This is a RU-vid channel where I share my knitting. In addition to being a knitter, I am a mom, professor, math lover, and avid maker. On this channel, I share about my hand knit items, which are mostly sweaters. I also love to have a lot of works in progress, host makealongs, and share about my reading and life. If you are into cozy knitting updates, check the channel out!
I like to keep everything that I might need handy. In my knitting bag I keep a crochet hook, scissors, darning needles, emery board, stitch markers, progress keepers, light bulb markers, instructions for Kitchener stitch on an index card. I also have small treasures from places I have knit - like small pebbles and tiny sea shells.
Your so generous to give the bags away. I always have measuring tape, stitch stoppers and markers, scissors, and a sewing needle and lip balm and lotion.A must for me is a thimble for ny pointer finger lol. I’m always poking into that finger. Thanks for your podcasts.❤️
My essentials in my bag are stitch markers, a progress keeper, scissors, darning needle, little crochet hook and my paper pattern. Love seeing your sewing journey!
Loving your PodCast. Keep on with the sewing, it will get easier. You did use one of the hardest fabrics to sew but it turned out amazing!! My knit bag essentials are kept in the little tins from Twice Sheered Sheep. I keep darning needle, stitch markers, progress keepers, little snips and knit increase or decrease markers for my hats and sock knitting. I love that you use your PLG I may need to grab one I am not using in my purses.
Hello! Kath from Mindful Melbourne Maker podcast sent me across to you, but I also see that my friend Dani from A Knitter’s Suitcase is also a viewer! I really enjoyed your podcast. Essentials in my notions pouch for each project includes the regular things like scissors and stitch markers but I try and keep a crochet hook so if I make a mistake in my knitting, I can fix it straight away! Your t-shirt is beautiful even with your rookie sewing (I can’t really comment because I don’t sew at all), and I love Unicorn Purple. I was looking at it just yesterday on the website of my LYS. I’m currently knitting a test knit called the Lucca Sweater by Kristen Finlay of Skein Yarn here in Australia. I saw Dani is doing Freedom Chosen so I reckon I might need to make one - it would make a great gift - oh and your shawl would be a great project for advent kits! 😊
I have a little notions kit I move from bag to bag depending on which one I’m using. It has stitch markers, little scissors, stitch picker-upper, and tape measure.
I always have stitch-markers, a tapestry needle and a pair of scissors, though I find myself just breaking the yarn by pulling 🤭 most of the time. Not if I weave in ends, though, of course! Thanks for this very inspiring episode. I will definitely knit the Freedom chosen scarf with you. And thanks for sharing about your job. I haven’t had many people with a true passion for teaching in my life but I do hope my kids will as listening to you does make you excited and enthusiastic about learning. Amazing. You are a true star xx
Congratulations on 4K subscribers! Project bags hold Stitch markers, scissors, needle, pencil and post-its for knitting notes. Your shawl is very pretty, do you ever put a call out for test knitting? Hard name choices, they’re all lovely… harvest bloom
I am picking out yarn now for the Freedom Chosen, so excited. Congratulations on the 4K! As for my notions bag, it usually has scissors, measuring tape, stitch markers, a sharp tapestry needle and a blunt one and several different sized crochet hooks for those dropped stitches!
Congratulations to the 4K subscribers!! I've made a lot of summer tops this year so I'm looking forward to transitioning into fall knits. My newest cast on is going to be a Ranunculus, which I will hopefully finish in time for Rhinebeck. I'm actually using the yarn you sent me that dyed for the tank top along winner last summer. If you remember it's a really pretty peachy pink, and I got some Drops mohair in a darker pink to go with it. It will be a gloriously pink top! My biggest fall goal is to cast on a blanket for my daughter for her 16th birthday. I have no idea if I will finish it in time, but she's a huge Gilmore Girls fan, and I purchased several skeins from Treehouse Knit's Gilmore Girls collection earlier this summer. It will be epic. I have many small notions pouches, that all have scissors, tapestry needles, stitch markers and barber cords (I bought a bunch of pony bead string from amazon a couple of years ago). That being said, I always seem to misplace the pouches, ha! Good luck with your classes this year!
I also hav made two summer tops for me and one summer top for MJ, so I feel very similar about ready to transition to fall. I love that you are going to use that yarn that I dyed. I can't wait to see it! and I love love love the idea of a Gilmore Girls blanket. That's epic!!
