This is the RU-vid channel called M0OGY. This is a Radio Hobbyists site dedicated to modern Citizens' Band Radio and also the "Good Old Days" of Retro CB Radio equipment. I also conduct 10 Meter Amateur and CB Radio equipment reviews and tests on the latest products to become available in the United Kingdom, for like minded Radio Hobbyists. Whilst reviewing equipment made by some of the large brands, I do this as a hobby only , as a pastime. DISCLAIMER : many of the products I purchase myself from Dealers, but some are samples from the product manufacturer........NOT that this alters my findings or opinions on the products in any way. Before you make your choice and future purchase , check out Reviews on RU-vid and Radio Forums like World Wide Radio Forum (WWRF) and Transmission 1.
Hi I’m new to CB one question I have should you use NRC with 0 squelch the manual is useless at explaining but often pick things up with interference then in scan mode get nothing as auto squelch and squelch seem daft
IME these antennas have better build quality, weatherproofing, more overly square coils, and sturdier magnet mount for those of that persuasion. It's not a magic stick that solves all your problems and endures poor installation and tuning but it should withstand more than others like Wilson or K40. I feel like their build quality has gone down specifically in terms of weather proofing, and their designs are old and they haven't put out a better product in decades. Feels like they take their customers for granted. I run a Bull Trucker Single on my 2022 Cascadia. Have had zero problems, doesn't come loose as often as the Wilson did, which can lead to increased resistance and blown finals. Wilson is a great antenna. This brand just does everything better than a Wilson. Most people don't want to run a full sized antenna with a full sized coil and they want super whiz bang performance even after mounting their stubby helical coil whip on some random piece of fiberglass mounted mirror bracket and running the coax pinched in the door jamb. Pay for a pro to do it right if you can't or won't and if you won't get it installed right you have zero right to review, offer advice, or speak of the quality of your poor antenna of any brand.
@@m0ogy Same goes for me. I haven't been on there for a while either l. Skip was great until August 2013 then I think that the sun flipped poles and skip basically went away especially for eleven meters plus a lot of other cb'ers around my neck of the woods lost interest about radio communications.
Hi Dave,,,I have 3 AT 6666 originals from 2017 and never had any problems with them, One as a home base and two in mobile using a 9-foot s/steel antenna ... Looking at a 6666 pro....thanks
G'day Dave I have one of these 6666pros and a tyt9800 which gives me 70cm,to 15m using two cheap and cheerful little radios which I've put into my work van. Using 3 antennas and a AT120 atu I've been able to cover the lot. Happy as a Dingo in a kindergarten .
I bought a b501p years ago by mistake, didn’t realise at first it was 24v so sold it on. I still have the 12v b550p version, great little amps. I enjoy a good old shack tour, cheers Dave.
Thanks Neil, I bought that 12 + years ago, then last week decided I needed a sort out and to find a proper PSU for it, I was asking around, looking at modern stuff from China and this was in Sheffield on Ebay, it's a proper high end British manufacturer and I bet it would be well over £500 new, I managed to pay in two figures for it (just) , so well happy. As soon as you turn the pre-amp on or TX the big auto fan starts and shuts of automatically. I remember the B550P and the smaller B300P. I read on-line Zetagi had gone to the wall this year. Such a shame as I prefer their amps to RM ones. Dave 🙂
@@gtretroworld That's the problem, who would of thought the Giant of Amateur Radio accessories MFJ would close this year too........I think their antenna analysers were superb , a bit hit and miss with some of their other products granted.
I got rid of our cast iron gutters over 30 years ago, not many left on English houses now. I have two wire antennas up, but easier to plug it in the AOR🙂
Hello, not as much as the 30KG one above it 🙂, the Zetagi is a B501P, it runs on 24V-28V, so half the amp draw of a 13.8 volt device. It says it uses 15Amps at full power. The PSU can provide 31 Amps, so Boss of the job. I would say 250-300 watts FM at a guess, I need to get a power meter and my 1.5KW dummy load on it, I'll properly show a video when I do. I think we all know Italian amp watts are far more than normal ones.😂
I have the previous model ATS 120 and it has one of the best RDS FM reception of any radio that I have. Mine has a built-in LNA that I learned about on another channel because the unit I had did not have any instructions. The bottom rubber button double tap to use the LNA which will appear below the BT when it on. To get the RDS to work you have to disable the RDS on in the menu opposite what it reads (translation problems). I plan to upgrade mine to the ATS 200 soon. The FM stereo only really works with stereo headphones or stereo external speaker. 73! Have a great day!
