I guess that's why I wasn't really as impressed by furry road. I watched it on a 24 inch screen. I think it was in stereo, but still a 24 inch screen. Same thing happened with Avatar, except it was even smaller. This makes me wonder what I missed with Pacific Rim.

This movie did it for me, felt organic, it felt like I saw a little girl grow up in a savage wasteland and when she grows up it looks like the same actor ive never seen that in a film, mind blowing, it chapter 2 and terminator dark fate had terrible deaging effects, this movie took a giant leap forward. I really felt the world and held in my piss for 2 1/2 hours, i feel like dimentus was good not great but im also not a huge Hemsworth fan but can he make it epic? This movie is great i just have minor nitpicks and why are the special effects worse than fury road i mean that movie is 9 years old.. didnt understand that downgrade and the music was dry in this one, but you hear engines roaring and the desert quiteness or loneliness its kinda cool idk

It doesn’t feel complete when leaving the theater after Furiosa. When I read your title, it resonated because there was a very subdued feeling when we leave the theater. There is not a feeling of victory, and that might be because of the credits sequence which tells us that the movie we just watched was not the end. Also, I would have preferred a romance over the gore. I haven’t finished listening to your review…

I meant my previous comment as a stand-alone. But now that I’m in this thread, there definitely is a change in the theater experience. The “chillers” of the ‘80s aren’t a thing any more. I see people bring blankets to movies with recliner seats, but these aren’t necessary any more. Great points about the economics. We just don’t have a lot of cash to spend on entertainment right now in the US.

I'm sorry that you've been going through rough times. I hope you feel better soon. I think this topic is so important. Often times, people seem to think that seeking media where bad things happen is wallowing or approval or something like that, especially with the whole "problematic" discourse that implies enjoying dark art means you are endorsing those actions in real life. I think you really nailed it. I have heard the argument of privilege as the reason one can enjoy things like this, but it's not really the case sometimes. People who have gone through very traumatic things and live in fear constantly enjoy horror too. Often is the extremes contained within these stories that helps you process what you did go through. Knowing that you survived as well. Knowing that THIS TIME you can just turn it off and make it stop... Even something as simple as feeling better because things aren't this way in real life. Art is there to help us feel and wade through the entire range of emotions humans can have, not all human emotions are pretty, they need to be felt too. Once all the bad vibes are felt, you can start feeling good ones, pushing them away doesn't really work. I'm rambling but... yeah, good stuff. Thank you for sharing.

I couldn't help but imagine the interior life of the kids. If you're born into a world where people are put in ovens and that is considered normal, what does that do to you? And what damage will that go on to do to the world? As I was growing up I was shocked to realize meat came from animals and insects werent "weird little people" but just pests to be disposed of. It made me think about that a lot. You can say, screw the kids, they're evil... but when I was born, did I have any say in just where I'd be born? No. I just coalesced around a clump of cells in a random part of the universe. Normal was a roll of the die.

@@curtisreviews5880 No problem. BTW I also still eat meat and kill insects where needs be, though as I learn more and more about animal consciousness research which is currently being done, the results are a bit alarming, especially for farmed animals such as cattle and, not least of all, octopuses, which are highly intelligent, curious and engage in play (as do bees and of course many other mammals).

Thanks for the comment! I’m curious what you like more about the book (what does and doesn’t work). Personally, it’s that the actual ideas in Dune are implemented better in a condensed and visual experience that the two movies have captured more efficiently. Does the novel offer a far more cerebral and psychological experience? Yes, but I would argue that Herbert’s writing, while innovative in many ways, still falls into the territory of being too dry at times. I found myself getting lost sometimes with what was going on. Now, big but here, I haven’t read the book a second time, which I plan to do in the future. I am looking forward to see how fresh eyes will help me reinterpret my initial impressions. Though with how much the movie nails the visuals, it will be hard to remove Denis’s adaptation while reading and “seeing” Herbert’s words on a reread.

