The naming of scientific laws and theories after European scientists is a historical phenomenon that reflects the biases and inequalities of the past. Many scientific discoveries were made by ancient civilizations, such as the Egyptians, Babylonians, Greeks, Indians, Chinese, and Africans, but their contributions were often overlooked or marginalized. During the Scientific Revolution in Europe, many scientists built upon existing knowledge without properly acknowledging the sources. This led to the perpetuation of Eurocentrism, where European scientists received credit for discoveries made by others. The exclusion of People of Color (POC) from scientific recognition is a result of systemic racism, colonialism, and the erasure of indigenous knowledge. Many POC scientists faced barriers to education, funding, and publication, making it difficult for them to receive recognition for their work. Here are some of the contributions made by POC scientists and mathematicians: 1. Ancient Greek mathematicians like Euclid and Archimedes, who built upon Egyptian and Babylonian knowledge. 2. Indian mathematicians like Aryabhata and Bhaskara, who made significant contributions to number theory and calculus. 3. African mathematicians like Ibn Sina (Avicenna) and Ibn Yunus, who made contributions to algebra and geometry. 4. Chinese scientists like Zu Chongzhi, who calculated pi to seven decimal places.
Not necessarily stolen most things are Codiscovered. The Europeans connected the world through colonization and trade that brought everyone to more or less the same level of advancement so it's not surprising their discoveries took precedent. Is it fair, no but it is what it is.
Oh, I love Sheriff of Nottingham! I used to play it with my sister and cousins and whenever my sister was sheriff she'd always make this long and pompous expression and say 'poss your bogs' (pass your bags) and we'd always crack up so much😆
Maybe you mentioned this in a previous video, but Pandora’s box was actually Pandora’s jar. The translator (I believe Erasmus?) mistook the Greek word Pythus for the Latin word Pixus
This is the most American thing of the last 25 years: getting upset/offended about words in other languages. In Hungarian the word for a black person is néger. Period. End of. It doesn't have a negative context, it's not "the enn word". And that little thing is called Négercsók ~kiss of a black person. I don't know why are you freaking out. We don't have white guilt, we've always done our manual labour ourselves. And you know what? We also have a herbal licorice candy or more like lozenge called Negro why, bc it's black and their slogan is "the chimney sweep of the throat" and negro is just black in Spanish. It's negro not nee-grow.
When I first heard of Ubykh I expected it to have a bunch of pharyngeals (which I'm slightly scared of), come to find out it only has pharyngealization lol
True. I really don't like that in American schools in chemistry people use Periodic Table and don't even know about Mendeleev who invented it. It's a genuis invention and people must know about its creator. I even asked the teacher if she knew about Mendeleev and she had no idea! She used this table so much time during her education and later career as a chemistry teacher, but never heard about Mendeleev. It's personally insane to me! Also fun fact: Mendeleev was working so hard on chemistry that one night he had a dream when the idea of the periodic table came up to him.
Pretty sure it has nothing to do with being biggot, Most americans don't know that the number system they use is arabic because its not a piece of information that is nessesary to know. They natrually assume that the Number system was created at best by England and thus is naturally just our number system. Given our kids have such low scores already im sure it bares more to them thinking our kids already dont do well in school using our number system. We dont need to be teach them SOMETHING ELSE. For you to automatically contribute it to racism shows that you are just looking for racism and a reason to be upset.
We spoke to our kid the same way we talk to anyone else. We used slightly simpler vocabulary but the tone never changed. No baby talk or any modified speech. For years we had people say how articulate he was and how well he spoke. We did nothing special. We just talked to him like any other person.
Who cares. It sounds like you're being insecure on behalf of potential brown people. The English language names things what it names things, and you ignore how much is actually incorporated from foreign languages like Alcohol, Algebra, Alchemy, etc.
Isn't the entire purpose to say a word that makes your mouth take a smiling shape. "Say cheese!" is just "smile for the camera!" Why would you say a word that doesn't make you smile? In Thailand, we say "Sì" which means 4, as in "1, 2, 3..." "4!"
