So far we love it. Today there is a gentle breeze carrying wonderful floral scents through the yard. We adore Tupelo and the whole NE area. ❤️ Brooksville is just a bit further South of us 😍
OMG they are nuts!!! If you want it keep checking placees like Ebay or Abebooks or even Etsy. Someone may be trying to sell off their parents estate.😍 PS Book two is just as good if not better than book one.
Glad you see you back on Flosstube! Thanks for another wonderful video and your recommendation on the Feller books. I hope you will chart those samplers with the houses in them. They're beautiful. :)
Hi Birgit, So good to hear from you. I am glad you made the journey safely. I was just skived out but the “bug” in the French Sampler. I have the Feller books. I bought them from a lady in France. Probably paid way too much. I love the Anchor linen floss. Excited to hear what you think of it. Give yourself time to organize. It will all come together for you. Have a lovely week. Hugs, Teresa
Thank you Teresa!!! Yea, that sampler was a lot of creepy cruds 🤣 She is all pretty now still in da freezer hahaha. Did you stitch the sampler in the Feller books?
Until your video I did not know there was a sampler in the cover. My books came sealed in plastic. I have not opened. I saw a copy at a retreat that a fellow stitch mate brought. My life has become very busy lately with carrying for Dad and babysitting my granddaughter. Also running a little company and working full time. Right now I just cherish family time and focus on my WIPs. I am very interested to see what you think of the Anchor Linen. Happy Easter! Hugs, Teresa
First time watching you! Terrific! I need to watch some of the previous ones. Love your two favorite French samplers. Wishing you would chart them. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I will chart them, but I have a lot of other samplers that came first, that need charting. Thank you so much fortaking the time to watch my Flosstube ❤️
Hello, Birgit! I love your videos! :) I learn so much from them. (I was traveling for the past few weeks and am now playing catch up) As a certified Bibliophile I will have to add those books to my shelves--much to the chagrin of my husband! He will just have to make me some more bookshelves and maybe add a room to the house! The composition of the Cecile Faguet samplers is what draws me to them. They are beautiful!
Thank you for your kind words! You can never have enough good books! Ever though we did do a slight purge before our move (mostly old paperbacks) Cecile's samplers are a notch above others. I am so furtonate that I found those. 😍
Birgit, it was so good to see you again! I learn so much from watching you. The books were interesting 😮. Your podcast is beautiful, both sights and sounds. Thank you 🎉
Hi Birgit -- so glad to see you back on flosstube; I've missed you. Was so surprised to hear Mr. & Mrs. Feller sold some of their extensive collection. I was privileged, along w/2 of my friends to go on a needlework tour in the UK in 2016 & one of the many places we visited was Upper Slaughter Manor, their home. We were there the entire afternoon & to say we were totally blown away by their collection is an understatement!! It was absolutely stunning!! They were the nicest couple, even made us a fantastic lunch that we enjoyed on their back lawn. It was an unbelievable afternoon & a wonderful memory. I looked up the reason for the auction--some 300 pieces of needlework, along w/some of their beautiful furniture, paintings, potteries, etc--& found out they also sold that beautiful Manor house as they were wanting to downsize. From what I could gather the whole 2-day auction garnered over £1,000,000!! I'm so glad my friends & I had the opportunity to tour their lovely home; it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime tour I will never forget!! ❤
Hi Denyse! Great to see you 😍 You lucky girl to have been able to visit there ❤️Yes, I had the dates wrong it was 2021 - there comes a time in life were you just want things to be easy :) Here is one of the videos advertising the auction. I think a large part of the sampler collection was also donated to the museum and of course there are a bunch of newspaper articles about it too. I wonder if they are another result after Covid, people reassessing their life....ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HqaQglLYze0.htmlsi=3zo61hM00kYEK7eR thanks for stopping in!! *hugs*
I’m so happy to see you return. I know moving is all time consuming but exciting to get settled. The antique samplers are beautiful. I love all your stitching goodies. That wooden box is a dream.
