So good to see you again Kieran! Takaka is a fascinating area. I feel you''ve been through a dark place in the soul as well recently - I was concerned. I'm hopeful you can return to Cave of the West Winds sometime, although the hike in and out looked like an ordeal for you and Chris. - Andrew Mackenna, Christchurch , NZ
Incredible find, thank you so much for documenting all of this, Kieran!! Your can do attitude is super inspiring. Love your commentary as always, and your film-making has improved heaps. Enjoyed seeing the process of the climb, minor things I've always been curious about. Saw you in Roots Bar a few months ago but I was just out of a big tramp and far too knackered to introduce myself, regretfully. Look forward to Part 3 mate :)
@@Leviplaysdrums thanks heaps. I agree, things have improved, quality of the cameras has helped a lot and also feedback from viewers. Part 3 out soon :-)
Brilliant stuff! Thanks to you for sharing :) I appreciate the effort put into the camera angles, The editing is really well done, and your commentary is on point. I'd love to see your surveying process. Any names on the cards for that big chamber?
Very exciting virgin ground! Correct me if I'm wrong, but if a section of the cave is flooded couldn't it block a draft despite there being more behind the obstruction? I seem to recall a video of yours where you had to swim a few meters underwater to get to a continuation of the cave.
Seeing the videos of your adventures underground and sometimes even underwater are fantastic.. thank you.. but I want to see lots more so please stay safe..
Excellent mission, Thanks for bringing us along for the explore. Respect that you're getting out there solo for preliminary scouting, People like you are what keeps the scene fresh. I've got to get down to Takaka sometime and buy you a beer.
Secret cave looks very like one my brother and brother in law and I found and explored to around a similar depth years ago. It would've been around Christmas 1983. Very similar indeed to my memory of it. I won't say where it roughly was because it's secret! However, I think we just found it bush bashing - either that or my brother in law had some idea where it was already. He may have been a holder of the secret knowledge. I could be wrong, but it really looks like it from memory. I've never forgotten that cave.
No matter the thoughts of becoming stuck and getting stomach pains and shudders, i always know you'll find a way to get out...hi from england buddy, nice to see you still finding paths underground....stay safe, stay lucky and best of health to you.
Hi Kieran, do you have plans to release part 3 of the Nettlebed/Stormy Pot connection? I’ve always been enthralled by your work. I only just now realized you don’t actually have a video of the finale. With love from the USA
The video is very good and interesting, but there's something about the narration .... You cannot simply speak in conversational tones with a microphone "somewhere" and expect an audience. It is necessary to very clearly enunciate each word with a proper distance to the microphone and proper sound management to filter out empty room echoes with a good balance of bass and treble and middle tones. Otherwisewhatchoogat'sabunchamumbal ... in brief, I can only make out one or two words of what you're saying! Narration is a delivery, not a pick-up.
@@flux81 --- I dunno, but I don't have a problem with 95% of narrations. This is one channel I have to replay and cue close captions for. Like I said, he could improve by not "talking", and instead paid attention to enunciation. Too much slurringwordstogether.
Thanks, I am sorry I can't remember the name of the story. Apparently it is part of a series of experiencing things, that was as much as I could understand. Dragons breath will be part of a bigger program about water in Africa
Thanks for watching and asking questions. No, the caving was not done at night time, not that it would matter...its dark underground no matter what the time of day is. We did this climb nearly 10 years ago
Very interesting! Reading and learning about caving. It looks thrilling but I guess I am merely a spectator and learner at this point. Really enjoyed the video. Congratulations on the climb! What year is this footage from BTW? I noticed the caving in the beginning was done at night time; how come? Isn't it better to do it in the day time?
Hey there Kieren. So sorry Mahone and I dinged your oxygen tanks on your underwater surveying expedition in Waitomo. We were star struck amateurs. Regards, (Grandma) Dorinda.
Love it Kieran, great edit and an amazingly short summary of what has been some epic time underground. Got a new cave over the back of home which is sucking major air. 860m... I'll let you know when find the first squeeze 😁 Gregory
