Stern is spectacular here, in a 1971 performance, accompanied very well by Previn. In his later years, Stern could often be problematic, but this is violin playing of the very highest order, delivering both stormy emotion and subtle colours, reminding that he was indeed one of the top 20th-century masters of the instrument. The Sibelius concerto is one of the best in the entire violin literature, and I find Stern unlocks the full scope and passion of the piece here.
I sometimes loose awareness and feel like I'm floating on the divine realms. Here full justice is done to such divinely inspired music by the performers playing in tandem.
This film describes Rita's appearance changes very delicately. In addition to changing the color of her hair and the shape of her forehead, Rita underwent surgery on her nose and eyelids, lost a lot of weight and had her molars removed so that her face went from chubby to fashionably long, with sunken cheeks which exposed her cheekbones. She once read that he also had an implant in his chin, just like Marilyn Monroe, which made his face look longer. After the changes and surgeries, Rita was beautiful, but before she was of average beauty, a chubby Latina. She must have really had dancing talent, because she wasn't visually impressive.
Back in the day, women like Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe they may have had a few little touchups, but these women were so naturally beautiful. It was unreal. I think Rita Hayworth had to be one of the most beautiful women and it’s so sad how a lot of these women were not, strong because of what they went through Ava Gardner was a tough nut to crack, and she did very well for herself, because she would not let anybody take advantage of her later in life when she was with George C Scott, he found out when he tried to hit her, she gave it right back to himunfortunately years of smoking and drinking ruined a lot of these beautiful women, but for their times they were really shining diamonds
Disturbing that many of these beautiful and talented actresses weren't treated well by men. Some of them were tough and they didn't let anyone take advantage of them. I like that.
