That was exactly the method my Mother who grew up a block off the ocean in MA, told me they used to catch crabs only they used chicken necks.

My parents used to take us crabbing just like that! Once my Mom was standing on a small bridge and noticed a tight string. She slowly pulled it up and a 2’ alligator was on the end. 😳 We looked down the canal and there was a bigger one coming out of the water. We all ran to the car! 😂
