Hi Just an occasional look at the outdoor world from my personal point of view. A record of some of the things I try out and hopefully some information and entertainment for the viewers. I have been into 'Survival', outdoors stuff and Bushcraft for years but only now do I have the time and opportunity to practice it and hopefully pass on some knowledge.
Probably lighter than a Brunton Transit and the features approach a transit. Using with a tripod, no. It needs a no magnetic stand or post, I think they may be called a Jacobs stick.
I recently purchased some compasses that you can put on your wrist watch. Out of the 10 in the set six all agreed on North the other four were reversed. Do you know of anyway to reverse the ones that are reverse now? Really enjoyed your video like all of them they’re worthwhile and helpful and thought invoking
Hi Phillip. Now that is a tricky one! To be honest I just do not know the answer. If the needles constantly point 180 degrees in the wrong direction i.e. points south when they ought to point north then prhaps mark the cases so you know they are wrong facing compasses and use them If they are just erratic then I would take the pain and ditch or destroy them no one could use any of them to get lost. You could however gift them to your worst enemy but that is more than a little on the evil side. Hope this helps. Thank you for continuing to watch and comment. Stay safe. ATB. Nigel
Brilliant video Nigel. Thank you! I disagree with the start of this video! I have got lost in our backyard twice and once elsewhere on a dog walk. Both areas I know very well. The sun disappeared behind dense clouds and we had stumbled off trail. In all three cases any compass at all would have got us back fast instead of the stumbling around for an extra hour. I always carry a decent compass now on ALL hikes including urban ones. The can show short cut directions on return journeys!
OK Cat I'll go with that one especially in difficult terrain. Anyway glad you found your way back and you learned from the mistake so continue to stay safe over there. ATB. Nigel
I never put my money on the mobile phone compass,I noticed this in the beginning of those compass apps. Download a couple of them, and they gave all a different northern direction, but it can gives you a general direction. Atb Steve
Hi Steve. Thank you for watching and commenting once again. I was really glad to have the app but soon grew suspicious and now I use it just to see how inaccurate it is. Stay safe. ATBN. Nigel
Hei der. Takk for at du ser og kommenterer nok en gang. Kompass er kanskje ikke "sexy", men de er avgjørende for å vite at de fungerer som de skal. Hold deg trygg. ATB. Nigel
Top notch Nigel ! My android phone compass is also lacking in accuracy. I'll keep trusting my Cammenga & my analog wrist watch (for cardinal directions). Will be watching for your next mate. ATB !
Ciao. ATB
I've acquired my Breithaupt Kompass-I was Issued one during my military time- called CONAT. Baught it decades later ;-) It never occurred to me to doubt it ;-) I bought a cheap one to keep on my wrist. Cheap and good enough to go in the same direction. A big compass test is outstanding, should do that, that s true.
Hallo. Vielen Dank fürs Zuschauen und Kommentieren. Es ist immer gut, wenn man auf die altbewährte Ausrüstung zurückgreifen kann. Healt, Ihren „neuen“ Kompass zu verwenden. Bleib gesund. LG. Nigel
Thank you, sir another great video. With a lot of useful ideas in simple ways to do it. Do you remember we’ve got a language in common? That’s the reason I said that to use the word that you don’t understand and use words that I don’t understand. Take it easy appreciate it.
I made a round bottom bag like you did here for some of my equipment. For me that was a tough job to accomplish. I sewed it on a sewing machine and it was heavy canvas. It gave me plenty of problems throughout. However the finished custom made bag was sure nice to have. As always, lots of sound advice in your video.
My sewing is adequate and it feels good uses surplus material, particularly material that often gets chucked out like denim. The denim for the BCB stoves looked great. 👍
Hi JD. Thank you for watching and commenting. Just knowing a couple of stiches means one can make a whole load of personalised kit. Stay safe. ATB. Nigel
Hi Cat. You are right - sewing is one of the critical skills that ought to be taught to all children in school - it makes life a lot easier. Thank you for continuing to watch and comment. ATB and stay safe. Nigel.
@@pnyarrow kitty cannot do it at all. All the sewing devolves to me. I finally bought sail thread and needles a few years ago. Absolutely great for gear repair. All the best. PS just finished a five and a half hour hike with massive hills. Fun!
Thanks for the review, it's very useful. Do you know the purpose of the "reading lens or prism" located above the aiming line and how you would use it? Thanks
Hi Mike. I am really sorry I can't help you with that one. Until you asked I had not noticed it at all. I have had a play with the compass and can only surmise it is for examining very small detail on a map. I wish I could help more. ATB. Nigel
Hitting someone on the head with a full flsk is pretty effective at solving problems too! (LoL) Thanks for watching and commenting. Stay safe. ATB. Nigel
Hey Nigel thank you that is very helpful and something I will definitely be doing buy the way this is my new channel Mike Reed preaches the word of God
Yes it must be a copy but it works as well as the others I have and I have some good ones. Thank you for watching and commenting. Stay safe. ATB. Nigel
