Come along with me on my journey toward better health and a brighter future as I undergo weight loss surgery and discover the person I truly want to be.
I've enjoyed your video. I've been cleared of my insurance to have surgery I'm 5'3 at 274 my idea goal is 120 I hope and pray I do as good as you did. And pray that my health gets better with this surgery
So glad you are finding a good balance. Bad habits can come in small steps. Backing them off can also be small steps. Enjoy your travels. Please keep us updated.
They have "smart sweets" and "zero sugar twizzlers" so you can have that without it being so hard on your mental health. Think perhaps it's because you are trying to change your habits and diet..maybe if you just look for alternatives instead of punishing yourself, you'd have an easier time? I'm 2 weeks post op, and have zero sugar gum, and Jolly ranchers so that I can have something sweet, without the guilt.
I think out of all the videos I have come across in my research into bariatric surgery, yours are the ones I like the most! Thank you for sharing your journey and sharing all the information you have. It's very helpful and keeps me from being quite so nervous at what I'm facing! PS...I'm not really surprised you still want chocolate! It IS, after all, the Sixth Food Group, and quite necessary to our health! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Your candid, honest check-in is so precious. I'm considering bariatric surgery, and it's so important to know about the real struggles that happen in life after surgery. Thank you for sharing - the good parts and the difficult. So glad you're feeling better about yourself, and hoping you get to enjoy the life you're living while also stacking up the good choices, so you feel proud of yourself too. Looking forward to sharing the rest of your journey!
Thank you so so much for sharing your journey with WLS 🙏- I am researching it right now, and your content has helped me so much; it’s unreal 🙂🙂🙂 - and by the way… you look fantastic! ❤ … I love your PMA and outlook on life : it’s so refreshing 🌟 … keep up the good work 🙌
So glad things are getting better. Traveling is a new routine and you are killing it! Mistakes happen, but you bring me hope that we can bounce back! Enjoy your travels! We are rooting for you!
Just a thought, I've found most restaurants will let you substitute the sides of fries or rice & beans, etc for salad. Or broccoli instead of baked potato. It still may cost more, but at least you get what you need out of it.
Well done! RNY in Jan of 2003, yep.. nearly 22 yrs ago! :) To this day, if I drink any closer than about 10 min before, at all during or within about 20-30 min after any food = dumping. It could be that causing your daily issues? Am the SAME w/ chicken unless it's mixed with something, shredded. Otherwise, nope.. a no-go. Thankfully, same thing happens if I have any soft breads, pasta, rice, potato. All have been big 'ol no's from day one. Not that I haven't tried over the years, I'm thankful (as miserable as dumping syndrome can be) however, for the tool that keeps me away from my old friends. lol. That said, what saves money but not a lot are willing to do? I stopped buying any of the 'junk'. Anything processed. I don't (& never have, tho) eaten ANY fruits/vegetables. Protein, fat. When you aren't buying anything else, it's real cheap. Most of the time it's ground beef (or any ground turkey, chicken, shredded pork etc) seafood, bacon (lots, suuuuper crispy) eggs, 1c coffee, ice water, himalayan salt. That's it. Once in a while I'll have a little cheese or heavy cream (for coffee). The first week felt like withdrawing from the carbs & processed foods, after that... I've honestly never felt better in my entire life. Idk what it is they are putting on the shelves these days, but maaaan, it's bad. Mental clarity, depression lifted, anxiety gone, sleeping like never before.. energy, I can't explain it. Kinda' makes me mad just how upside down that food pyramid appears to be & keeps us addicted, buying & sick + the companies profitable at our health/expense. Bloodwork, never better either. Told a friend I'd try it for 30 days, what could it hurt.. well, it's been a year coming up. I have little to no carbs, same with sugar. If I'm hungry & out, I can find a plain burger, fish, bacon, eggs.. sugar free jerky, etc. just about anywhere. At home, if in a hurry, I can make some chicken nuggets w/ canned chicken, egg, pork rinds crushed up, a little cheese, then pop 'em in an air fryer. I can bake cheese slices into hard crisps (even make taco shells out of 'em) I think you're doing great tho & am envious of your adventures. Enjoy every second!
You are doing great, for yourself don't go back to bad ways,lm not at level to weightloss surgery yet,but l certainly don't want to go back to this.please stay on track, keep up with protein, you got this!!
