Yes, what seems mundane today can be a treasure tomorrow. The SD40-2 comes to mind along with so much more of the railroad scene. Not that a ride on an executive train is ever mundane!
A time and a train not to be repeated. The engines are gone, Bernie is at rest (engineer) and CP has left the area (thankfully). Luckily, Andy Muller, Jr. has brought regularly-scheduled passenger trains into the area on his Reading & Northern system.
This was the beginning of a planned 23-day trip immersing myself once again in European railways. Unfortunately due to a health issue the trip was cut short and lasted only 2 days. Bummer.
The first set of tracks is right by where I grew up. If it was filmed a little higher you could see my house. Spent a lot of time as a kid watching trains there.
Great production. You provided a lot of information in a short time. I really liked how you concentrated on the NS(ex-Pennsy) but then took us into town to look at the murals and other historic highlights. Such a quaint town with a big history in the beautiful state of Pennsylvania. As others have stated there is a sense of melancholy to know how things once were and now are. Keep up the great work.
What is really sad is the reality that Govt let die on the vine The once mighty Pennsy and others like her, making it impossible to operate profitably, and regulating them out of existence allowing other forms of transport unequal favor. The loss of the Pennsylvania devastated many proud rail hubs that are still feeling the loss some 50 years later
The nearby Novotel has excellent rooms and suites overlooking the railway station and tracks and it is a sight to behold in the night (or day) watching all those trains go by! The other similar set up is an ibis at the Amsterdam Central station!
Very intersting. I am french, if i can going to USA in futur, I go not to Colorado canyon or California beach but to Altoona and the Horse Shoe Curve !! Amicalement
Limmattalbahn is actually pretty cool, its the newest narrowgauge line in Switzerland, and contrary to how it looks, its not a Tram but a light rail line :)