Thanks for your findings and all very interesting. I guessed the stereo sound would have to be external, somehow. I think you will like the update to the ATS120, it has added AM air-band capability.🙂
It is good but if you want a really amazing radio for FM in every way buy a cheap TEF6686. One of these will blow your mind with it's sensitivity and selectivity and super fast RDS decoding plus SW LW and MW reception is also excellent
I added a single 12 Volt Fan sold by President to the massive heat sink, and I am happy to report, it made a huge difference in operating temperature ! Otherwise, even for short uses, the heat sink would get very hot ! Nearly to where it would burn you ! That and had to install my own 3.5mm (1/8 inch ) mono jack to use for CW. Otherwise, only having it for a few days, it is way above any of what are now known as export radios ! This is truly in a class by itself ! IMHO ! BRAVO ANYTONE ! Note : There is also one branded under the Radioddity name under model Q - 80 ! Believe they are clones ?
Just bought the Radioddity qt80, i understand its the same radio. How can I adjust the SWR's? No matter what antenna I use the radio displays "high swr". Not having much luck finding the info on the web. Thanks
Honestly I can't fault it, I try and show as many brands as I can and do it in an unbiased way. The videos seldom lie and that's why I try and do two way contact videos too. This currently is less than £200, you were paying more 30 years ago!
What is the difference between the Radioddity QT60 and the QT60Pro? I have just bought a QT60 from the United States Amazon as the QT60 is not available in the dutch amazon store. And yes i had to import one which costed me a lot of money. The mod for 11 meter was snipping a white wire and moving over a jumper. Is the QT60Pro also white wire snipable and moving over a jumper? These Radio manufacturers are releasing lots of radios and bringing more out for people who have the money. TBH I can't keep up no more!
The PRO is an updated radio in a shorter chassis, you can't keep up with the new radios ! 🧐, try my hobby of Reviewing the products, it seems as there is at least one new one a week currently, the hobby must be strong, or manufacturers wouldn't invest their time and money. cheers Dave 🙂
I have an Anytone 5555 which i bought quite awhile ago and it came with the ukfm programmed and had good contacts on 12m,11m and 10m......this particular radio is good if you want a few hf and a vhf band i.e. 2m while out mobile..nice review Dave, cheers from Kent.
Thanks for your support Roger, this radio is an upgraded model (check out mostypostie1 comment below for the full details), it really is a cracking radio 🙂
Thanks Dave, I'd like to install my Sirio Monsoon for 10M Ham use, as my Vortex Quasar Q82 is optimised for 11M use and looking at the video the VSWR is a bit high. I may just install my Z match for the tests. Cheers Dave 025.
@@m0ogy nice one dave I'll have to wait as my wife as wrapped the radio up for my Christmas present lol. So I'll be watching all you videos on the radio ect
Here are the changes in these new "short case" radios, compared to the older versions: - No more VFO RX step muting - CTCSS TONE readout (Hz) and CTCSS scanning. - WX RX, with VHF RX VFO from 136-174MHz FM. - Channel overwrite issues of the old radios, fixed - LCD dimmer control - VOX improvements (VOX.SPK and VOL.PATH) - will support digi modes via the mic socket just like the 6666PRO can. - CW mode - FM Dev 2K/4K - SSB TX Bandwidth 3K/4K - AGC Fast/Slow - 100 memory channels (up from 6) 73
Thanks for your kind information. You certainly know about these new radios. Are you in the Trade or an RF Engineer mostlypostie1?. You have helped the channel out on a few occasions now, which I thankyou for. All the best, Dave M0OGY🙂
true but i feel like cb/10m radios is a small market now so keep it all compatible with a 4pin mic dont make people spend more for adaptors. the anytone aries 2 does 4 pin with channel buttons so 6 pin is not needed even .
I used to have a CRE-8900. I had DTB Radio up in Pennsylvania to tune it and ran it in my mobile and hooked up to a Sirio Antenne. I found the QT60 on RU-vid today and I ended up finding out about the QT80 (80 watts)which no jumper wire to cut but move the jumper pins over one slot to get 10,11,12,and 15 meters.
