What makes no sense is they didn't salvage the vessel. Comparatively speaking it's not that deep and larger ships have been brought up from deeper depths. It's only a matter of time before fuels and lubricating oils start to leak from it and create even more problems. Also any remains still inside could have been returned to the families.
Wat leuk om te zien. Ik was in Parijs van 1977 tm 1978, van mijn 18e tm mijn 20e en werkte 1 jaar als vrijwilliger en 1 jaar als "permanent" voor Accueil et Service. En heb daar zoveel meegemaakt en geleerd. De mensen in deze video ken ik niet, maar de mensen met wie ik te maken had zijn me altijd bij gebleven.

There is a remarkable video of this wreck that was recorded two weeks after it sank! The fresh, clear video shows the wreck and debris field in pristine condition, with passengers luggage sitting on the seabed looking as though their owners are going to drop by to retrieve them at any moment! Unfortunately, their owners lay entombed deep within the wreck from which they never had the chance to escape before the vessel was lost! The video captures the genuine human tragedy of the catastrophic event like no other, and forms an important historical archive of the wreck site before marine life and silt obliterated much of the details. It is a sombre film that captures the horrific suddenness of the event and the human cost. Neither the shipping line responsible for the incident nor the government regulator that allowed them to operate so dangerously overloaded would pay for the professional recovery of the victims entombed in the wreck, preferring to just leave them where they died. Their contemptible attitude towards the victims and their bereaved families tells one all they need to know about their utter lack of integrity and compassion!
