Dear All. First of all thank you @Nick for uploading this recording. I never heard this Rapsody before performed by Volodos. We are all priviledged and heavily spoiled for living in Volodos' era. Fortunately he makes us happy with his concerts and recitals. To Zurich he comes 1-2x per year. And he confirmed to me when I spoke to him in Spring that he plans to release new albums from now on every two years. Great! Schubert will be next. Also, I'm very much looking to his next recital with Rachmaninow and Scrjabin peices!
Jorge Luis Prats played a selection of the Cuban Dances by Cervantes and they are simply marvellous. Lots of spirit, beautiful melodies, I hope Arcadi will play them one day. With his beautiful singing tone, his superhuman technique, his insight into the spirit of the music this would be a treat to hear.
Nick Bottom I know people who know him quite well and I have spoken to him a couple of times but it’s not like I have his phone number or anything like that.
Lucky you! I wish I had the chance to do that. I talked to him a few times after concerts, but he always seemed a bit reluctant and in a hurry to go back to his dressing room...
nick, are you allowed to upload more recent recordings you may have of volodos? thinking of schumann, brahms and schubert, which he has been playing last 5 years or so, thanks.
He released a Brahms album last year of Op. 76, Op. 117, and Op. 118. He said he will record the last two Schubert sonatas by next year, and you can find him playing Schumann's Papillons and Humoreske on RU-vid, but unfortunately not Kindersczenen. I'm sure certain concert halls record his performances, but they seem to use it only for short promotional videos. May I ask if you know Mr. Volodos or his agent personally, Nick?
I've no idea. One of his agents once sent me a message to say that Volodos wasn't comfortable having recordings of him on RU-vid. I'm not sure that's true, as long as the performance is good of course, but anyway that's what the guy said. And no, Chris, I don't know any of them personally. I also don't think concert halls record concerts. That would require a sound engineer, which means money spent for nothing if they're not going to do anything with it. I'd also love a Schumann recording: Humoreske, Papillons, Kinderszenen, Kreisleriana, the Fantasie,... So many things he plays superbly.
Still the best performance of this piece I've ever heard even at a pretty young age. Do you happen to have a recording of Volodos playing Beethoven's Concertos No. 3 or No. 5?
