Flosstube #3 Father Winter, P Buckley Moss, and the original Tindale Sisters 1840 

The vintage samplers and items from northern Europe you show us are so very wonderful to see. I get so drawn into your presentation. I feel like I have been on a journey.

Wow! I’m so glad I had time to watch today. Learning about the old samplers was amazing. The last one you showed was so different from front to back (colors) it certainly demonstrated what sun and time can do. Seeing the way each was put in the frame was also a learning experience. I now my maternal grandmother or her forebrearers stitched, I remember a few pieces that hung in our living room, but we lost everything when our house burned in the early 1960’s. Thank you for the wonderful information you share. And thank you for showing the entire pieces the close ups. 😊

Buckley Moss Christmas ornament patterns years ago. Just started stitching them. Have always wanted to have a Christmas tree with hand stitched ornaments.

Hi Birgit, Love your family stories. I have a shadow box of my grandmother’s needle work. Some of your family laces would be beautiful and then you could write a letter for future generations to know the history. Some of your shorter edge lace pieces would make gorgeous strawberry toppers. I have some of the Anna magazines in crochet, hardagner and crochet. Just heard shoulder pads are back in style! See all those things we used to wear are in trend again. Haha! Thank you so much for sharing all your samplers. Mathilda is just a surprise. I of course love both but the bright is my favorite. The last sampler you showed (unframed) I gasped out loud at the difference in the color between front and back!! Both are equally pretty!! I could never choose! I also have that Father Winter chart. I’m so thankful I was watching this Flosstube, as I found the chart in a thrift store (charity or second-hand shop). It is rather faded and my impression was that it was typical 1980’s to 1990’s, all muted mauves and “country” colors of that era. If I ever get around to stitching that chart I was going to change up the colors… now I’m not so sure, lol!! Thank you again for the history lesson and sharing these historic treasures! Birgit! Amazing to see the old samplers come out of their frames. Don't you wish that they could talk? Love seeing the antique stitching supplies and patterns that you have collected. Just a great floss tube and I will be looking forward to seeing more. I stitched the "When this you see remember me" It was a fun stitch and I enjoyed seeing it hanging in our first home. Living in a smaller cottage with not as much wall space so it is safely packed away.

Thank you for the new unveilings! Such beautiful samplers! It amazes me that some look almost the same comparing the fronts and backs, but others have faded a lot. If they are going to be made into patterns, it would be difficult to choose between the sister samplers and the final sampler. I would chose the lower three colors for the final sampler. Your barn and trees are beautiful. They would look wonderful in a new frame. The lace pieces are so delicate and lovely. Thank you for sharing a family memory, even though it was not a good time for your relatives.

Enjoyed the unframing. So interesting to see them front & back and how the threads faded (or not). The Sister samplers are a favorite of mine too. But the last one with the purples. I think I would want to stitch it both ways! So pretty. Your collection of heirloom laces are a treasure! I think I would want to frame the somehow. The white lace against a dark velvet background to show the lace details! ❤ Your sons might not be interested, but if they marry...maybe their wives would be. Plus, it's family heirlooms! Priceless.

Hello! New subscriber! I just wanted to say I've seen lace collars displayed on usually black velvet (I believe to really draw the eye to the intricacies of the laces) inside of frames, almost like shadow boxes and people have them hanging a the wall! They are gorgeous and definitely catch your attention! I have also seen strips of lace also displayed inside frames and shadow boxes running every which way, even some overlapping. There could be many ways you could display those like that! I really enjoy hearing you talk about your family and the history of things. Not many people have the knowledge or experiences of life you have had, so yes, please do tell us more! I really enjoy that about you! As well as learning about all the other things you talk about and getting to see this and that! Thank you dearly! One more thing, I think Dover has some wonderful historical books! I have a few I bought when I was a young adult, I was really into the Amish here in the US, and I also have some of their older books I did buy back in the 90s, so these books I have go wayyyyy back! Dover Publications IS still around, as well! I found them under their name, I had to look! Same name I wrote in the previous sentence including the word 'publications' and there is THE website where they still sell many craft books, children's, etc! They really have some beautiful books, always have! It's heartwarming to see they are still around that they never sold out to a bigger company and that they still publish the same things! One of the very few companies that are actually still here today! Amazing!!! AND Buckley Moss!!! WOW!!! I definitely remember her!!! WOW!!! You do have some keepsakes there!