Congrats on 4K, and congrats to the winner of your last drawing! Beautiful yarn! Love all those project bags. As a retired teacher after 25 years of teaching public school, I'm especially drawn to the pencil! I'm currently working on an intarsia project, The Cowboy Jacket, for my granddaughter's first birthday in January. It is a nightmare! I'm juggling 6 colors of yarn at the same time and can't wait to finish. In my notions bag I have scissors, crochet hook, stitch markers, and tapestry needle - although I always forget one or all of those things and have to borrow from knitting friends! Thanks for another great podcast and good luck in the coming school year!
I just googled The Cowboy Jacket and there were a couple patterns. Is it the Mary Maxim pattern? I didn't realize there were so many fun cowboy cardigans :) haha! I can't imagine the tiny intarsia. I know how fiddly it was with three colors and big spaces of change. you are a rockstar! and thanks for the kind words of encouragement!
Happy 4K! My knitting bag always has a smaller notions pouch with a little tapestry needle holder, stitch markers and small scissors. Sometimes with an added measuring tape (my current fav is the TSS 'knit until' tape).
Congratulations for 4000 subscribers! I keep my project bags as empty as possible, so just project, yarn and needles. Notions are in a bag which stays on the couch 😊
Congrats of 4K! I have a notions tin that I have and move to all of my project bags. In my tin I have my Purlsmith stitch markers, scissors, a tapestry needle, and a mini crochet hook to pick up dropped stitches.
I love how you are always so interested in our knitting plans and asking us questions about our projects/plans. My knitting essentials are simple: scissors, stitch marker, darning needle, tiny crochet hook, and lotion!
Thanks, Amy! Though you did leave me hanging on what you are working on lol ;) Those are good knitting essentials! I forgot the lotion! I have a few tuft woolens floating around somewhere ...
Yay!! 4k!! I always keep a crochet hook, removable stitch marker, nail file, tape measure, little scissors, pen, needle stoppers, and try on tubing. Thanks to Valerie for the donation.
Hi Dorothy! And, thanks! A file... that's a great idea and something I do not have in my bags. And, yes, Valerie was so generous and this is an excellent giveaway!!
Excellent episode Congratulations on 4K subscribers! Love the name Frosted Petals. My essentials are little scissors, stitch markers, small notebook, pen, and tape measure and needle stoppers. 💕💕
Big congrats on 4k. I will definitely be casting on Freedom Chosen, I love the idea behind it. I won’t be voting as i am in Northern Ireland but i know what way i would vote. lol I am a big sock knitter so light bulb markers to count my rows are always in my project bag. I like the Autumn Blossom name. I think of the mum plant as more of an autumnal plant. I haven’t knit the love note, i have heard a lot about it. I am going to look into it. Wow it sounds like your going to have a very busy term, it great that your getting out of your comfort zone. That is always refreshing. 🍀🤗
Thanks for casting on Freedom Chosen with us! Mums really are beautiful. I have a giant purple one right now (I should have popped in a picture of it.) I hope you join us for the love note KAL too in October if you aren't busy knitting socks :)
Hi! I love all the names, but Frosted Petals for the win!! In my notions bag, I have all the items most people have BUT I also have a piece of hard candy. I don’t want to be stuck somewhere and need a mint or such. I am picking out my yarn now for the Freedom Chosen pattern, excited to start. Have a great week !
Congratulations on the 4K subscribers - it's always a delight to catch up with you. I always keep stitch markers and try on tubing in my project bags. I keep a separate notions pouch with scissors etc next to me on the couch at all times!🤣
Yay, Alicia! Will you have time to Zoom on Sunday? I need to make a post in Ravelry. And, Frosted Petals seems to be the most popular vote here in the comments.
Congrats on 4K! What a great episode, I felt like I was hanging out with you again ❤ You are so inspiring when you get so excited talking about your work, I just love it. And yeaaaahh you pretty accurately described me making a total ass of myself to the designer of the Heirloom Quilt Cardigan.... I may have used the word "bullshit" when talking about all the seaming etc that I wouldn't want to do, but otherwise I think you nailed it... *face palm*
Hi Nicole! 1. I like the name Frosted Petals, 2. I'm looking forward to knitting the jumper that you'r test knitting at the moment, it looks like such a nice pattern, 3. I love Legends & Lattes, I listened to the audiobook after you mentioned it a while ago, the characters are so great, 4. Lovely to hear about what you're teaching. xx
Your Mooncrush colors are so much fun. Ms. Frizzle is my FAVORITE. I love wearing something me-made every day - it's empowering, it feels good. Love your velour (or not velour) dusty pink top - it's beautiful and I'm proud of you for taking on the challenge!! Cheering you on friend!!! I really don't like sewing with slippery fabric lol (and yes I use a walking foot!). I want to knit a million Metropolitan Pullovers! For your daughter's version, you could knit the size 1 and on a needle size down to adjust the gauge slightly tighter so that would shrink it down just a little more (if you don't want to mess with grading....)?? I mean, I would swatch and do the math at the critical points (yoke depth, body circ, etc) to see if it would make sense with her measurements and fit. Always fun catching up with you Nicole!! Congrats on 4k! I also enjoyed reading Legends & Lattes. I really enjoyed reading Part of Your World - it's fun knowing the MN references!! P.S. - you reminded me of something when you mentioned your daughter starting 1st grade with a brand new teacher... When my oldest was in 1st grade she had a newer teacher who was A KNITTER!!! She always commented on my daughter's handknit socks and sweaters and I knit her a shawl as a thank you gift at the end of the school year. Her mom's a knitter too. Anyway, it would be fun to chat about school stuff and knitting at parent-teacher conferences.
