So glad to finally have a diagnosis. So many times I’ve stopped eating and just stared off hoping for the pain and sensation to end. Can’t speak during these episodes, so the best I can do is give a thumbs up to reassure those around me I’m alright. The pain is horrible, can’t even swallow saliva, and the choking sensation is terrifying. Diaphragm spasms, neck aches. What sucks is I’m an athlete, so I need those high proteins and sometimes run into a trigger food! Finally said enough when I had an episode so bad I actually stopped breathing. It was nothing more than chicken broth, and just a spoonful…. Thankfully I had an endoscopy and I believe my eosinophils were around… 26? I think? High. My esophagus was constantly inflammed, to the point where a swallow study pill couldn’t pass by without pain. Anyway I was prescribed a PPI and that has helped so so much! Life is back to normal - in fact, it’s better than what used to be normal ☺️
(As well as making a list of what allergens I MUST avoid and which ones I should eat in moderation. Elimination diet kinda works for me, and allergen tests didn’t help due to, and I quote my immunologist “The tissues in the skin respond to allergens differently than what may trigger the tissues in your throat”. Really is a Trial and Error process that takes patience and kindness with yourself. I’ve been there folks, we’re in this together - you’re not alone ❤)
High risk features warrant antibiotics to prevent your aunts complications. Which is in line with what I said. So you don’t actually disagree with me. More accurately you misunderstood me.
We need a more timely video that addresses the burgeoning problem with gastroparesis that can result after taking weight management drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy.
I’ve thought about that. Though you’ve pretty much summed it up. These meds slow gastric emptying which is essentially medically induced gastroparesis.
Vitamin D is fat soluble so acidity shouldn’t matter at all for its absorption. The others are theoretical risks but little evidence that most people should need vitamins. A good diet should have more than enough nutrients. Most of your GI tract is neutral anyhow so acidity is not essential for a lot of absorption. B12 and magnesium are easy enough to supplement however if you take a PPI for a very long time.
@@MarkCooperMD tbh you are one of the few in here saying that PPIs long term for men and women are not that bad...with very low chances to face any issue on the long term! Many thanks for that, really appreciate it. I live in EU and my gastroenterologist suggested to take them long term with good diet because when i was born i had Esophageal atresia and some other issues that were fixed finger crossed. Now at the age of 40 i found out i have relatively small hiatal hernia at 1.8cm, lose sphincter, gastritis and GERD. I take seriously my health so i'm very careful of what i'm eating from the day i found out (9 months ago) but inflammation is still there. I take PPIs 4 times a week twice 40mg and twice 20mg pariet. I had two endoscopies within 9 months both times i have inflammation but i think is reduced now due to my diet and PPIs. Only symptom is LPR but once in a month i might get the pain under my chest. However, inflammation is still there.. In general i was worried about the long term side effects of PPIs so thank you for your explanation and giving me hopes that i can use them for the next 20-30 years
Had an attack of Diverticulitis out of the blue, was sent home with antibiotics, a follow up CT scan 1 month later showed an abscess that they couldn't drain, bowel perforation, large local lymph nodes and fat stranding. The doctor said to let nature take its course and wanted to wait for swelling to go down before I had a colonoscopy. Never had a normal bowel motion since, have passed blood, blood clots, mucus and mucosy poop. Now am feeling better other than constant soft stool sometimes with mucus or blood and another month on another CT now shows I have adhesions to the bladder and womb, an ovarian abcess and a bowel to bladder fistula, have a sigmoidoscopy tomorrow as they suspect a tumor, am scared, doctor keeps telling me im young to have this gone from mild to very complicated.
But this surgeon my surgeon fixed mine I was healed Then after a year it came loose Soon after that my esophagus bleed 🩸 Then procedure after procedure tests after tests Went to doctor thamert who has done a thousand of the surgeries When I went to him thought he would rewrap it He rejected 🙅🏻 it no surgery But will Michael need surgery in the future Yes But by the time they want to do it no surgery out of discussion He is going to wait to were it is impossible and surgery will not help
Oh, I cannot hardly breathe. I wish it was rare for me, but oh my God can I not do the things I used to do and it sucks. I think it’s life-threatening now. Maybe it’s too late. Maybe I should give up
Are used to not have hardly any problems but now it’s like I don’t know. It’s like this stuff is killing me and no matter what I do it just hurts. It makes me pissed.
Bottom line - colonoscopies don’t prevent colon cancer just as mammograms don’t prevent breast cancer. It is a tool to catch growth early to help catch and stop it early when it is more manageably treated.
You misunderstand the bottom line. Major studies have shown a decrease in the incidence of colon cancer in areas that perform population screening effectively (80%+ participating)
My brother is allergic to all meats, his nose begins to drip uncontrollably and also a lot of sneezing. The weird thing is that when he goes back home to South America (we live in the US) he has no symptoms if he consumes meat. Is it because the meat was not expose to alpha gab, or is his allergy related to something else?
