@fritz4939 I'm still waiting for just 2 floats from this man which were originally shipped on the16.March 2024, returned & I assume re-shipped, although I've rec'd no tracking number & no confirmation of posting. There are others in the UK producing floats just as good, less expensive and you do not have to pay 10 pounds for a 4 pound postage cost. My advice - if you don't wish to be ripped-off, seek your handmade floats elsewhere on the net.

Thanks for the films I've learned a fair bit about finishing them nicely. In return I'd like to share how I cut central holes in balsa. To make the guide, on your lathe base/rail put two hardwood side supports either side of the rail, then a hardwood block of exactly the same width and as the rail and about 1" thick. When screwed together the two sides and the block should be a tight fit on the rail. The side supports don't have to touch the floor/table but they do have to be perfectly square to the sides of the central block. Put this block in position on the lathe rail as close to the drill end as the drill bit will allow then just cut a hole in it the same diameter as the balsa dowels that you intend to use. Thats the tool finished. Now just take your section of balsa and thread it into the hole in the support/tool that you made. Place this on the lathe rail and using whatever size drill you need simply drill half way through. Turn the tool/support around on the rail and drill the other end of the balsa...perfectly central holes every single time. You will need different supports/tools for differing sized balsa dowels.

Great idea. Ended up buying 1/4"OD tubing to try out for myself; it is important that you file down around one end of the tubing in order to make a razor sharp edge. It then easily goes through the cork.

How do you rig it with a line. This is what I want to know. Some use Dental rubber bands to hold the line to the bobber. I use another rubber band to secure a sugar cube sometimes two cubes to give the quill bobber weight to cast out. The sugar cube dissolves instantly.

Richard what do you want out of life? People put themselves out to help others because they realise they are good at something and have a gift, only for people such as yourself to be downright rude in the comments. If you honestly can't understand him then I suggest that instead of complain about it you stop the video on parts you didn't understand and play it until you do. It really isn't nice saying what you've said and I suggest an appology is in order.

@@matthewtanner9823 You are correct Sir and I do sincerely apologize. I did not mean any disrespect whatsoever toward this man, his video or what he is sharing. The reason I cannot understand almost everything he is saying is because I am a disabled, 77 year old Veteran, retired from the U.S. Army and due to the Vietnam war years, I am deaf in my left ear and can barely hear out of my right ear. Even with trying to hear what someone is saying in person, without reading their lips while they are speaking, I can only understand a fraction of what they are saying. This man is a very good teacher and I did enjoy his video. That is why I said I wish I could understand what all he was saying. I am confident he is speaking clearly but I simply cannot hear it.

@@matthewtanner9823 You do not owe me an apology for anything at all. I should have explained why I could not understand what he was saying. I could understand some of what he was saying but again you are correct... I had to play the video over & over. In watching a RU-vid video, when a female is talking, with a high-pitched voice... I rarely can understand anything. When in public, with everyone wearing COVID masks... it gets even more difficult. It is totally impossible to read someone's lips when they are talking. LOL

Sorry but I couldn't undestand anything (except for about 10%). I am not a native speaker but I can speak english mostly flawless and completely accent free. Nevertheless for the first 5 seconds or so I was confused why a video in which "russian" (meant metaphorically) is spoken would have an english title and later I was even more confused about the fact that someone would upload a video with such heavy dialect and I was sure that everyone in the comments would complain about this exact thing but apperently natives can understand english even if 90% of it is something else. No hate to the uploader of this video. I just wanted to share my existential crisis about the fact that natives can not only understand english a little bit better then me but WAY better and that it is common knowledge that you can talk like this and everyone will understand you. After thousands of hours of RU-vid and Netflix in english I still wouldnt know that.
@hannahelizabethpinkerton4350
@hannahelizabethpinkerton4350 2 года назад
To begin with, I'd love to hear what an "accent free" English speaker sounds like as it is impossible to speak without some sort of accent, regardless of where you come from. If a man with a very clear Scottish accent speaking in a video upsets you I suggest you turn it off and move on with your life. If you believe that people with "heavy" accents shouldn't upload videos online then I also suggest you come to Scotland and tell people that to their face as it is downright racist and I am appalled at your attitude. Furthermore, if a man's accent is causing you to have an "existential crisis" I genuinely pity you, maybe your poor understanding of English has sparked this crisis and not so much this man's accent. Maybe in future, leave your computer at home, go outside and speak to English/Scottish/Irish/Welsh/American/Australian people and get a better grasp on different dialects instead of leaving a downright petty comment on a small account who has set out to educate others and doesn't need to take this negativity from entitled people like yourself.

Jan, can I suggest that if you're struggling to understand these videos you go and see your Doctor. He may prescribe physiotherapy on your ears. Maybe your ear muscles have gone lazy? I'm sure with the right type of therapy it isn't too late to get your hearing back again to how it should be. In the meantime, you may want to work on that "Flawless" English you seem so proud of. One of the first things that Most decent Englishmen would tell you is that first of all you have to realise that you should "NOT" be so rude. That would be the first thing any person works on if they want to speak true English "Manners maketh a man". say that phrase to yourself for 24hrs and you'll be on your way. No need to thank me!!
@asorbli
@asorbli 2 года назад
I am sorry if that came out wrong. I was just shocked at how bad I was in english and how huge the step between me and a native speaker still is after thinking that it was big, but not on a COMPLETELY different level. Existential Crisis was not meant negatively but just as an expression of surprise. With saying that I can speak english completely accent free I only meant that I dont really have a german accent, of course there still are subtle differences between all 50 US States etc. It was just very surprising to me how the comments suggested that everybody could understand it perfectly fine, while meanwhile I would stand no chance understanding a german accent thats so far from my own, personal upper Austrian accent. I watch tv series, movies, and many things on RU-vid in english and I have no difficulties with that. I think its understandable that its a bit shocking to me how RU-vidrs, Movie Characters etc. which I understand perfectly well can understand something perfectly well that sounds LITTERALY like another language to me (NOT as an expression of someone speaking this way doing something wrong because I personally dont understand it). Still no excuse for not giving more effort to not seem rude in my surprise. I was just typing and not thinking. I'm aware that I must seem very defensive for repeating myself this often.

@@asorbli I know Graeme (Mr Float Hut) and have fished with him in the past. He's aware he has a broad Scottish accent and if I know Graeme like I think I do is probably smiling to himself right now. I once went to Scotland with my friend for a week and ended up having to translate to my friend what his cousins were trying to tell him. If my friend couldn't understand his cousins (when he is half Scottish) then I can clearly see why somebody from Germany can't either but you have to understand that it can be hurtful at times when you're trying to help others and all you seem to get is negative comments/feedback. We won't let this muddy the waters though. Good luck with your float making my friend and thankyou for taking the time to reply.