@@curtisreviews5880 i think the movies did a poor job in explaining things like the spacing guild and their power. Even the Emperor is afraid of the Navigators. This was better portrayed in the Lynch movie funny enough. What a mentat is was never explained. Beside his Bene Gesserit training, Paul was also trained as a Mentat by Tufir. I know these are just little details and maybe not so important for the average audience of the movies, but i felt it should have been in it. Some people i know even thought that Spice was used as fuel. Maybe Villeneuve will show us more in Dune Messiah.

Excellent comment here. While I think they covered a hefty amount of the lore and world building, there’s certainly a lot from the novel mishandled. Like you said, I imagine if Denis was willing to swing this hard for the fences then Dune Messiah may be even better than Dune Part 2.

The movie was visceral and gritty, and added more to the fire with my obsession with Kristen Stewart. As a lesbian it was refreshing to see a story centered around the characters and their choices, with their sexualities simply a part of who they are rather than front and center. And the sex scenes were fantastic, focused on the experience and the intimacy vs a gratuitous showcase of lesbian sex shown from the male gaze. I saw it once in theaters and definitely want to see it again. I'll likely buy it once it's released.

What do you think of Ethan's movie without Joel vs Joel's Macbeth from a few years ago? I agree with most everything you said. The Coens like diametrically opposed main characters. In Lebowski you have the two stereotypical types of boomers, the hippie and the ptsd-riddled vietnam vet and we get to watch their philosophies clash. I feel like this was an attempt at a gen z version. The trippy interlude things were annoying. For days Cortney and I kept thinking of ways that each scene could have been funnier, and like you said, not a good sign. Pedro Pascal being a guy who collects famous penises is such a hilarious concept and I'm bummed the movie wasn't based more around that. Didn't hate it or anything but should have been so much better, had all the potential in the world.

