Carving is about curves and speed.
It is pretty tough though. It’s the closest to ocean surfing, its both technical and artistic bringing a great feeling of pleasure, motion, and freedom.
Carvers maintain speed naturally without having to push even on flat ground.
- A simple, fast steezy line will take the cake any day -

There is a point in the carving where you can kick out the tail or the front, and you can actually kick two times to slow down even more. With more force, you end up full braking, and it won't be as good for the wheels so this mini brake trick allows for more adjustments without full stopping. It's easier to kick the tail of the surfskate since the positioning of the foot matters. It should be outside of the wheel base.
@DoubleOverhead
@DoubleOverhead 5 месяцев назад
When drifting, I kick out at the very beginning of the carve and keep pushing out the entire carve. In addition, I kick out with both feet simultaneously.

Thanks a lot Bro! The stand up slides are not really long yet but I will get there eventually. I road rashed my ancle doing a long stand up slide - ever since, I am practicing longer slides with gloves first. That way I can fall on my butt when having to bail :) Hopefully, by the end of this season, I will be able to do drawn out stand up slides - first the glove slides have to be drawn out though. Video clip of me doing glove slides coming soon. I already have the footage. I am riding the new BooyahBoards 10inch surfskate deck. The TUB concave and deck was developed for this kind of skating. Wheels are 65mm Metro Super Sport 85a - these wheels are sliding wheels. One of my all time favorite! They still offer enough grip even though they slide very well. Hookup is super smooth. Extremely long lasting and the rebound is excellent. Gotta try them Snakes some day though. I have a lot of Powell Peralta thane - love it! Cheers!

@@DoubleOverhead+1 great stuff here! As a Older rider I really am not interested in falling at high speed and also enjoy riding some hills, my favorite set up is flow surfskate trucks and wheels on a Earthwing Amazon, major concave and wheel flares and a kick tail, I can carve hard enough to get back up hill before running out of road and having to carve back, on steep hills you really need to carve hard enough to get the board pointed back up the slope before making the next turn!

@@DoubleOverhead 🤣 ouch, been there, done that! Eventually we all slow down and realize that speed really is overrated. And at our age we definitely don't bounce like we used to, and the scary part is we're not healing like we used to either. When one bad line, no matter how low we get in the slide, can incapacitate us for life it really is all about slowing down and enjoying the journey. All of my efforts these days are focused on attaining a level of skill where sliding (standies and shutdown) is no longer necessary... when I hear wheels honking and thaneing I can't help but give the grom some pointers in skill development 🤓 The best part is, the slower you ride, the more riding you get to do! I used to bomb a local run in minutes and hike for almost a hour, the hike is still the same but now I get a ride time almost 20 minutes! ❤️

Depending on the surfskate, it make end up wobbling more than the long board, but depending on the surfskate truck, pumping can get you just as fast as pushing once the acceleration is maintained until fastest speed. My Carver CX is the fastest one, but it doesn't turn as sharp since it's more a hybrid.

@@DoubleOverhead Actually feels fine to me installing the sidewinder with the manufacturers bushing tightness, which I though was pretty stiff to start out with. I was running my rear truck super loose to the point I was burning through pivot cups like you would not believe so transitioning to the double kingpin was very quick. Zefe this was my fist time skatin' a small slope like this. In addition there is a dangerous curb. Usually , I turn my head when carving and look where I wanna go. This slope was too tight for carves so I had to uses slashes in order to stall. It may look like I am carving but I am actually slashing. Of course it can be done much smoother than this. Hey man can you explain why the 21” wheel base is better for downhill surfskate . I bought a carver triton 32” cx and it sucks for down hill it doesn’t feel smooth more like a toy. It is good for catching fast speeds on flats . Or going fast downhill But I like smoothness of larger board and c7. I’m wondering if I should buy a vanguard loaded and change my cx from triton to vanguard and if that would work better for smooth downhill? My main concern with longboard is that if it gets fast it is hard to turn up to control speed o had bad accident going downhill on a longboard that is why I switched to surfskate downhill but wondering if longboard and surfskate is good for me .
@DoubleOverhead
@DoubleOverhead 2 года назад
Hey Sebastian, a 21'' wheelbase offers better flow, better top speed and is less prone to speed wobbles. But the acceleration when pumping is slower. When starting downhill look for a gentle & wide slope or start at the very end of the slope if the incline is stronger. Always make sure you are not going too fast and lose control. If a surfskate truck or adapter is used you can turn uphill as soon as you start feeling uncomfortable. The Vanguard is an excellent deck but really pricey. That is why I recommend test riding it before you make a decision. Riding is more about the action - not so much about gear. You can have lots af fun with a Triton as well. If in doubt look for a used longer deck and just use your surfskate trucks on it. Cheers!

@@DoubleOverhead thx , I actually started doing torque and bouncing side to side, it is definitely different than normal surfskating using back wheel and not using board flex.
