too expensive upgrade for a very small performance improvement imho. a simple 3D printed upgrade of the leadscrew nut to eliminate the play would have much more performance improvement than that - way cheaper than replacing with ballscrews also. in my 3018, taking away the load of holding the gantries from the stepper motor bearing also gave a lot of improvement. any of the 3018 Z gantry configurations available commercially (metal/3D printed) will never be satisfactory. it has to be replaced with a stiffer one. but then, the Z gantry even if made stiff will still bounce up and down as it will twist on the x rail shafts due to the x rails close proximity to each other - at 12mm diameter they are not that stiff. the x axis has to be redesigned. in mine, had to add some 4040 aluminum post to it to extend its height thus enabling extension of the height of the z gantry and addition of more x rails. one more thing, any "upgrade" to a bigger spindle motor with its fan will further exacerbate the chattering in this machine imho.
