Thanks for taking the time to do another Q&A. I appreciate you answering my question last time about Gwyn’s stereo and before that about my dead disco 4 👍
Q1. If you service my LR will this service be added to the digital record the LR main dealer keep. Q2. You don’t like underseal but what do you recommend. Apologies if this has been covered before.
Its a mystery how Ineos will sell you a brand new Grenadier including 300hp BMW engine and bang up to date everything for the price of just a Mahker engine power train combo. Its a tough choice to be sure and I suspect a hard sell.
I am a disabled veteran and have limited use of some limbs. With that said, I want to explore but i am worried about being able to do a trail repair if something pops up. I do proper 3000-4000 mile trips and am always careful to not push my vehicles too hard. I have considered a cummins 2.8 crate engine, rebuilt 200tdi, and many many other options. My question is: what engine would be the most likely to get me home from the wilderness? I am also concerned about fuel range as I don't want to run out of fuel in the cold Canadian mountains or southern deserts. Can't wait for the paid subscription option for questions.
Hello fellow Vet Sorry to hear about your problems. When it comes to reliability I’d say the bmw m57 coupled to the 8hp70 as all electronic shift can be hand held. And great for maximum eco runs with vast gear ratios available.
Thanks for your time! it helps people all over the world get into these great vehicles. Even if it doesn't go viral you are helping keep the love for these cars going for the next generation. My teen son loves your videos and noticed the story about Marines on the wall... he is now learning about that event. Keep it up bud!
Why? Have you priced up the cost of buying one and the time and additional parts to install it yet? Come back to us when you have please, would be interested in what you can do it for.
@@Metal05 yes you’re correct that’s for a bare motor and coil packs now add the rest inc stage 2 transmission & transfer case inc adapters and propshafts worthy of the power.
Hi, I follow you from Pakistan. Could you explain what is required other than the M57 BMW engine to make this conversion. Is the wiring and ECM of the BMW also required, and what transmission is used? What is required to connect the Engine and Transmission to 4x4 system in the defender?
@tillyfoxtrotter no, just bored of seeing you write the same old rubbish on our videos. Dave explained the situation weeks ago to you. If you don’t like it, or don’t like the videos me and Ben make, move on there plenty of other stuff on RU-vid for you. Save your negativity for somewhere else. We work really hard to make interesting engaging content for Dave and his team, it’s a kicker when all you do is comment negatively all the time.
got a td5 pushing 330.000km with a stage 2 tune have done the head at 270.000km have also rebuilt the gear box and thrown in an lof hd clutch think it's on the original turbo any thoughts on preventative maintenance or should i run it until it goes bang and put an m57 in it am in nz so not many people doing this m57 swap that are local
Cracking episode Dave/Ben, very varied…what happened to that Cummins engined monster you’re building? Not seen an update on that for a while? Cagney looking very cool…PS check out Endak Hudson (Hudson Coachworks) in Aus, does some great stuff with old RRC’s…❤ Mahker
@@wearemahker I’m still waiting on the second half of my funds 🤦🏻♂️ but rest assured I’ll be paying both yourselves and Bowler a visit. I do enjoy all your billet parts … I need a defender 90 overlander with a bit of smart tidy engineering rather than all the bolt on / build it yourself stuff. I like Vector stuff from the US which looks awesome kitting out the back of Jeeps… Hoping something similar can be done in the UK to the back of a 90 😊
"Puma's are shit and unreliable, and hard to fault find - better off giving us £30K and we'll fit an M57" - I mean, come on... The amount of hate for Pumas is ridiculous, people only moan about things when they break and thats perpetuated by human nature, the internet and people with a vested interest in them being known as terrible! If you read the Disco 4 pages, you'd think the TDV6 has a 90% failure rate, 911 pages would tell you every 996 has IMS failure and all 997s have terminal borescoring :D Disgruntled people are those that shout the loudest, that's us as a species. Lets be realistic; god knows how many 2.2/2.4 Duratorqs have been built, but how many have done orbiting satellite-like milage in Transits, Mondeos, Rangers, Boxers, Taxis etc in the 10-15 years of production? Of course they fail, all engines do, but the failure rate must be miniscule. If they actually have a specifically high failure rate in Defenders, you have to ask what JLR did when they installed them... I'm far from a Puma fan boy; I've had a 200, a 300, half a dozen TD5s and currently have a TD5 and a Puma - and the Puma will be running an LS3 by the end of the year - but not because its an unreliable p.o.s. that no one can fix - I've done 50K reasonably comfortable mostly motorway miles cruising at 80-85 (rather have done that with a Puma/MT82 than any other combo), and its done 140K total...
Has anyone worked with Defenders Northwest Brian Hall Gig Harbor, Washington. I would always say that according to the lawsuit or according the court documents Defenders Northwest LLC. and its owners are scamming us.
@@wearemahker And I thought Booties could do everything 😜. Well, you make awesome Defs (the best around?) so keep up the good work and keep the content coming. One day I hope to be wheeling my Def through your doors...🤔
There’s always one who finds something negative to say 🤦🤦! Yes we also thought about that but the coffee cup must hit the compressor activation button first then hop to the left slightly then knock the Diff lock button. Thanks for your concern but we’re not stupid !
We’re not saying they are all bad but when they go wrong they cost a fortune to fix unlike other engines we actually like the 2.2 Tdci it makes great torque when stage 2 remapped.
Had a Puma 2.4 125000 miles All the problems mentioned on this Video…… EGR valves kills this engines. The air box intake is way to small the turbo doesn’t get enough air Injectors are bad and Glow plugs will get stuck in the head If you want to keep the original engine you need to Get a bigger intercooler Get a cool air intake Blank EGR Map the engine with someone decent Oil service every 5000 Change the fuel filter regularly Pray the injectors work………. Not even mention the noise but that doesn’t bother me Now if I had the funds not M57. LS3 is the way to go in my opinion Great video as usual.
