Fantastic movie! or documentery? Tells it like it is, whats at the heart of our economy and foriegn policy. The corruption scene was one of my favorites in this movie. Great actors reminds me of traffic the movie telling the whole story through the eyes of all the participants.
Love this clip. Even though this senator was a staunch segregationist, he did in fact “defend” an African American woman because he realized a great injustice and farce was occurring in his presence.
I was there for this performance, live in London in 1981, only a few hundred of us there. The video, as great as it is, does not do it justice. I do not recall the guitar at all. Maybe it was there, but I think it was just acoustic. All I recall is his voice. Most incredible performance I ever witnessed.
James has the unbelievable ability to take an original song and without changing a single way he actually sings it…..can bring out so many emotions….for instance…..this version. Just beautiful. And….to add…just look at his smile halfway through. Legend of legends…may he continue to invoke emotions.
I met him. Sorry to dissapoint but he's a lovely bloke. Just as he appears onstage. Thoughtful and kind. And no, I still can't get through this without thinking of my dad. And tearing up a bit. Maybe one day.
This was the beginning of the end for McCarthy. Wisconsin voters were angry at McCarthy for this, some saying he was "picking on a nice old colored lady".
Uhh no it wasn’t. The “end” was going to the back of the bus? A censor? He was still in the senate when he died and nothing happened to him. You can thank Eisenhower and Flanders (members of his own party, fyi)
It is rare to see Newman play with such passion and aggression. He clearly preferred more nuanced versions of his songs, considering how many orchestral accompaniments he wrote. I prefer him just as he is here. It really showcases his skill as a pianist and the passion brings the songs to life.
Yes! I’ve just spent months getting this technique down. The hardest part is this chord, it gets harder when you make it a minor chord. I saw a later interview with tommy about this technique and he said that even now after years of doing it his right hand still starts to hurt with some of these shapes.