Oh, I can't tell you how pleased I am to see a new Flosstube from you! A move from Connecticut to Mississippi is definitely a good reason not to have recorded a video. Moves aren't fun, but I hope you find northern Mississippi a pleasant place to live. You're just up the road from me - the road being the Natchez Trace Parkway. Driving the Trace I live about an hour south of Tupelo, and from what you said describing your location you probably live in Tupelo's general vicinity., so maybe we can meet for lunch in Tupelo one day soon!
Hello Birgit, so happy to see you back , I have missed your videos. Love the beautiful sewing box and I was thinking the two ivory things that are joined with string look like knitting needle protectors you put on to keep the stitches from accidentally sliding off when you lay your knitting down.
So nice to see you again, Birgit. I completely understand the chaos of your move! We moved to a different city in November and at 74 and 80, are still crawling out from unpacking, but getting close! I hope you find peace, soon! I purchased a 1912 what I believe to be a German marking/darning sampler. It was a somewhat local find...truly a treasure and well preserved. I was trying to figure out what type of thread was used, and After seeing this video, it might well be linen thread! I emailed photos to you just for you to marvel in how sweet (and big) it is! Hugs, Candace
Such Eye candy! And welcome neighbor! I'm about a hour and a half west of you, near Byhalia! You are probably going through culture shock if you've lived in Connecticut for a long time. Just be prepared for the long sticky summer coming up. -Rebecca
*waves* at neighbor. It was not a real culture shock 😍, I have lived in FL for several years before CT and before that NM. I love MS a lot, we scouted the area last summer (july/August)and knew for sure this is what we wanted It was the same weather as in CT 🤣 AND let me tell you - the sticky summers also are in CT, most of the summers are in the 90s with 98% humidity. Most people don't realize that. I was so surprised how much worse the summers felt in CT, moving from FL. MS does really make it's state motto proud, I have never met more friendly & welcoming people as here...up north they do have more "tude".....
Well, that is great news to hear. I'm so glad you like it and the cost of living is really great too. Be sure to share any really neat finds you might come across that would be worth a day trip. I did some kayaking/camping around Corinth during my college days but now antiques and museums are more my speed. Ha, ha!@@thewishingthorn
Hello Birgit: Great to see a video from you, you are always a pleasure to see. Please keep us posted on how many threads you did put together, I do like linen threads, they add a very vintage look to a design. Thank-you for sharing the books with us, oh my I want to stitch Julliet, and Ann Samplers, Vive Louis is amazing, love all the Samplers. Oh my, the sewing box is amazing, thank-you for sharing.
Greetings! Happy to see you again. Glad you're enjoying your new home. The sewing box is stunning. I believe the ivory pieces, that are not needle holders, with the silk ribbon attached, are knitting needle guards. I've seen similar ones on E-bay sites that specialize in antique sewing items. Cheers!
Glad to see you back; your antique samplers are just lovely. Hopefully once you get settled in your new home you will find time to chart those beautiful French samplers you shared today. I am sure I am not alone in desiring to stitch them, too.
I will, they are just so gorgeous, I agree. Miss Cecile had such talent creating these, color and design are just stunning. I think the first one was the one with the shepherdess as the date was 25 August 1822 (got the month sorted withy some help ❤ thank you Marleen!)
I hope so too! That is a lot of stitches to chart 😁 and the two should be put into to one pattern I think - or maybe two...not sure on that yet. It would make a huge chart if both were in one....
