I'll never forget the first time I saw this. The word awestruck comes to mind. Im glad its every bit as good as I remember. Such authority and confidence in his voice to just sing it with a guitar. Very few singers could do this and do it this well.
I was there for this performance, live in London in 1981, only a few hundred of us there. The video, as great as it is, does not do it justice. I do not recall the guitar at all. Maybe it was there, but I think it was just acoustic. All I recall is his voice. Most incredible performance I ever witnessed.
I never realize Sting had this kind of range. I can't believe what I'm hearing. This is a great tune, and done by one of the best in the business. Way to go Sting! too bad I came aboard late. Great post!!
1979 - I was 10 and I saw this performance I was in love. Saw Sting perform Roxanne the same way (alone) at the Hunter Valley couple of years ago and the man's voice has not aged at all - took me back to being 10 again!
Wow. That is unbelievable. I can't believe I had never heard that before. Sting and a Strat. That's it. Oh, yeah, and a voice that gives you shivers. A true treasure.
My favorite version of this song!! Wish they put it on an album. Can still remember being in high school and hearing this on the radio and getting chills...glad it's here!!
Excellent. My co worker had a great police mix tape w this on it in mid 80s. Had this song on it and it all clicked as far as police music goes. So many great Songs.👏🏻💯🎼😁❤️🍍🤞🏻🐄
September 1981 it is called " the secret policeman's other ball and was part of raising money for amnesty international. this is my favorite version of this song
Josh De'Ath I prefer to look at him 🔥❤️ but yes I love listening to this and the Message in a Bottle from this show, with my eyes closed, or outside looking at the stars
Think this is the definitive version of Roxanne. Secret Policeman's Other Ball. Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. 1981. I was only 15 & completely blown away - what a beautiful, perfect vocal. I'd never heard anything like it & even today it still sends shivers down my spine.
I had this on an album. My restaurant boss also owned a new and used record store in East Lansing (I bought the album from him), so my copy may have been from overseas. It's, of course, long gone now. Glad this amazing version is here. Thanks, geeflat.
This is an awesome performance but you guys should hear his modified version he did after leaving The Police live/solo which I did and then after he came back to reunite the group--simply an amazing and God-gifted artist of our current age!-Mikey ;-D (Also ty for the share Makenna*hugs*)
