Videos of anything I find interesting, fun, or think will be educational for others. We love animals and have and raise chickens for pets, meat and eggs. Our pets are not our meat birds though. Boys also like making Lego movies for younger viewers. All our clips should be found to be family friendly.

I hope she is ok. I've seen a Loooot of videos where people gently drained the light yellow fluid out with a 16, 18 gage needle and a large syringe. It can add years to their life. But everyone has their comfort level. We are going to try this tomorrow night and hope it brings relief and extra time to our girl. She's only a yr and a half 😢 Still laying beautiful green eggs and eating great. Perky and with her sisters. Your girl is darling. ❤ Hang in there

Draws raccoons also. Did help some, with pecking of feathers.

Excellent demonstration and narrative for newbies! That's a nice calm hen and I suspect the large space and free ranging makes it easier. Backyard chicken keepers with small runs might see more tension and conflict. I keep chickens on a half acre and let a broody hen raise new chicks every year so I keep them in a separate small yard until the babies are at least 3 weeks old. The old girls show curiosity thru the fence and become familiar with them and MamaHen does an excellent job of letting the old hens know who's boss and stay away from the babies. Within a week or two everybody is showing each other respect, except at the food bowl as you mentioned :)

This introduction went as perfect as possible. These were really a super nice flock of girls. New hen got along great from the start. Went straight into the coop pretty much with not a problem.

We watched this video and then purchased the pinless peepers. They stayed on our chickens (Golden Comets) for approximately 2 seconds before the chickens scratched them off with their feet. Do not purchase these things unless you feel like donating $20 to Amazon.

I have another one, and she is ok. They do make fantastic show birds for your kids. I would not go out of my way for one, but they are beautiful and decent layers. So depends on what you want.

Can you comment on some behavioral signs of a rooster vs hen at this age? Out of my 6, i have 2 that head down, neck feathers puffed at each other. Stare offs. None of the others really do this. Is the fluffed neck feathers with head down a 100% sign of a roo behavior? These 2 have been doing this with each other since about 4 weeks old!
@SunnyChickenChick
@SunnyChickenChick Месяц назад
Roos definitely play fight much more than hens. Hens typically get into that after 4 months.

Now, my birds just climb over the fence, the same kind of fencing you have there. There's no pole for them to grab or anything. Just up and away, hahaha. I hope clipping their wings will help. Thank you.

I have four prarie bluebells running around the bedroom at my feet. Three weeks. Pretty sure I have three hens and a roo. (comb, wing, etc.) Americana X Leghorn crosses so sickle feathers aren't there to show. All hens? 👏👏 Cool. Behavior; the one who has the most pronounced comb is also the most bold, aggressive and resistant to direction. I sense testosterone is involved. LOL. Thanks for sharing!

I have buff Orpingtons that like to go broody for months. Pulling them out never works. The other day, I took one out and sat her in my pool to wet her belly with cold water. The next day she was out. That'll be my go to now.

Oh man, you’re reminding me of so many beloved chickens this week! I got a free proven broody partridge rock at a swap. She was a vicious mama, mean to people and everything else, she even beat away a Guinea rooster! She was really friendly the rest of the time. I loved her.

I had some Cream Legbars and they were nice but more flighty than I liked. All of the 2nd generation liked to roost in the trees like Leghorns will. My Cream Legbar rooster was a gem though, really wonderful disposition and great with the hens. I wish I had cloned him 😂

I’ve got birds getting up into the garage rafters to roost🤣. Not all the time because I don’t want them in there but one will sneak in and in the evening I’ll remember I was in the garage earlier….. go investigate and there’s a happy girl up high looking down like….. ha ha now you gotta get an ear of corn to entice me down!!!!! Anyone want some spoiled hens?😂