I had to stop the video and rewind when I heard you mention Miesenbach. However the Misenbach I'm familiar with is in Austria. My daughter-in-law's family has a home the area, however my son and family live in Vienna. Thank you fro sharing your needlework history. Beautiful and interesting.

What stunning samplers! I don’t know which version of the Swedish sampler I’d choose….perhaps the front but tough choice. Loved the history you shared & the laces are just gorgeous! What treasures!

Thank you for your fascinating history. I’m Portuguese decent and the Laces , Burda magazine I have one and I have tatting lace and some top sheets with embroidery and lace from my grandma, she taught Ed me how to crochet doilies with the finest threads . I still have my original one probably like 52 years ago since I’m 61. I also have my moms embroidered table cloths . I’m new cross stitch, but those samplers beautifully stitch. I would pick the top 3 floss threads with purple lavender as that is close to the colors of the sampler. That large sampler looks like maybe a horse in back house. I’m so amazed how well some backs stitched with no loose threads knots. ❤

The last sampler where you showed the two thread palettes, I think it would be fabulous to stitch a sampler in both of your color selections. It would be hard to select just one in my opinion. Such beautiful antiques! I particularly love the soft colors of the MJ Smith sampler. Have you ever seen bug damage with cotton threads? It was interesting that they left the linen completely alone while pigging out on the wool threads.

Maybe you know this already, but when you were opening Jane Richards I noticed the framers stickers said Dumfries , which is in south west Scotland! Very interesting.

I was holding my breath as you opened the samplers. I would not want that responsibility but am so grateful to people like you who makes sure they are preserved for time. I have a great great grandmother named Mary Jane Smith. That sampler is going on my wishlist. I also love the Swedish sampler. Both color ways are beautiful. I used to own all the P Buckley Moss charts. Can you believe I destashed everything at one point?? 😮 It was all getting to be too much. I do have Grandfather's House half stitched. I am trying to get as many WIPs finished as possible in 2023 so maybe he will come back out. Your barn scene is stunning!! It would look beautiful framed in something made of old barnwood. I took bobbinlace classes when I immigrated and know how many hours of work are in your box of lace. What a precious thing to own of your family history!! They would be so pretty sewn carefully to fabric and rolled onto a long spool. I am doing something similar know with a stack of lace bands I stitched. Happy stitching 🧵

You could stitch a long narrow piece with your family history or information and story of the lace then attach the lace pieces for display. It would make a wonderful family piece. Those bits of lace are works of art!!!! I have a friend who is a lace maker. It boggles my mind to watch her. I don’t know how she keeps track. I love the old magazines. I have a few that I like to look through. The pattern booklets are so cool. But those stencils are amazing! I can’t believe the ink pot is still with it. Love the old samplers. On the Sweden one, I would like to see it stitched with the lower, back threads. My question for you is this: How do you remove old tape residue from linen? I have several stitched pieces that were taped to the backing board, and I want to reframe them.

OMG just saw ANNA magazine! For a long time it was my only source of inspiration for cross stitch patterns. I like to go through them from time to time. I brought them with me when I moved from Poland to UK. I love your collections

I thoroughly enjoyed the ‘unveiling’ of those samplers. It’s amazing that they’ve been able to make it this far. I’m back to cross stitch from a 30+ year hiatus. As a young wife and mother the samplers didn’t appeal to me much then, but boy howdy things have changed! I love the overhead camera a lot. And I’ve enjoyed hearing about your life. ❤ till next time!