@@curtisreviews5880 THE ZONE OF INTEREST movie. Here are my thoughts after just watching "The Zone of Interest" and coming home. I had heard about the movie and watched many reviews. I had even heard about what the director said and felt he just demonized Jews while making a movie about the Holocaust and thus proves he is an ignorant fool. But I figured I must see this movie as it isn't maybe even about the family and more about the culture. So I went to see it. I was pleasantly surprised for the following points: 1) The father is damned. How? He stands to process the Jews from the train and thus is doing the work on the days that matter for a death camp called Bergen-Belsen & the general concentration camp of Auschwitz. They don't show it, but then the reason must be that they want to show you the idea of not damning him. You saw nothing. The director tipping his hat to his hate, so to speak. 2) The wife is damned. How? She finds a diamond in toothpaste and wants more. Why? Because in the processing there is very little the workers are allowed to take from the Nazi state as all is categorized and documented. Stealing from the Nazi state a diamond is her crime. She wants to do it more as taking toothpaste will not be cared about with the Nazi state and she knows the diamonds are untraceable anyway unless documented by being found by the workers in the camp. 3) The mother-in-law is damned. How? She realizes a woman is suffering (a Jew) who out bid her in an auction and is not worried about her. She shows no caring for her or any of them (Jews). What she hates is the burning of human flesh, the noise, and the proximity of it all to her personally. She never voices a concern for her grandchildren and their safety or upbringing. These are the three main characters and they all are damned. They are Nazis; they should be damned. Do all people who view this movie get this message? No. Some may think only of how they existed in a moment and chose and performed based on the stimuli that affected them. Of course they did. Don't we all? What is the lesson of the holocaust? Let us look at facts in regards to Triblinka and learn the lesson of the holocaust. In 16 months, 68 Germans with the help of 360 Jews slew over 600,000 Jews. The field had some evidence of buildings having been there. Nothing would have been known of the facts of Triblinka had not the Nazi state kept meticulous records of their accomplishments. What is the value of this movie? It does not show anything that would damn them. You only hear of the suffering and killing and know this man is in charge of all of it enough to be promoted to improving efficiency in all Nazi death camps and concentration camps throughout all of Europe and efficient enough to be brought back to the largest and most famous death camp and concentration camp in the history of the whole world: the death camp called Bergen-Belsen & the general concentration camp of Auschwitz. History records that the Nazis in trials after WWII and over the radio in South America while still free abroad after WWII stated aloud "Six (6) million was not enough." This is significant. It means the Nazis did not care about the fourteen (14) million killed in the holocaust. Why should Nazis care about slaying Poles, gypsies, and dissidents in Europe against the Nazi state? The HONOR and the GLORY of the Nazi mindset was in killing the people of Yahweh in large numbers. Americans today are now being asked in universities throughout our great land and through the speeches of the Democratic politicians within the Senate and Congress whether they will be antisemetic or if they support Israel. I find it absolutely amazing that the impetious for this question was Palestinians beheading Jewish babies or male children, burning alive Jewish mothers, and the fucking of Jewish female minors in cars as they drove them to Gaza Strip. It is abhorrent and explains why Yahweh's Holy Bible states upon Palestine being whole it melts in Isaiah 14:28-31 which is a time when Anti-Christ is identified for the whole world to know and this text states "None shall break rank" meaning Anti-Christ will melt inside Palestine whole not long after it is made whole per the text. Yahweh then declares in the Holy Bible He will destroy all nations off the face of the Earth for all nations will have been against Israel per Zechariah 12:3 and Zechariah 12:9. Favorite World War II Movies 1) Amen (2002) #15 2) Life is Beautiful (1998) #25 3) Notorious (1946) #26 4) Schindler's List (1993) #27 5) Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) - Spanish with English caption #30 6) Midway (2019) #31 7) Come and See (1985) - Russian with English caption #38 8) The Sound of Music (1965) #69 9) The Wind Rises (2013) #100 10) Darkest Hour (2017) #104 11) Secrets of War [Oorlogsgeheimen] (2014) - Dutch with English subtitle #119 12) Dunkirk (2017) #162 13) Hacksaw Ridge (2016) #253 14) Saving Private Ryan (1998) #256 15) Grave of the Fireflies (1993) #321 16) The Zone of Interest (2023) 17) The Grey Zone (2001) The Zone of Interest (2023) is not on my top 360 favorite movies, but it was a fascinating look at people living their lives and raising their kids near the most famous death camp and concentration camp: the death camp called Bergen-Belsen & the general concentration camp of Auschwitz. You could believe the trailer that is is just about wanting the best for your kids. How do you like that spin? Listen to the director compare Jews living near Gaza Strip to Rudolf Höss while accepting awards for his movie and you wonder if his mother had her genitals burned by Palestinians, his baby brother's head cut off, or his younger sister raped in the back seat of a car as Palestinians drive her to Gaza Strip for nights of fun at least more than a month, if Jonathan Glazer would change his mind.