This is really helpful Mark. My gastro consultant referred me for surgery so on a waiting list. My GP is really against me having the surgery as he says he sees patients the other end and there are risks but also most he sees are unable to vomit or burp which causes other problems? On a background of anxiety this has caused me alot of worry. Not sure where to turn as I have just turned 29 and the consultant said best to get it done now while I am young but don’t feel able to make a decision, any advice?
Very educational video! Your comment about the increasing numbers is spot on. My wife has EoE and was not diagnosed until 17 years old. She had many symptoms her entire childhood but it just wasn't caught. Thanks for spreading awareness!
Ascites can occur alone or as a complication of chronic liver diseases like cirrhosis. I prescribe my patients Planet Aurveda’s Indian Echinacea, Phyllanthus niruri, Yakrit Plihantak Churna, and liver detox capsules to my patients
Yes it can. Apples and pears have a lot of excess fructose. So do melons. Blackberries have naturally occurring sorbitol. Follow what fruits cause more issue. While these symptoms can be bothersome they aren’t harmful.
@@MarkCooperMD yeh i worry too much. Been doing great having nice stools for now and then looser. Funny cause does are all the fruits i love to binge on!! Could you explain in a video lactose intolerance? Sometimes im fine with it and other times wow does it f*** me up.
Diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis 20 years ago but through diet & lifestyle changes (NO MEAT & reduced stress for past 18 years) I’ve had 3 normal colonoscopies since & complete remission of symptoms. Colonoscopies are a breeze these days especially with the sedating drug Propanol, freakin wonderful!
I had this problem for a long time before finally having surgery. Was the best thing I ever did. I have made and still am making video updates on RU-vid. I had it to where the reflux was actually reaching my larynx and causing me breathing issues as well as constant throat clearing.
Oh. My teeth were broken in a car accident and I still await an award so I can afford to get them repaired. I hadn't thought that my difficulties chewing could be making my decades-long struggle with gastroparesis harder. I can't chew.
I was diagnosed with EoE almost seven years ago, and while I have mostly good days, there are days that are insufferable in terms of even just trying to swallow my own spit. My insurance wouldn’t cover the prescriptions for inhalers, but one gastroenterologist was a Godsend, and told me to use Flonase in the back of my throat, and to ensure I rinse my mouth after, and neither eat nor drink anything for an hour after. It has definitely helped in my quality of life, though I wonder how often I should use the spray, especially during peak allergy season here on Kauai.
Thanks for sharing this information. I was diagnosed with uncoplicated diverticulitis last month and I had repeated soft flare up 2weeks after i finished antibiotics. The pain is manageble but i have severe GERD in mean time. What the best medicines for GERD in this cases? I am 37 is pretty depressing.Thank you!
I think the Miralax is no good for me I have an inflammation in my entire stomach I did before both endoscopy and colonoscopy this is the first time I’m in pain.
Great information here! I’ve had my colostomy for a while now after having a very bad case of diverticulitis that had me hospitalized for almost a month. You brought up a very good point with the pain medication and antibiotics that I now have a question about. Prior to my surgery and hospitalization I had been treated for what I was told was only a hernia at the time. I had previously had a small case of diverticulitis that had gone away entirely and I wasn’t having issues. Months later I’m dealing with the hernia situation and my doctor put me on traumadol for the hernia and that alone. I ended up back a short time later feeling more pain than before and this time with a fever. Not long after that I was hospitalized at a different hospital. My question is could the traumadol have made things worse?
Thank you for explaining this in a way that I can follow along with (without becoming too distracted.) I did wonder, if the patient has cirrhosis and portal hypertension (2 GI bleeds) will they go downhill quicker?
My 23 yr old son has been been suffering for nearly 5 years has recently been diagnosed with this its heartbreaking watching him suffer. His weight is deteriorating that bad that he goes in this Thursday to be tube fed 😢
I’m sorry he’s had to go through that. What time of the year did his symptoms start? I think some of these cases are related to seasonal viruses. Unfortunately we are also seeing many young people (and also retirees) develop nausea and vomiting related to marijuana overuse. It seems to be more common as laws have been loosened and modern strains of the plant seem to be supercharged, with more potent effects (and thereby side effects).
Quick question. My colonoscopy is next Monday. My doctor suggested that I only eat skinless fruits and veggies but is that really the only thing I can eat?
I think they’re advising that over the next week you avoid things that will leave more residue. Fruit skin is a problem, particularly tomato and apple. Onions are also an issue. Seeds from things like cucumber and raspberries. In Britain they have the “white diet” which is things like mash potatoes and white bread and boiled chicken. That’s for a week leading to the actual prep.
i couldnt drink it, i when in there and it all black they had to shoot water to clear it, when they get to the end he just took pic and didnt even shoot water to see what it is., i couldnt drink it all, only half of it, and i cant even dump it out on the toilet but not coming out.
I dont know if i have this,I’ve had chronic hives for about 7 years now. With that comes gerd(er visits they give me maloox mixed with lidocaine). It will bad to where i vomit and have nausea when i eat.It comes and goes throughout the years.I finally have a gi and allergist appointment. 🤞