Thanks for a delightful video, Birgit. Nice to see you back. You had so many pretty things to show. Those 2 French house/pastural pieces are so beautiful (Aout = August). Enjoyed seeing all those lovely Anchor linen threads, pretty colours, as well as the wool thread samples. Loved seeing Ann McFarlan stitched in different floss and fabric. I have this pattern, undecided yet on floss colour. Yours looked wonderful. I'm curious about things going in the freezer. I expect it kills bugs, does it also kill mold? I think the last place I lived had mold circulating. I noticed a musty/stale smell on everything after I moved and threw away much stitchy stuff. I have my finished pieces in plastic bags, and don't know what to do with them. Some can't be washed as have overdyed threads or fabrics. Have you run into any helpful ideas in your business and dealing with these old samplers that come from various locations.
Yes they only way to destroy bugs, it will halt mold but not destroy it. The things used to kill mo6ld are too harsh for the samplers. my hope is that at least the bugs will be gone and if there is no dampness it will not allow the mold to regrow. White vinegar kills mold spores but I'm not sure it would work on the piece....😍
Well I was just thinking the other day that I hadn’t seen a video of yours in so long and thought that I might have deleted your channel in error. So glad to see that you are back. Thanks for another great video.
Glad you enjoyed it! Ha I hope the videos will be a bit more frequent now that we are starting to get settled in. who knows what all will appear in those boxes hahaha 😁😍
I have newly discovered you on floss tube. I have purchased two of your patterns Alice Young and the Flight to Egypt. I have started Alice Young and am enjoying the stitch. I have been stitching since the 80s. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your beautiful pieces.
Oh my! I don't think I have ever seen anything as delightful and cute as your Mom's pin keeper. It is totally and utterly exquisite! Thank you so much for introducing her. With my thanks for your Channel and good wishes, Marion, North Somerset coast, United Kingdom.
Love your videos so much. I really appreciate all you share. I love Teresa Wentzler too. I am working on my fourth one Romeo and Juliet. I have finished and framed the Castle Sampler, one of the Fairies and Along Life's Way from Just Cross Stitch magazine. ( I got rid of almost all of my issues when I moved and wish I hadn't :(. All of those I've made for my daughter. I have two more of her patterns to stitch: Tapestry Cat and the English Cottage Sampler. Those two for myself. I love the blended colors. I only wish she had used the same symbol for the same combination of blended threads. I made up bobbins too and can reuse them but sometimes the symbols change. Just a matter of checking them out for a new stitch, but just takes more extra time. They are such intense stitches but so beautiful when finished. Those last two will be my last. Hopefully I can finish them. I am 71 and my eyes aren't what they used to be. Have to use a lighted magnifier. Can I say that you have the most gorgeous long and thick silver hair. Unfortunately mine has thinned so much I have to wear it short. Hope you had a good move. I know you will be crazy busy unpacking for awhile.
Oh wow, you did some awesome ones! I need to add the beads to my Fairy Idyll by Mirabilia and then I want to see what's next in a BAP (Big A.. Project🤣) I will need to dig through my TW stash but I have an idea of what I think I want to stitch next.... Thank you so much for watching!!! *hugs*
Thank you so much for sharing all of your wonderful "show and tell". You have a fabulous collection of family heirlooms. Love to watch you open up those old samplers from their frames. "So satisfying" as my grand daughter would say. Will you be showing what you do to clean the samplers and how to put them back into their frames once they are cleaned?? I hope so. Need the "end of the story." Thank you ever so much for sharing Birgit!!!
Do you wash these old samplers? And if so how do you do it? I really enjoy watching you opening up the frames to see what is inside. Do you find these at auctions? Would love to see your cats sometime. So glad I found your videos. I just love them. Bingeing on these older ones. I love the soft muted faded colors. So pretty!!! Thanks so much for sharing your family laces and history. So interesting. My maternal grandmothers parents were from Germany. Their last name was Biesemeier.
No I do not - well there are some like that I have from this century (1970s- now) that I gently laundered in lukewarm water AFTER making a test to see if the colors were not running. The old pieces just get a soft brush and a gentle vaccuming with the vaccuum using a micro suction attachment or my mini vac. I guess that could be a new Flosstube!! Thanks for the idea :)