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME SOME ASPECT OF WHAT ANTI-CHRIST DOES THAT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA HAS NOT YET FULFILLED??? The Anti-Christ absolutely must fulfill all Anti-Christ things before being identified at the top of Mt. Zion per Isaiah 14. We will squint our eyes and say, "This the man who shakes the whole world? He shook merely the region of the first." per Isaiah 14:16. None shall break rank when Palestine is whole per Isaiah 14:28-31 for Ahaz means "he has grasp the ten" and they shall reign with him for one literal hour. Barack Hussein Obama denied the desire of women by not having the cheating machine work for Hillary, but the super delegates all voted for her before a Democratic person could vote in the primary, so she thought all good. The cheating machine did work for Joe Biden, six states frozen in the general election and nobody checking over a black woman's shoulder during the recount so even that was utterly suspect, so we live in the end of an image of his time with his VP and Joe Biden is so shady in his business dealing that he is in the pocket of someone. He came in with a Nobel Peace Prize. With WikiLeaks and an Arab Apology Tour, he turned the key to a bottomless pit and that's why an Arab Spring. We will squint our eyes at him saying "this the man that shook the whole world? He shook merely the region of the first (Middle East)" according to Isaiah 14 which ends with Palestine whole as we recognize him at the top of Mt. Zion. Yet during the Arab Spring we lost three kings in one month in Egypt, Libya, and Tunesia, which is Anti-Christ identification type stuff. We've had two times of him and he was ruined to prosper as with Trump when he had a cut off time the level of hatred and violence went up. Now in this image of his time Russia and Islam have grown in strength because the first two things Joe Biden did was cut us off from oil and open the lower border. The second beast from a false prophet (Muhammed) give their power unto an image of a beast. They have been burning down churches in Europe ever since flooding in there and they have been flooding into America too. CAN ANYONE TELL ME SOME ASPECT OF WHAT ANTI-CHRIST DOES THAT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA HAS NOT YET FULFILLED??? "Barack" or "baraq" when no English letters existed meant "lightening" in ancient Hebrew and that term "Barack" is associated with end times, last days, of great tribulation in over 23 places in our Holy Bible. I don't think Putin and Xi will want to prostrate five times a day for seven years towards Barack Hussein Obama. By the mouth of many witnesses a thing is established. Habakkuk and Ezekiel speak. Habakkuk 1:9-13 "All come, Hamas, assemble the horde of the east, gather the captives like sand. Mock the ruler, and their judgment a joke, laugh as all strongholds become rubble, seize them, then pass through like the wind, pass through guilty by the strength of your god. From of old Yahweh, He is the god Holy, who died? Yahweh, the appointed judge, and the Rock will establish the judgment. The one who was overcome is pure. He sees the evil's power. Look at the evil. What do you see? Do you favor the ones who do wickedly? Are you silent when the wicked swallow those more righteous than them?" Habakkuk 3:11-13 "From the east the crescent stood at the heights, walking in the light of the weapons, the radiance of Barack (Husein Obama) from the thrust. There is indignation at his march on the Earth; in anger he trampled the nations. He went forth for the salvation of his people; for the salvation he's anointed. Now strike the head of the house of the wicked; lay him open from thigh to neck, commune with the Lifted High." Ezekiel 1:13-14 “for the living being was like a consumed ember, a consumed vision upright, shall he walk among living beings, fiery and bright was Barack, he had come out of the consummation. The living beings ran to and fro before the vision of Barack.” Ezekiel 21:2-5 "Son of man set your face towards Jerusalem, and speak against the sanctuary and prophecy against the land of Israel, and say to the land of Israel, "Thus saith Yahweh, "Behold I am against, and the drawn sword from the sheath, and cut off shall be the righteous and the wicked. ON THIS ACCOUNT cut off the righteous and the wicked, thus the drawn sword from the sheath, against all flesh south north, ALL FLESH SHALL KNOW YAHWEH, the drawn sword from the sheath, never to turn back again.""" Ezekiel 21:9-12 “Son of man prophecy and say, Yahweh utters, “a sword, a sword is sharpened and moreover laid bare, sharpened for slaughter the slaughter of laid bare Barack, for shall we rejoice at the son who rejects all the branches of humanity? For it was first given laid bare the handle sharpened and laid bare and set into the hand of the destroyer (Abaddon or Apollyon). Cry out in anguish, son of man. And my people, all the so blessed of God’s Word (Israel) are delivered unto the sword. My people! Thus I shall strike him at the thigh.” Ezekiel 21:13-15 “Test your community. Truly, also the scepter which despises shall be no more, declares the Lord Yahweh. Son of man prophecy and clap your hands together, the sword twice, and now the third time, the sword pierces, the sword for the great one as it pierces those who indwelt and surrounded them. The inner being (demons) weaken greatly, they were brought down to cause stumbling, All of them are at the gate (of hell). Give them to slaughter by the sword. Alas, they had made Barack (Hussein Obama) and caught themselves up for the slaughter.” Ezekiel 21:28 “and son of man prophecy and say, All utters Lord Yahweh, towards teaching towards this reproach, say a sword, a sword has been drawn and laid bare for the slaughter to consume Barack.” Do Job and Moses the earliest writers of the Holy Bible agree with this testimony? Job 26:6 "naked death before Abaddon, and nothing shall cover them over." Job 26:13-14 “by his breath the heavens are cleared, his hand shall pierce BARACK, a serpent. Behold ALLAH the end of his ways. How? A whisper, a word, hear the strength and the thunder. Who can discern?” Deuteronomy 29:25-29 "and they will say, 'ALLAH (the accursed), for they forsook the covenant of Yahweh the God of their fathers, Asshur (he who shall come forth) shall cut off they who were brought out of the land of Egypt.' They will come to serve another god (Allah), and prostrate before a god, Asshur (he who shall come forth) shall know to divide. And the breath of Yahweh shall burn against that land (Palestine whole - see Isaiah 14:29-31) to bring upon all a curse written in this book. Yahweh shall uproot the land in anger, fury of great wrath, to cast another land as it is this day concealed. Yahweh our God. Uncover the Son. For unto the last, this is the observance of all of the words of this book of law." Deuteronomy 32:41 “Truly I cut into Barack with a sword, for My hand shall accomplish justice, I will turn back the vengeance of My adversaries, to repay all those who hate Me.” Zephaniah 2:12 "Moreover Cush (horn of Africa black man) I shall slay by My sword." Imagine it. People in hell in less than a year thinking this movie gave them the right to damn Jews after Palestinians first beheaded infant boys in Israel, killed mothers and put oil on their vaginas to light them on fire so that Jews could see naked women burned in that specific location, and they threw female minors into the backs of cars so they could have sex with them as they drove them to Gaza Strip, but by all means damn the Jews as equal to Rudolf Höss for their anger at the wicked. Well, thank the religion that chooses the only man who puts you in hell early as anyone else chosen aside from Barack Hussein Obama and there would have been more time for you to contemplate Christ Jesus on a cross.

