Thank you so much! I absolutely hate writing essays, but it’s more about the how I always get lost when doing them or are lost for words. Otherwise, I think I’d enjoy it more. Technically I have the essay already written in my mind, but only as a concept and I have a hard time translating that into actual words. This video was a lot of help!
Recently diagnosed with adhd inattentive and now this seems dyslexia applies to me possibly. No cure I understand but explains a lot about some of the struggles in school and short term memory issues. Thanks
Thank you for offering this help to others. Let me just admit that I did text to speech and then would edit edit edit forever. But twice through college, I sent my rough draft to a writer and paid to have them edit and put it together properly. I know it was basically cheating, but I couldn't get it done in the amount of time allotted.
That video was good, I did not know about that software "Claro" but have you covered any software with word prediction? Because I'm looking for a a solution to replace WordQ 5.
Hi there! These sound very helpful. I have a young boy I am tutoring who has Dyslexia and I hope any of these hacks can help him. Tip: If the capital letters hack works for you -- write your essays in Capital Letters and Google Docs/Word has an automatic function that turns them into the normal way :))
My max was 800words and it took me 12 hours and that's because I had found all references and had all my taps open to making things easier 😂. I need like 2 weeks to finish a 2k word assignment no matter how organized I get before writing. am taking like 5 tea and coffee breaks haha, but now I can't cause am wearing teeth aligners 😭
OMG that made me laugh! I recognized myself, my kids, and the students I teach. I will show this to my students. Would you mind if I quoted you on one of my videos? I show students how to use tech to overcome difficulties with dyslexia. But tech is not a cure-all it doesn't change the way we think. This video will help me demonstrate a point to my students.
Absolutely! So long as you credit us, we are happy to be quoted :) Your channel looks amazing by the way! I'm not sure how I haven't come across it before! Subscribing now.
Hi! I am a newly diagnosed dyslexic adult and I cannot tell how incredibly helpful all of your videos have been for me! As a kinesthetic, highly visual learner, with some serious executive function deficits😅, your ideas and techniques have completely resonated with me - they make total sense to me. And the best part - they work! And I get super excited to try all of them out😊 For the first time, there is a direct correlation between the amount of work I put into my work/studies/organization and what I am able to achieve - the difference is astounding. SO A HUGE THANK YOU TO YOU! I wish you all the best professionally and personally. Please keep posting!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this comment Brooke! Sometimes it's hard to know whether I'm just 'posting into the abyss', but when someone tells me that the videos are actually helpful it just means so much :) THis was the boost of confidence I needed to start uploading more videos! More content coming very soon. Jemima
Hi Mari, I spent more than two years prepping for the UMAT (started doing practice exams at the end of year 10). For me, it was particularly difficult as not only am I dyslexic, but I'm spatially dyslexic, so I struggle to flip and rotate shapes (i.e. the entire non-verbal patterns section!). I ended up doing quite well, but in the end, I didn't need to use my UMAT score as the three universities I got offers from offered places to anyone with a 99+ ATAR.
A great explanation of how you leveraged the features of Writing Helper to support your essay writing strategies. I know of several mature aged students who are returning to formal study after many years and intending to use Writing Helper to tackle the writing process. It's one of those assistive tools that can benefit all students. Thank you for taking the time to produce this video in those hot conditions.
The tip about not writing out seqentially, made me cry. Thank you. I never realized how much I struggle with lists, with doing things in the proper order. This 'allowing' to write as I want, will give me such a relief!
Amazing video!!! I was looking for how to use a whiteboard to study and this video appeared! It definitely helps me a lot! thank you and hope your channel will grow :)
Thank you for making your videos. it has help me significantly with my dyslexic Brain. You have taught me more about learning with dyslexic than I have ever learned in school. In Just in a few videos. I wish I would’ve had these videos when I was younger. so thanks:)
Teachers and friends tell me I am articulate but I can't for the love of me write anything down. It really sucks being dyslexic, but even worse is the feeling that you are inadequate.
It really can get you down @Altair 007, I totally get it. I'm sure you have plenty of other strengths that will serve you better in the long run that being able to write an essay! At the end of the day, I'd always prefer to be able to speak to people and articulate myself than write pages of text. Hang in there :) P.S. Maybe you can try speech to text or get a scribe for your exams?
Amazing episode! Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm also fan of design podcast by Future London Academy. MY FRIENDS TEASE ME WHEN I HAVE DM CONVOS IN ALL CAPS. WAS STARTING TO THINK THAT I HAD SOME UNRESOLVED ANGER ISSUES I NEGLECTED TO DEAL WITH FROM MY CHILDHOOD.... THRILLED IT IS MY SUBCONSCIOUS UTILIZING A DYSLEXIA HACK! THIS VIDEO SAVED ME A FORTUNE IN THERAPY!!!! Lol 😜
I'm 40 and still back away from books even though everyone say work hard everyday meaning read I still don't no what I love to do or my purpose or talents is that normal
I know what you mean Matty. In my opinion working hard certainly does not = reading. There's still plenty of time to find out what you love doing and what your strengths are! Usually both go hand in hand. It's never too late! PS If you're looking for some more adult-type support, I have a few really good people I can connect you with :)
omg, I thought I was the only once who took dance breaks! it's so encouraging following ur Chanel, makes me feel like I'm not the only one! ( I'm 34 and this is my first semester of uni! and the struggle is REAL)
Hahaha definitely not the only one Kate :) Thanks so much for your comment! Uni is certainly a struggle.....I'm 1.5 years in out of 7 so at this point I'm just hoping to make it through!
For the Speech to text you can record yourself to if you were unable to pronunciation well which I have trouble that the speech to text doesn't pick up at times.
Absolutely you can @alecn2328. I record myself explaining things all the time so that when I can revise I can go back and watch myself. Your are your own best teacher!
Hi Jemima :) that was a wonderful video and nice hacks! I wish I have stumbled across your channel earlier since lots of your hacks are so helpful! Especially seeking the experts, I didn't realize why it was so much easier when a friend sat down and we discussed a topic together I could learn what takes me 5-6 hours in only 1 hour. I finally graduated as a doctor, but hopefully I will be able to incorporate your dyslexia techniques into residency. Thanks again !!
Thanks so so much for your message @coffee IV!! It's so exciting for me to hear that someone else like me has made it through! If you're up for a chat, I'd love to pick your brains and share experiences! Feel free to send me a dm through our FB or Instagram @dyslexia _demystified or Dyslexia Demystified Australia :) Would love to hear from you!
