Roundels are spot on! Your videos are an inspiration to all of us restoring/building aircraft for the first time. Please keep the videos coming! Enjoy your time away!
G'day Scott, Yay Team ! Excellent work..., you're doing a beautiful job... Did you see that Dynodon64 took his Corsair up for nearly an Hour, landing fairly close to Sundown...? He took a GoPro on the Fin Leading Edge along for the Maiden Flight... Well worth watching...(!). Now, of course, he's deep into rectifying the things which going for a fly have revealed need some tuning and adjustment. Such is life, Have a good one... Stay safe. ;-p Ciao !
Very nice. Been watching the videos for a bit. I bought a DR-1 kit from Robert and know the issues you speak of. But have to say, watching your videos have been very helpful. Been sitting on it for a few months and should be starting the rudder shortly. Trying to figure out the bending of the tubing.
I wish someone had a you tube for me to watch on these AA aircraft. Hope some of it helps. Message me on FB if you think I can help. Tube bending, screw everything, including the jig down, risk mucking up the first one, just be able to replicate it.
Amazing project. Love your craftsmanship. I never considered finishing an airplane with a roller. Your finish has a great vintage appearance. Any idea why the blue on your roundels didn't lay down like your other colors? My last project was finished in a polyurethane and it's too shiny for a vintage airplane.
Hi, Scott! Your roundels look great! I think at one point you mentioned something about your back... yeah, with a 5 ft chord, bending over so many times while putting down trim tape was a literal pain! But the final appearance is worth it! The "1-3-5" diameter for the three rings is proper according to many reference photos. Enjoy your break and I look forward to the next installment! John SE5a
Love it! It turned out great, just as we have come to expect from you. The tape seemed to have decided to stick on after all. Was it the cold conditions that made it reluctant to stick earlier?
Your exterior house paints are formulated to stay a bit flexible so they can take the expansion and contraction caused by exposure to variations in sunlight, so it will never be totally hard and scrubbable like interior paints. Then again, bird shit won't beat it. Some manufacturers claim ten years' worth of durability on wooden surfaces.
My experience with epoxy glue (blessed be the epoxy) you don't need fastenings with the glue!! I'm building a boat out of Paulonia and glue. No fastenings thus far. Just wood and glue. Vast savings in weight and cost.
Painting & covering is a lot of work, Scott, but worth every minute of time spent. The paint & roundels look fantastic, a real credit to you & your workmanship...😊
The wing undersurfaces in the tent are looking very convincing, and the hue of the upper surfaces is good too. I would love to come to assist, but I’m 84 and walking with crutches, which rules me out.
I thought that the unpainted linen was a cream colour, rather than white. Is white the correct colour? I wasn’t there at the time, so I have to go by guesswork.
“Pretty stuff?” Crikey, I reckon that the wings will be as pretty as. When folks look at the finished plane, the bits which will be most noticeable will be the wings. Actually the whole ‘plane will be a real knockout. I hope that you bring it to the Tyabb air show next year, as I live in the Mornington Peninsula.
Hi Scott, I’d love to come and help you, but I am 84 and you need a chap with both arms and legs and all the bits in the middle working, which counts me out. I will have to be content with watching on RU-vid.
That was very impressive Scott, with the way it started as soon as the mags were fired up. With temperature control, I presume that the oil temperature is used? I think that a Porsche would be the same.
Hey Scott. Im still loving the vids. thanks for posting all these. Im still binge watching from the start. A question - How does the iron make that material tight?? is there something in it that shrinks?? Thanks in advance