Hi Stephanie! I always get excited to read your comments when I see your name :) I totally agree: Wearing handmade things feels super empowering. I think that's one of the reason I really admire your sewing and find your podcast so inspiring. It's (inspiring)^2 to knit AND sew. Also: great idea about doing the smallest size with smaller gauge! The gauge is so large on this that modifiying by going down a bit could work really well. I know you tested this sweater too so you know how majestic it is. I haven't loved a pattern like this in a long, long, long time. It's bringing so much joy to me and I hope you felt that too.
I have a little notions pouch that I throw in my project bag. It’s got scissors, darning needles, mini crochet hooks, stitch markers, measuring tape, needle stoppers, barber cord. Plus I often take a mini scale in my bag if I’m traveling.
a barber cord! always good to have (especially for knitting those garments). I don't have a mini scale, but I like that idea and can see how handy that may be!
What a great episode! Lots of info. I loved hearing about your teaching plans. I like the name Frosted Petals for your new shawl. That will be a fun knit! Here are my essentials for my knitting bag: scissors, a pencil and highlighter (I use paper patterns), stitch markers, washi tape, hand lotion, a length of spare yarn, and a darning needle. I’m probably forgetting something!
I love your podcast. I work in higher education as an academic advisor. I do schedules, so I found your course load interesting. Congratulations on your new duties.
I like the frosted petals one the best. I put stitch markers, scissors, tape measure, pen, and a darning needle in my notions bag. I'd like to do the knit along. I'm reading legends and lattes and the knitting vampire club right now too.
Me again. LOL. I left my first comment before watching your personal section. It is now the next morning and I HAD to leave you another comment. I just retired this past June, but I would have loved to have had a class like the one your are teaching on data and SIP! As the Instructional Facilitator, I was the leader of the SIP for 15 years. I always felt so lost when it came to examining the data, bringing it all together, and determining what goals and actions to implement to have real and positive change. (Let's not even get into how to support both the admin., and teachers on the team so that they can internalize and be a part of the process.) I love to hear how excited you are for your work in education. Your students are truly blessed!
Congrats on 4K! 🎉 My essentials for my knitting bag are scissors, tapestry needles and measuring tape. Of course then I usually just toss my keys and wallet in there and I'm set. 😂
I always try to have stitch markers, small scissors, and a needle to weave in the ends in my project bags! I’ve made 1 love note, and I think it the best fitting sweater I’ve ever knit! 💜
Congrats on 4K! Loved hearing about what you’re teaching. I would love to do a Freedom Chosen KAL sounds like fun. My notions bag always has scissors, tapestry needles, tape measure, crochet hook, stitch markers, a Portuguese knitting pin and needle stoppers.
whooo hooo! I am so excited to cast on the Freedom Chosen in a couple days. I am thinking a hot pink or bright purple! for the essentials ... you are the first in the comments to mention a Portuguese knitting pin!! :)
Happy new school year! I think learning about what your teaching is so interesting! Also, I really like the frosted petals name. And I've never knit a love note, but I was actually looking at that pattern yesterday as a potential cast on, so I think a KAL would be fun to join ❤
I really like frosted petals for your shawl name. Also your mooncrush tank is stunning - it gives me more confidence that maybe I could make it to hear intarsia isn’t so bad! As for my knitting bag essentials : scissors, darning needles, stitch markers, and a crochet hook in case I drop a stitch! Congrats on 4k
I was so scared of intarsia and surprise: it was just twisting yarn! I had no idea. (For the bag essentials: I need to remember to use needle stoppers. I am always dropping stitches.)
