalent, then it would make things more grungy and dystopian in our child eyes, but not scary. Or maybe overly saturated kid movies is just that profitable, and then at that point what are you really trying to make? Actually that question was rhetorical, you trying to make an illumination movie.
this is totally unrelated but I just realized that the monsters inc world essentially has celebrity power plant workers. power plant working is seen as like, immensely famous, enough to have trading cards? that's really funny to me.
What I love about Bambi is that its lack of closure and catharsis is so real for so many who have lost parents. I didn’t get to give my father a proper goodbye before he past, I had so many questions and things I wanted to say to him, but life moves on, and thankfully sometimes like Bambi you still grow up okay because of your other parent or friends. It’s rough even in 2024 for me to watch that moment, but I will always appreciate the brutal authenticity to how it can really feel
I’m hoping Illumination will one day go back to The Lorax and market it to an older audience, with the Once-ler being the focus of the movie, destroying the planet not through ignorance, but through malice. He was a regular guy, gripped by the true pull of corruption and turned into an irredeemable monster. He’ll feel remorse, sure, but that doesn’t take it back. It would make an amazing lesson about the dangers of constant growth and the consequences of your actions. Nobody realises they’re the bad guy, so he could make continuous mistakes that he justifies to himself through realistically flawed arguments. The only true way to stop corruption from happening is teaching someone how to know they’re becoming corrupt.
watching this after the 5th season has been out for a while and DAMN were you right to be worried, fuck. it really happened exactly like you wished it would not
Hey, finally someone says it! I struggled a lot during my undergraduate degree due to being autistic, and seeing this movie brought a smile to my face. It... really connected to me, because I did feel just like Mike. I had to fight for accommodations and to just keep myself motivated, and to figure out what I was genuinely good at despite my weaknesses. It was rough and my degree took me an extra year because of mental health needs, but I did it, and went on to smash my Master's degree out of the park. And now I'm doing pretty okay, in a field I enjoy, because I worked hard and found my way. It's not perfect and isn't as strong as Monsters, Inc., but it had a lot of heartfelt and funny moments, and it really does show the journey of being disabled in academia. "I did everything right, I wanted it more than anyone" broke my heart to pieces and that's when I knew this movie was special.
Ever since i first heard Biggering a few years ago it became my favorite scrapped "movie soundtrack" song and im so glad to see other people talking about it
ive never heard of Timon being Jewish-coded before (might be because i'm not american), i just like this movie. it's honestly my favorite of all the Lion King movies.