Maybe because the constant churning sound in the distance makes you feel so queasy. The drowning of that man for having an apple. (1) Moment 4:02 in some point of the film it is said that women working in the house as maids are not Jewish, it seems they are Polish, but not Polish and Jewish, while men working outside the house seem Jewish prisoners from the camp. (2) During an interview, someone involved said they didn't want the main characters to walk gracefully, but that they had a more animalistic gait, just a detail in contrast to the angelic and almost harmless air of this unscrupulous couple. (3) I was not expecting you to refer to Gaza. You could have shown the deeds of the terrorists of Hamas during their attack on October 7th, couldn't you? Accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza is an insult. It's like saying to the Allies during World War II: "Please don't bomb Germany because there are thousands of innocent civilians." If the Allies had done this, we know what the result would have been.

why ignore one genocide but remember another?? brain rot. we remember 9/11 right??? like 3,000 people died???? "never forget", right?? but do we talk about the 3.6 mil afghan civilians that are being killed by the US army STILL TO THIS DAY in post 9/11 war zones???? im interested to hear your two cents on the trail of tears, too. not a big deal right?? survival of the fittest right??? seriously put on your big boy pants and grow the fuck up.

Thank you for the great review. It's baffling that some people find it boring, but also interesting as that kind of proves the point of the film. Mark Kermode said rather than the banality of evil, this film actually shows you the "screaming silent horror of indifference". Also, if you are looking for recommendations: Shoa by Lanzmann and Son auf Saul are very good, for lack of a better word.

People are hyping this film too much. If you've seen Good, Cabaret, The Boy with the Striped Pajamas, Black Book, Auschwitz: The Nazis and the 'Final Solution, The Counterfeiters and Conspiracy (2001), there is nothing new here except good technique and a new point of view. All i learnt was that some military men took home Jewish gold teeth, fur coats and clothes. And that the wife was working class and didn't want to leave her middle class life. I'm sure if i was in the actual garden/house I would have been disturbed. The night vision thing pulled me out of the film, as did the present day shots of Auschwitz. The White Ribbon contains much more dread.

