Hey Everyone,

I created my RU-vid channel for a few different reasons.

1) To video tape myself doing simple repairs/upgrades to my cars that l cant find any videos on currently or lack of information maybe.

2) Just for a bit of fun and help people in similar situations

Hope you all enjoy and if you would like me to do any videos send me a message and l will see if l can help you

Cheers
-Ben

@CaptRoverman 11 месяцев назад
Hey mate, Im not 100% sure but l believe the process is different. In the link below l have found some pictures (in-particular step 5 & 6) which shows different door hinges (I would have thought they were the same but apparently not). By the looks of it the hinge unbolts from the door side (not the vehicle frame) but again not 100% on this process. www.autoinstruct.com.au/manufacturer/holden/ve-commodore/door-sill-trim-removal/ Please feel free to share what you find out, l have a friend who l think still has a VE so l will suss it out too on my end when l see him next.

Hey mate I have a related question. I have a 1998 VT Wagon and the drivers side door is now super stiff at each open angle and it makes an almighty crack sound at each stage of opening position. I’ve added grease and lithium grease to all pins and hinges and even sprayed it down inside where that middle bar is. It seems like the middle bar is the culprit. Any ideas on what I can try, I replaced the electric window there a while back so I can take off the plastic door panel if needed. Cheers matey, love your work. Deano
@CaptRoverman
@CaptRoverman 2 года назад
Hi Deano, that middle bar in the doors can be a right pain sometimes. What l would suggest is undo the 2 screws that connect the middle it into the frame of the car (not the 2 screws that go into the door itself). push the middle bar all the way in (as like it would be if the door was closed) and see if the door still makes the crack sound when you close the door. There is also a small chance that the pins in the door might be stuffed as well and you might be hearing that maybe. let us know how you go with it.

Just a quick question because I have brought a new door for my car can you get the pins out without the tool
@CaptRoverman
@CaptRoverman 3 года назад
To be totally honest, l'm sure you could get the pin out with a similar size bolt but however you may run the risk of getting it all stuck in there. I have heard of people just using a bolt that fits through the guts of it and just a slightly big head or nut on them to pull it through

Thanks for this - someone on one site suggested removing the front mudguard (oh no...) to take the front door pins out. I've just bought the same tool but does the large fixed head of the remover ;pin go at the opposite end of the flared end of the actual pin itself? Thanks.
@CaptRoverman
@CaptRoverman 3 года назад
Hey Mate, I put the fixed end to the opposite end of the flared end of the pin. I cant remember my reasoning for this, whether it was because someone told me to do it that what but all l can think of is because potentially l felt maybe that as thats the end l am going to be hitting with the hammer downwards l didnt want any more pressure put on the thread end (which l am going to assume tho however that the pressures would prob be the same). Let me know how you go, easy stuff this changing the door over so lm glad this has hopefully help you out :)

@CaptRoverman
@CaptRoverman 3 года назад
Hey Nigel, 2 things come to mind that it could either be the horn button itself which if thats the case if its an aftermarket steering wheel you should be able to find a replacement part then or it could be when you connect the wires into the back of the horn they come out when you put it all back together as l know in my VL if l ever took the wheel off then back on again for what ever reason sometimes the little wiring clips would just pop off for some reason. hope this helps mate :) feel free to post pictures or videos how your works

@CaptRoverman
@CaptRoverman 4 года назад
Aidan Hall is this happening when you try and lock it with the key? The buttons or both?
@falscherbruce5522
@falscherbruce5522 3 года назад
Drivers door or all doors? The door handles body wear out where the lock barrel fits in after 20 years. Another possibility is that wiring harness to the door that gets bent every time you open/close doors. Wires break, so you can get dead loudspeaker or mirror as well.

You forgot one very important thing - where did the tooth (or teeth) from the broken cog go?? I replaced the same small cog which had a broken tooth when the odometer and tripmeter stopped during a long trip. At the time my speedo was still working, but when I put it back in the car (carefully) not only were the odometer and tripmeter still not working, but the speedo had stopped as well.. I sent it away to a repairer in Dandenong (Lonsdale St Auto Electrics) to fix it and they found that the tooth had fallen into the mechanism and had jammed it. Unfortunately when I got it back, it STILL didn't work. Sent it in again and when they tested it and sent it back it was STILL not working. $480 later I ended up with a used cluster from the local auto electrician that has a working speedo but no working odometer or tripmeter. I would suggest when doing this job that you turn the speedo unit upside down and making sure nothing falls out, shake it gently to try to get the broken tooth out, otherwise...

For those people looking for an easy way to get the speedo needle off you use a kitchen fork, the curved part of the fork gives you easy leverage to lift the needle off.

Ken W on either side of the speedo arm off there is 2 little black screws. Lm under the impression that most models should be the same but l have done this for a series 1 and 2 1989 - 1991 commodore. Theres potential that made later models may be slightly different. When l get home l will take a close up picture and post it soon :)

thanks for this. just did my VN ODO. Made it to 406,000 km before it stopped working. Tried to pull the needle off but it wouldn't budge but i was able to remove motor and board without having to remove the face. Getting it back together was a bit time consuming but possible (getting that screw to line up on the motor was the hardest as the face was still on)
@davidchristiansen4260
@davidchristiansen4260 6 лет назад
Done this a couple times, a great video but you DO NOT need to remove needle or speedo face. A small screwdriver is well enough to get both screws off the motor, just one on a bit of an angle. Saves a lot of time.
