I love history, and I found this eisode fascinating. Your video just popped up in my feed, and I am thrilled. I like to let my imagination wander into the sampler and wonder about their lives. Thank you so much. I am going to watch all of the other videos to catch up. Looking forward to more videos. Thank you.

Hi Birgit! That you for answering my question about neat stitches. I need to just pay more attention and practice more. I enjoyed so much your sharing of the antique samplers. They were so beautiful. I too have learned much from watching your Flosstubes. I really enjoy them and the magazines! Oh how charming! I have some old Crochet booklets that my mother had collected. I will have to save them and keep them. Thank you again for your wonderful Flosstubes!

Thank you for doing this video. Loved seeing the antique samplers that you are going to chart up. Hope that they will also be able to stitch them on Adia. I can't see to stitch on smaller squares. Wish i could see to stitch on them.

As you were flipping through the old magazines I saw an ad for Best & Co , which triggered a memory. My grandmother purchased my sister and my Easter outfits from them each year, usually a dress with a matching coat. I particularly remember a blue linen number! Thanks for the memory!

Thanks You Birgit 🌸 Another encyclopedia of info .. and inspiring pieces. ❤ Common sense answers… And yes please no beeswax etc. I’ve been stitching 🧵 since 74 My intro to Samplers was through JoAnn Harvey , of The Examplarery . And I was hooked…♥️ I’ll be ordering threads from Sophie … they are lovely colors.. Look forward to Ada Davis :-)

I am so glad you commented on stitching reproduction samplers. I found out while stitching your Ann McFarlan recently that I can’t follow the original exactly, especially the mistakes. It is my first reproduction sampler. I bought it because I love the unusual houses on the sides. I’ve only stitched two houses but I’ve fixed two mistakes. I am using it as a pattern but will be changing several things. I always change something when I stitch a pattern. Did you say where you are moving?

Hello again :) I have only 1 sampler so far in the making with the Histoires de Lin threads (they are so gorgeous!) Sophie will be away from July through September I think- they take long vacations in France 🤣 Even Au ver a Soi takes the entire month of August off...just shuts down the company. 🙄 This is not uncommon for Europe as a whole. I was always told that Europeans work to live but Americans live to work. I am finding that more and more true :) I am so happy you will get the whole set for Christmas!!! Woohoo!

When stitching with Ginnie Thompson Flower Thread on 32 count for Tindale Sister, which I’ve not used before do you stitch with one strand? Such a beautiful stitch…I wish you well with continuing packing 🤗♥️🪡

I finished watching and so enjoyed what you shared. I have some old needlework magazines and enjoy the artwork in them besides the patterns. Such good quality compared to ads today. Where has delight in design gone!? Your Shepherds Bush chubby girl is beautiful, just beautiful. I hope you keep the mats as a testament to that age of cross stitch, but understand if you change it. I did a large Paula Vaughn piece and had it matted and will just leave it. Thank you for the information on the French floss dyer. I would like to get all those beautiful reds, roses, and pinks to use in a Quaker sampler. Miss Treachers’ sampler is on my reader. I adore the soft almost monochromatic softness of the colors. Have a good week!

I enjoy your videos very much! The way you share information on historical needlework and the beautiful pieces you show. It was fun seeing the old needlework magazines today. I actually have an old Home Needlework Magazine that my Mom had received. Obviously, it isn't as old as the one you showed, but they are so fascinating to see. The thing I enjoyed most about this particular videos was your beautifuly bright, sunny space, the gorgeous stitched pieces behind you, and the wonderful bird songs in the back ground. I could have listened to that all day long! Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much for your generosity! You share and chart your beautiful antique samplers and your lovely work. The herb gatherer is wonderful, I’m on the side of several other ladies who say, leave her in her matted frame, until/unless something happens and she needs to be reframed - unless she no longer gives you pleasure. I’m working on some commitments right now, but am looking forward to starting your pattern…and then buying a historic reproduction.

Another delightful and informative video. I will have to come back as I am only half way through watching, but chores call me. I do have a question though and hope to hear from you soon. I already purchased Jane Paton months ago I think. I see you have the kit now but I do not need the pattern. Can I purchase the wools and linen from you. I haven’t used wool in 45 years when crewel work was popular. I would like to try the wool. Will finish your video tonight!

Guten Tag!!!! I love your video and hearing you speak Herman is such a bonus for me. Both of my parents were born there and I have a lot of family still living there. I have watched all your episodes and love love your stitching! One quick question is that in this episode you showed a beautiful piece in your hoop that you designed “a home sweet home” sampler that you turned. Will this be available in you shop soon? I love the colors and want to buy the floss from Histoires de Lin. Also I will be going to Germany this summer for several weeks and was hoping you can give me a few ideas where to get some German cross stitch pattern and/or kits.

I am passing that one on to my stitcher as she is faster. As soon as she is done with Eliza ( she stitches soooo fast! OMG) So it should be coming out end of May if all goes to plan.

As a lifelong hand stitcher and needlework teacher (I am your same age), I agree wholeheartedly with you about not using any conditioner on thread. Thread has “memory” thus straight off the spool it wants to curl, same thing with floss when beginning to stitch. The cure is to stitch slowly at the beginning of a new strand to give the thread a new “memory” to remain straight. For proof, just look at how straight the floss is when nearing the end of a strand. Thank you for sharing your great advice and education!!❤

Hi Brigit, You showed Hannah Ryder and mentioned how someone may have been washed. My question is with today’s over dyed fabrics do you still recommend washing before framing? I am finishing a lovely sampler on Seraphim fabric but on the website she does not say they are colorfast. I also washed a Tabby Cat Crème Brûlée to lighten the staining on it before stitching. And it did lighten a lot with just a short time in the water. I am very hesitant to wash her. I stitch in hand and always worry about that. I do wash my hands whenever handling. Love the leaf fram of your bright sampler. Also, your Shepherd’s Bush-I would keep the mats. It is very traditional Shepherd’s Bush with the mats. Besides it accents the curve at the top of the piece. Thank you Hugs, Teresa
@thewishingthorn
@thewishingthorn Год назад
Funny you should ask this, but back in the day when I worked in the stitching store I also helped with the framing and we did wash all the floss stitched pieces. Wool had to be blocked (a significant pain) but these days not so much. Like you, I washed linens with the intent to make them a little less blotchy. Threads not so much One way to color test is to use a damp paper towel and dab the piece, or better yet the unused remains of threads. ( I would be wary of dark greens, reds, and deep blues) if they come up clean it might be ok. However, if there is no real muck n the piece I would just iron it and not wash it. Back in the day when I helped with framing smoking was still the norm and the pieces were full of nicotine, that needed to come out.