I always loved funny people. Though it was like 3 different movies crammed into one. You had it from Seths perspective AND Sandlers perspective. Then you had Sandlers romance story. It has 2 leading characters for 2 different stories with a massive power imbalance and a mostly depressing/nihilistic undertone. And I think even though people might like dark or deadpan humor, nihilistic humor is a bit more unnerving. Even though I thought itnwas awesome I can see how other might not like it
@curtisreviews5880
@curtisreviews5880 4 месяца назад
It’s no secret it’s a favorite of mine as well. You really made a good point about the film’s inherent nihilism. Rogen is a good foil to the darkness Sandler is trying to make space for but it still feels hollow in a way that can turn people off (which it definitely did when it released). I also was shocked when I saw that it was labeled as a 'dark comedy'. I feel like this was a way for it to compete in awards categories more effectively perhaps? It doesn't necessarily match up to other dramas of the year but perhaps producers thought it might win a best comedy award? I don't know. There nothing comedic about it at all. Its disturbing and triggering. I thought it was excellent at showing manipulation and how it can be used to control vulnerable people. It was horribly uncomfortable to watch but as a survivor of childhood SA, I felt it did a good job at showing common behavior associated with survivors. They often don't see their abusers as abusers, for some it takes years to even realize they were abused and even longer to process the damage it has done. Him crying watching his children graduate was especially moving. He has just begun to realize all that has been stolen from him. I think its brilliant but there are parts of the film that definitely give me the ick.

If PT was the most truly unique film you've seen then you must get out more. Without the visuals, the story would have been rated poor. If she had evolved like a normal child there may have been more than her nymphomania to focus on instead she evolves like a AI Robot. I GOT BORED when her character simply didn't develope into maturity which caused the film to go nowhere emotionally without any dramatic fulfilling narrative of conflict resolution. Glossy & fascinating visually, Interesting dark premise & concept with wonderful cast and acting, but a bit weak in terms of narrative intrigue and dramatic intensity that resolved or without any of the orgasmic pleasure & climaxes like those she enjoyed throughout the film! And why no sexual desires for her most humane & honest encounter, the Black guy? LOL! I just left the theater without feeling any lasting "emotional" impact & felt just as COLD AS SHE WAS towards most everyone and everything. After a while a child's brain becomes self-conscious about their social actions and that goat was just silly. SMH. Her 2 dimensional evolution didn't evolve the story. Nothing deep about this film. Just pretty filmmaking & surface bling. This was no brilliantly written, Terry Gilliam or Guillermo Del Toro cinematic gem

I actually agree with a lot of what you’re saying. Making Jerrod’s character into the heartless nihilist rubbed me the wrong way. The movie does lack some emotional depth, because the more I ponder it, the less I “felt” during the movie. A lot more clicked for me after my viewing but I also wonder how much this movie holds up past awards season. Still a great film. Thanks for the comment and sharing your thoughts 😎

Thanks for the review. I couldn't even watch this movie myself because the premise is too personal to me. My own father was 13-years-old when I was born by my mother who was 35-years-old. This was in 1991 and his parents didn't even consider the idea of it being abuse, they just treated as "he's a young man who can make his own decisions" so they enabled the two of them to be together. And they were together until he got too old for her and she kicked him out of the house--and it was her house because he had dropped out of school to take care of me while she worked, so he had no job at the time and little education--and I was stuck living with her for several years. Experiencing the kind of person she was as my mother, witnessing the way that her actions destroyed my father's life, the entire scenario is just irredeemably disgusting. I can't tolerate any depictions of it being anything other than that.

And knowing my mum was raped continuously by her 2 brothers at the tender age of 12 years old ! I will be as messed up as Georgie , bcoz should i hate or sympathies my mother ? I think i know why Gracy chose to leave her family for Joe. Did you see the big willy he pulled out from Elizabeth ? I think that was the main reason that triggers her decision to leave Tom and kids :) else why would the film show the scene with he's enormous dick
