The trouble with symbolizing counties in New England is that counties don't serve much of a purpose -- almost all governmental functions are at the "town" level.
Thanks for featuring my Idaho flag from 2009! I'm amazed it's still going around. I'm also glad you like the new flags of Utah and Minnesota. I was officially involved with both of those final designs as an expert advisor, so I'm glad our efforts have paid off.
Us Delawareans actually like our flag because it’s one of the few “seal on a bedsheet” flags that actually works and looks good and is distinguishable.
Though the redesigns are quite good, and objectively better, they are quite boring and generic looking. Imo the idea of replicating Liberian quilting could’ve been reused more elegantly, like with the flags of Belarus and Turkmenistan
As a West Virginian I really wanted to like it but despite what CGP grey would think most of us actually like our current flag. I really just don’t like the minimalist nature of the redesign.
Literally everyone in Minnesota preferred the River and Loon-esque flags. The "current" flag is too simple, and it can be applied to any state. Flags are supposed to represent the ENTRIE state/providence/nation, not someone else. I 100% agree that the old flag needed to be changed, but the new flag lost all symbolism and connection to Minnesotans. You can't even fly it upside down to signal distress in extreme emergency situations like you can with the American Flag.
Your flag redesigns, on the whole are HORRIBLE and TACKY. Especially Massachusetts (you obviously know nothing about this state), New York (Blue and Gold are synonymous with this state). Go back to school, you fool.
Beautiful, Excellebt, Congrats on the research for the bkgd of each flag and all the symbolism. How about Japan? They have some of the SIMPLEST BUT STRONGEST heraldic and pennant stuff?
The two letter provincial abbreviation for the where Oromocto, was accidentally listed as NP. The correct abbreviation is NB for New Brunswick. In Canada, the abbreviation NP isn’t used for any of its country subdivisions
Good . . . no, GREAT JOB!! Kudos. Will have to return to watch the rest later. I don't understand why you want to remove some of the states' names (as they want to)? Not everybody knows all FIFTY states. "Fly-over states" like Idaho, Iowa, etc., where nobody really goes -- deserve IMHO to keep their state names on there PRECISELY because they are 3 or 4 among 50 and are among the smallest economically, etc.,etc. BTW, I Love the re-designed Fleur-de-Lis for LOUISIANA!! Also, am not crazy about 18 counties or the 29th state to become one. That "stroke" is over-done by the time you hit the 30th state ranking.
For the bundle of sticks in Lofa, the sticks have their own symbolism. A stick on its own is easy to break, but when gathered together you can't break it. That's actually the reason why fascism is called fascism. I would recommend replacing the stars with log cross-section type things.
Liberia was never “colonized” by the United States. What became the modern nation of Liberia was established as the American Colonization Society to help freed American slave emigrate back to Africia. It was founded by America Abolitionist Robert Finley, local tribal people and freed American slaves. The United States never colonized any country in Africia as did England, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Belgum and the Netherlands.
"I added (1-50) things becasue (state) was the (1-50th) state to join the union" no... the redditors definitely know what they're doing, but you can stay out of this lil bro
I went to Germany multiple times and they do display the Bundesland flag and City flag allong the German and European one. The main difference with the United State is that in the south they'd display them as vertical banner but in the North like in Berlin, Hamburg or Köln you'd see them as more common horizontal rectangular flags. The photo you've shown is a photo of the Reichstag which is basically their capitol so they don't display the local government flag in front of it. And you'd see this everywhere in Europe.
@@itryen7632 Yeah Switzerland and Austria too. In France municipalities will sometime display the regional flag if it exists and sometimes the city flag if it exists (some mayor may decide to not do it because the only flag should be the French one or sth). I believe in Belgium they also display the Provincial flag and Regional/Community flag. This is clearly not an American exclusive thing.
Liberia has to learn this lesson, a flag ain't a MS Paint draw, a flag must feature well-defined symbolism and a good selection of colors that don't clash with each other. Next country should be Mexico, most of their state flags are boring bedsheets with a coat of arms in the center (similar situation to the state flags of its neighboring country, the USA).
Best video in the series. I strongly disagree with Gbarpolu's (I would keep the tree whose trunk is a human - only better drawn), but most others are acceptable and some are really great.