So great you are traveling and having a wonderful time. When I travel I avoid gins by; cooking meals -grocery stores are my friend. I love going to Neighborhood Walmart or an equivalent. Some of the items I that help me to avoid weight gain is rotisserie chicken, cottage cheese, FF Greek yogurt, sugar free jello to mix with the yogurt (this is my one & only treat) jerky, ham & turkey slices, Joseph’s pita, canned tuna & canned sardines in olive oil, these are lunch items and a huge head of Roman and a big bag of spinach these are for salad. I also get broccoli and red peppers for vitamin C and calcium. And I often will get salmon too. All this gets me through the week with minimal take out and quick food prep & I save a ton of money and don’t gain anything .
Nicoleeeeee I was missing you ...❤❤❤❤❤❤ I had my surgery 3 weeks ago, I'm sooo happy to see you.... I think I'm doing this wrong 😢but your videos have been a blessing .... ❤❤❤❤ let me listen now to your video 😂
I just came across your video for having gastric bypass and is considering on having this as well. I just want to know what are some of the things that you can not absolutely eat or take at all when you're finally able to eat regular food, take medicine when you're not feeling well, or drink any type of beverages past 6 or 9 months?
5 months post-RNY and I've been eating in restaurants a lot more since summer started. The price of salad is my pet peeve! You can get almost any sandwich with protein for $15, but a really basic salad is that price plus an extra $10 if you want a piece of chicken on it! So excited for this update and happy for you going on this grand adventure. Good job trying to get back on track when you recognized bad habits were getting out of control. It's hard!
It’s good that you are being very self aware and recognizing the habits slipping in. Right now, your surgery is still steering the ship and you’ll often lose or not gain in-spite of those bad habits but the 2-3 year mark is when it often starts to burn you a lot more. That’s when it’s easy to gain. Most will gain back 5-20 lbs for every 100 lbs lost. So good to keep it in check. Same with the alcohol - which is even scarier. 1 in 5 RNY patients report alcohol issues by year two. Scary stuff! So the fact that you’re self aware and working to make strides to improve these things is fantastic! It certainly doesn’t get easier! It’s ways to slip - if you get back on track right away, you’ll do well. 18 years post op and the getting back on track quickly aspect has been key to my success.
Just some suggestions - look for some on the go protein that you can pick up at a grocery (tuna, hardboiled eggs, lunch meat, etc). The walking/hiking is fantastic, I wish I could get that many steps a day. You are awesome and I love how honest you are with all this. How wonderful that you are able to do your bucket list at the early age (40s).
have you checked in the candy aisle for SF options? I'm pretty sure I saw some SF red vines. The Russell Stover SF candies are really good. My favorites are the Pecan Delights and the caramel ones. I limit myself to just one or one serving (2 pieces) a day.
You are gorgeous! I'm at the very beginning of "the process" and so excited to complete the surgery. Your video really inspires me. I can't wait to get where you're at. Best to you😁
First I am going to tell you well done. Have you thought to check if you are intolerant to diary products? yes, beans, eggs, onions, broccoli can make our belly bloated. I have same issue with tuna. Pasta and bread as well. So no I m avoiding these products, eating gluten free and diary free.
Hi Nicole, I've been watching your journey, and so impressed and proud of your progress, and still proud in your honesty and vulnerability. It's so hard to eat well when you're not in your own space. But you can do it - I like the tracking idea. Can you track food quickly, even just a text/whatsapp to yourself, or something easy like that? Good luck! You can do this! Please give us an update when you feel ready - it's so heartwarming to see you fulfilling a lifelong dream!
Nicole, I found your channel about 3 weeks ago as I was in the finally wait for surgery. I binged watched like Netflix! I had gastric bypass 1 week ago and there are times I feel I can’t keep going and your honesty and openness and willingness to share the embarrassing things (I also struggle with constipation and hemorrhoids!) has been my lifeline!❤ thank you so much!!!!!!! I also cried with you in this video because we are so similar and I felt your pain to my core! I pray this last month has been better but if not know you have support here!! It’s not a fail, it’s an opportunity to reevaluate the why’s and the how’s and make a plan. Thank you, thank you for making this series!!! You may not feel like you’ve made a difference but you have to so many! (And will continue to even if you gain some back!)
Nicole, I absolutley love all your videos and your honesty. Especially on your 13 most embarrassing things, had me laughing because I could identify with most of your stories. I am still in the process of jumping thru all the hoops before I get my date of surgery. Hoping to have my surgery by October 2024, I understand you being upset with yourself for falling off the regular routine. Just wake up in the morning and follow what you know is right for you. Please give us an update, I miss your videos.
