This reminds me of the Stockholm Tvärbanan light rail that connects the radial subway and commuter lines and has been expanded multiple times and is extremely popular.
The biggest expense is bringing joists and building attachments up to code for the inspector. I did a renovation in my basement and the inspector said… “I know you didn’t work that (joists) but because I can physically see them they have to be brought up to current building code” what was supposed to be a few thousand dollars turned into multiple thousands of dollars real quick.
Have the homeowner write up a lease for a renter. Then they can use that to push out the unlawful squatter. They have a signed lease, the squatter doesn't. Out!
Crazy how trespassing works, anyone who breaks into your house you can shoot unless you don’t know they’re there for long enough you have to let them stay and live in fear?
I owned a house in England. I lived in it and noved out to find work, putting it on the rental market. Squatters moved in and we had no rights to kick them out as deemed a civil matter not criminal. The utility companies: water, telephone, gas & electric to squatters; were happy to provide services, the local police, council warned us not to break in and physically throw them out - which we should have done and taken the consequences. The risk was the damage the could do while there. The key was passed around or sold at pubs and became a known squat with ever transient population. Our fear was it would catch fire ( we discovered later they burned candles direct on to wooden surfaces as they didn't pay the electricity bill) or they'd cut the roof joists which would be beyond economic repair. How can they break in and get all the support of law & services and the owner and payer of local taxes be left hanging?
This is crap unless you have a lease. You should have no rights. I remember when I lived with my Grandma. The neighbor lady moved out and they found some squatters in her house. At some point the city came in kicked him out and then boarded up the hole that they made. To get in and out of
It just makes me sick they can build whole NEIGHBORHOODS within a year with technology of lasers and digital printing building modular homes are more precise and efficient. Idk why America is so dumb.. and I just have to mention wasteful of every resource possible
It could happen but it would be unconstitutional to make them sell it all off. They can fix the problem moving forward but they will not be able to force them to sell off what they have. Free capitalism. The government needs to work on insurance bills, interest rate programs for first-time home buyers, and taxes incentives for primary residents.
@KevinGrolig the trade off of taxation should be a guarantee of one's private property. Why have property tax and insurance. If there's none for the owner?
I live in the worst place in MoCo to live--Takoma Park. Don't do it. I love my deer and I've grown tired of hearing people bitch about schools. Our taxes are among the highest in the nation and they waste a lot of public money on useless feel-good legislation so they can be more woke than the next place. They are outright horrible to Older Americans and senior citizens can experience ageism that rival anywhere in the country. The politicians are only here to curry favor with the far left so they can go for state, then national offices. I think MoCo used to be cool--but it's not anymore. If you care to retire in place, don't come here. If anything except inclusion matters to you, i.e., economic development, conservation, affordable housing--look elsewhere. MoCo is all about PC and race. Nothing else matters.
