As an experienced backpacker I constantly think back to my first section hike in the AT with horrible shoes and Walmart gear. Was a terrible night but really opened my mind to the hobby. Glad you did your research on gear and enjoyed your trip!
I’ve always walked alone through the middle of the woods for ages, I started camping with friends at a local place not too long ago. I plan to walk a portion of the GR5 trail since I am very close to a start portion of it.
This shelves have often books where hiker can write down stuff or their story Maybe next time watch out for that it can be super creepy or super funny to read em
this is so hard to listen to. sounds like you read everything and way too quickly and then there are weird jokes squeezed in between.. just a weird and unnatural experience to listen to. and you have a creepy voice.
7 Years ago, early morning of 1 March 2017, when it was still snow and lakes were still covered with ice, I jumped in a commuter, and one hour later, was on the 3 km trail to the woods. I spent a miserable night on a cheap $10 inflatable mat (which got a puncture in the middle of the night, and I had to sleep on top of my backpack) in a cheap $15 tent (that was soaking wet of condensation). 5 am the next day, I woke up as I was shivering from the cold and in all the clothes I was sleeping in (all the clothes I had) with a heavy backpack on my shoulders, I run 3km to the first commuter. I was sweating like crazy, sweat made my underpants soaking wet. And I was dying of thirst. This was the first time I ever went to woods alone, having a very rough understanding of what spending a freezing cold night in the woods is. Have I quit hiking? Nope, in two weeks, with much better sleeping bag, that I borrowed from my cousin, I hiked 14 km by the woods trail, made a campfire in a very beautiful spot on a rock above the lake, and slept on that cheap inflatable mat (that I fixed) with an extra foam sleeping pad on top. The night was freezing, the skies were clear and stars were shining like crazy. There were some howls in the woods in the night. I can't say I slept good but this time it was much better. The road back was tough. But I made it back to the train station. Btw, my pack was 16 kg, I even took my foldable Fiskars shovel with me. These two overnight hikes changed my life. In six months, I had a hike at the shore of the Barents Sea (Arctic Ocean), around 20 km from the village at the worlds end. I spent 3 days there. I've seen northern lights. I've seen bear track on the sandy beach, that was rock-solid in freezing temperatures. And I only hiked 5-6 hours a day at most and the rest of the days spent in my tent, as the daylight was very short, this changed my life and myself. Since then, I spent multiple nights in below freezing temperatures, some of them next to the fire without sleeping bag. 4 of 5 hikes I had after that I either had alone or with my dog only. In short: it was all worth it. P.S. I had a channel with 2.5 thousand subscribers. My most popular video had 20 thousands views. But after around 3 years of making RU-vid videos, I closed the channel as it started to ruin that magical feeling of being alone in the woods.
one of the best videos i have watched recently. holds my attention and is not repetitive. you got my like and subscribe. transitions are really good man keep it up.
Hey dude, enjoyed all your videos and you seem to be close to where I live and I have done all the trails you have shown...pretty cool! I got my big 1 facing me next week with 2 weeks in Alaska in the Brooks Range in ANWR. Big time Epic but nervous energy too. Anyway, happy trails my friend...
Just found your channel! Been thinking about trying backpacking for a while and after watching your videos, might actually take the plunge and go for it!
Watching your videos made me really want to go backpacking myself, until I saw how many snakes you saw in this one and now I'm perfectly fine at home lol. Love your vids mate!
I think it was somewhere around 1200, but i also dont really remember just because there were so many little things that started to add up. But, you can certainly get a full loadout for cheaper!! I just wanted to invest in the hobby so that I hopefully wont have to replace much of the gear. Best of luck!
I literally discovered your channel yesterday and commented "i need more videos like this" under one of your video, and 8 hours later you posted this one. What a gift, keep up the good work🙏
You have such a beautiful video style. Commantary is relaxing, witty, yet cringy and still flows well for the entire duration of the video. It tells of a hiking story. Not too epic, but definitely interesting. Love it!
