I get feweer modes and seaspn focus but I think it should have been a typical multiplayer game with mroe modes but still the seasons balanced across modes of content. I had thpughts for a reverse foam maze, traps, chemicals, surfboard race, foam building contest, a bath map/small perspective map by launch. That's how more depth I thought up the game didn't have. XD They made a business model first game, an ok set of mechanics, two game modes done before yet I came up with more foam based ideas like a proper developer would put effort into thinking outside the box with. The hub could have been cool like PS Home in a way. The live service timing. It needed more convincing ideas not a reskin of the same ideas ONLY that it offered. Which is why I said the other ideas is more than just the bare minimum they offered. Also gameplay or map changes matter. Moving maps are cool for strategy. Splatoon had Salmon Eun or a handful of maps or ranked or territories being more cool ghen you'd experience in what Halo 3 I remember a territories mode I think so years ago. Besides Deathmatch. Thats 3 games. Only played 1 online not 2 or 3 so don't have much reference other than what people talk about. Qhile COD had many but most play Deathmatch to jump in quick. The surfboard was a bit awkward I found in footage to pull off for wiping people out, hence races instead made more sense. Also felt like a PS All-stars kind of different but not as compelling for taking out enemies type mechanic. Pulling audiences away is hard but when they didn't even really put a lot of cool ideas in I was just going hats the point. At least as a singleplayer looks at gameplay type of viewpoint I have. Not other systems. Like Diofield Square published games to me sucked and lacked gameplay depth. Splatoon went from Tofu with ink to stealth travel, jump, use guns to grapple (Splatoon 2), reload and more with the ink and level design.yo me that game was excellent and one of the best solo campaign puzzle platforming with guns type experiences since Portal. Square wanted a Splatoon clone yet the studio they published it for put no effort in distinct ideas for gameplay just basic ideas and money rolls in like they didn't even try.
I truly cannot fathom why make this game a Playstation exclusive. It also should've been multiplatform and free to play. If it ever comes to Xbox, I'll give it a shot. 🙂
I think you're the only person who mentioned the single player of this game. I didn't even know this game had a single player until I watched this video. So basically, the game failed because Square Enix does their typical Square Enix crap.
I think one thing you're missing in your conclusion is that with everyone making live service games, it's a cut throat competition for everyone's time. When it comes right down to it these games have to convince players to hop off their multiplayer game of choice that they already sunk 1000s of hours on, accumulated a treasure trove of cosmetics and where their friends are easily found unless they too decide to cross over.
That’s a good point, another thing with new F2P games is a lot of players who aren’t falling into the micro transactions don’t really have anything to lose if they switch back to their original game, that’s why payed games are better at manipulating players since people know what they spent to get that game and how much it’s worth to them
@RyanRhino essentially the sunk cost fallacy. It's also why I take great issue with freemium games implementing battlepasses that you can't complete unless you grind every day, from the first day of the season all the way the 31st of the month and then expect you to do it all over again the next day. It's an annoying attempt to monopolize my time that actually backfires on me vecause once my streak is broken, i just quit the game feeling like i won't catch up to the next event
I got this game for free shortly after it came out, and I just couldn't be bothered. I love splatoon, but this just seemed like it didn't have as much heart as the splatoon series
Nice vid, thanks for sharing your perspective on this game! It looks unique but I have to say the marketing did nothing to differentiate it from Splatoon for me so I never played it even tho it was free on PS+ Also, I vote that influencers now say "chill" instead of "unalive"
Yeah they should’ve really marketed this game more for how unique the foam is in combat and how the Foamstars’ weapons differ to other shooters because that first announcement trailer made it look like they were going straight for Splatoons throne
Made it an exclusive, live service game, horrible microtransactions, AND still put an intial price tag ($30) on it. Glad they gave it to us free on plus and Im one of the few fans of the gameplay but damn square when will u learn
For now I only had plans for 2 other video essay ideas, one about why shiny hunting in Pokemon SV is fundamentally flawed, and another about the weird history of Super Monkey Ball remakes/demakes, I would want to do more topics similar to this video but due to college and stuff I’m pretty limited on time and am kinda forced to choose the top 3 I wanted to make videos of most
I just bought one of those random $20-$40 capture cards you can find anywhere on Amazon and have been using it for years, it’s good enough for a 720p-1080p quality video without going over budget, definitely recommend those for newer creators
@@RyanRhino Do you know what it was called? I just bought a byalabaxer for 20 pounds and it awful. Do you use OBS and does the TV your using make a difference
It didn’t really have a name but it was one of those basic rectangular capture cards with a USB port and input and output HDMI ports, I also use Steamlabs OBS with the capture card but I don’t think the quality of my monitor changes the quality of the capture card, it’s just whatever I change the bitrate to on my laptop that makes a difference
Omg bro i feel your pain.... The exact same thing happened to me with the doduo... Right when mine spawned i rushed forward but a dodrio ran into me and the shiny doduo despawned-
I think watching the shiny just casually run away from you is worse than killing one, like I couldn’t even do anything to get him because every other pokemon was barricading me 💀
@@RyanRhino yeah i agree, because when you kill a shiny pokemon on accident, at least you had a chance to even encounter it. When a shiny pokemon runs away from you though you never even had a chance at all which feels really bad. Hunting pokemon like doduo/dodrio, rhyhorn, cyclizar and varoom/revavroom is hard because they run away so fast
